Trigger Warning

Rate this book
*Re-released as Criminal Protection by Cora Clark. Edits and significant plot changes have been made. This edition is no longer in print.*

He told her to leave and never look back.

That's exactly what Brooke Clarke did. Her only possessions being the clothes on her back and an old Ford, she arrives in the city of Whitestead.

Hoping she can slowly build a new life for herself, she soon realises she's not out of danger. Without knowing what is really happening, and who is after her, Brooke gets pulled into an underground world of money, guns, drugs, and murder.

Desperate to reunite with the man who sent her away, her best friend and partner, Brooke finds herself sinking deeper and deeper into a life where you always have to watch your back, and never trust anyone.

Apart from maybe the man whose job is to protect her at all cost...

I was particularly struck by the intensity of the main character's relationships with the other characters - she is brave, flawed, vulnerable and strong all at once.

I was given a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I am giving this book four stars for its potential. There is a good cast of characters assembled and the story is fast-paced. However, the book could benefit from some tightening of the writing itself and for more detail to be given as to exactly why the heroine is in the situation she is.

The tale follows Brooke and her descent into the seedier side of life, where she tries drugs and gets involved in several violent altercations. She refers frequently to Luca but we never really find out too much about why a group of mysterious people is out to get him and why he is in such danger. She meets a love interest along the way, a plot line which could have also been developed a little more.

My four-star rating is due to the fact I didn't get bored with the story and I could see how it could be improved with the addition of depth and details.

I was asked to review this book and it was worth the read.

If you're into a light read (128 pages) and bang for your reading buck, M.M. Wedin's Trigger Warning is perfect.

I thoroughly enjoyed the fast-pace action and the cast of believable characters. I was particularly struck by the intensity of the main character's relationships with the other characters - she is brave, flawed, vulnerable and strong all at once.

The only bone of contention for me was that the book could have perhaps been a little longer.

If you're into suspenseful thrillers, Trigger Warning provides great twists.

What a great read. It reminded me of a book I read years ago. (Run baby Run - Nicky Cruz). There were times I wanted to hug Brooke (or rather rescue her) and times I wanted to shake her by the shoulders. Action-packed and fast paced. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Trigger Warning" is a very small step away from being completely dreadful.
M. M. Wedin tells a story, but that seems to be all she is capable of - there is no depth in the plotting or characters.
Naïve young woman on the run, for reasons she doesn't understand, is inducted into a criminal gang - she either takes part in their criminal acts or they kill her.
She opts for survival.
Her gang, the Streetwalkers, is engaged in battle with another, the Arrows.
It just goes downhill from there.
Avoid!

Lots of action, no filler.

A short, intense, multi-layered, violent, drug-fueled, gang-war story all wrapped up in a dysfunctional, personal relationship...

Will read more from this author. I received a free copy of the book from the author and I am thrilled to be able to give you my honest review.

Whitestead (city). After being awake for hours it dawned on Brooke Clarke she was still alive.
Lee let her finish the breakfast she ordered at The Blue Espresso.
He drove Brooke to her new 2-level apartment.
Lee (runner) left her an envelope with money, a new phone, Abigail “Abby” Reynolds driver’s license & keys.

Who/what are the Streetwalkers (Whitestead Syndicate)?
Abby arrived at the Mystie Club.
Raven (f) greeted her.
Lee informed her that the Arrows had taken over the Rerton Mountain base.
John (drug addict), Garett (drug addict), & Sam accompanied Abby to their destination.
Luca Sykes (Arrows, aka Aaron Smith) had left Abby a long time ago.
John & Brooke didn’t waste any time satisfying each other’s sexual desires.
Richard was gunned down.
Rerton Mountains gun factory (north Whitestead). Caden is the transport driver for everyone.
Gunshots & screams everywhere.

Warning: This book contains extremely graphic adult content, violence, or expletive language &/or uncensored sexually explicit material which is only suitable for mature readers. It may be offensive or have potential adverse psychological effects on the reader.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.

A very awesome book cover, & great font/writing style. A very well paranormal crime/thriller written book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great paranormal movie, or better yet a mini TV. Kind of cheesy at times, but I ended up liking it. That said I will still rate it at 5 stars.

Brooke is pushed away and told it is for her own safety, etc that she is to leave and never look back. Luca, Brooke's best friend and lover, wants her to run from the Arrows gang and him. However, Brook has nothing but the clothes on her back and her old Ford. Being hungry and homeless is weighing on her and so she finds herself working for the Streetwalkers gang and she is at their mercy. So is this where the saying 'out of the fire into the flame' comes in? This was a well written, exciting and violent book. I found it captivating and feeling like I was part of the story with the characters. Enjoy!

Previous title: Trigger Warning
Author: Cora Clark

Not my usual genre but well written and kept my interest, wondering what was going to happen next. Fairly graphic and violent. I read another review that mentioned "paranormal" but I didn't see any of that in my understanding of the book - only the effect of drugs.
I did feel a little more back story and detail would have helped - e.g. reasons why Brooke/Abby ended up in this situation, who the Arrows were etc.

The author pulls you into the lives of the characters so that you almost feel like you're in their heads. Brooke tries to run away when her boyfriend panics and tells her to live town immediately. She ends up being "rescued" by a rival gang and is forced to work for them. Is it possible for her to maintain her being herself or will this change her forever?

Criminal Protection is an interesting, quick read.

I have to admit this story isn't my favorite Cora Clark one, but it is well done none the less. I think it needs to be flushed out to make the characters a little more understandable. I find these characters cold, and self-centered, but maybe that was the goal. Obviously not my genre.

This story could be any young girl who runs away and falls into the wrong crowd. Brooke is running away from someone she doesn't even know their name and falls into the wrong crowd. Good emotional story. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book from Booksprout.
