Julie, Selena & third-wheel Chet go on a werewolf-y date to a shady magic show. Something TERRIBLE happens, and for once it's not Mark or Lindi's fault!
Grace Ellis is a writer best known for co-creating and co-writing Lumberjanes, a New York Times bestselling, Eisner and GLAAD Award-winning comic, though you won't hear her brag about it unless you ask her directly. She has written several episodes of the animated series Bravest Warriors. Grace lives in Columbus, Ohio, where she co-parents a preternaturally smart cat, even though she's more of a dog person.
I've been eagerly counting down for the release of this second piece of Moonstruck the minute, nay, the second I finished reading (and reviewing) the introducing issue. So here's Chet with a pretty accurate visual of my reaction to beginning #2:
In their world full of monsters, mythological entities and fantastical creatures, this follow-up piece begs the question, “Is magic unnecessary in this world where we use magic all the time in our daily lives?” And ends on an unforeseeable note regarding our brilliant cast of characters. The creators of this comic sure know how to throw a curveball at me, I’ll give them that. Also, the story went by so fast. You start to get into it and just like that it's over.
Speaking of which, let's backtrack to the beginning of #2, where all this is set against a backdrop of, “werewolves Julie and Selena are heading out on a real, 3D date to a magic show (along with a peppy third-weel-slash-centaur-Chet)! There’s something not quite right about this magic show, though. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Will our heroes make it out in one piece? Who is this Dorian guy anyway?”
First things first: The fact that we get to accompany Julie and Selena (and Chet) on their magical first date set during a magic show was... enchanting. Which so are they together:
I got delivered pretty much everything I wanted in terms of a cute first date. I mean:
Swoon.
Also, I have to note how the art in here continues to amaze me in terms of fitting to the accompanying theme. The warm colors added immensely to the magical element.
I still don’t have the vocabulary to explain how it so great.
Chet is my icon who makes me want to take on the world, so I'm practically biting my nails to find out what's next in store for my favorites. But I was more than glad to see that the characters remained just as I'd remembered them in issue #1: With biting humor and acerbic wit.

Adorable. The art is so cute and the characters have such personalities! I'm guessing Julie is going to become more comfortable with her wolf side and become more confident through the series, so I'm looking forward to seeing that.
A great second issue of moonstruck, I'm glad they are hopping into mayhem right away! And oh, I just love Chet so much. And Selena?!?! WHAT A BABE!!! Also I have to give this 5 stars for all the wonderful & badass folks they interview at the end of each series. They have helped me expand my knowledge base of black & POC women and femme folk who write/design/etc etc comics! I super appreciate it!
IM SO IN LOVE WITH EVERY ASPECT OF THIS COMIC. The characters are very fleshed-out and relatable, the plot is fun and engaging, and the art is insanely cute. I need more IMMEDIATELY.
The plot is average. It's cute one time read. The illustrations and art style is amazing. I really enjoyed the color scheme as well. I'm reallyhoping for the plot to get better with the series. Selena and Julie definitely needs alot of working. Chet is my favourite and I love their friendship.
I have no idea where this is going or what it is, but I honestly don't care. I love the characters, world, and art. I'm in for the long haul, guys. I'm hooked.
the first issue was cute so i started with the second issue but unfortunately the story just lacks substance so i won’t be continuing this series. very cute though and i did love the colours
OMG! What a cute comic! I LOVED the WHOLE Series, with its beautifully illustrated pages and creative characterization. A plot that sends the reader in detective mode to dive deep in a mystery within. Grace writes imaginative and dynamic characters, which are apparent throughout. From beginning to the end, I was engaged and excited to revisit the next day. Will Julie save the day or hurt the ones close to her?
