this book is divided into three big chapters.
the first one is about holbach, the second about helvetius and the third about marx. it analyses the errors of the philosophies of the first two and shows how they were a product of their material conditions at this specific point in history. you can really see how plechanov applies the method of historical materialism.
but only in the chapter about marx does he really beginn to explain the method in a generalized way. therefore the first two chapters are a little bit harder to get through. but it all pays off in the end and the first two chapters are essential to understand the chapter abt marx to a full extent.
again great read! plechanov is rly underrated especially when it comes to historical materialism. he‘s called the father of russian marxism for a reason
