#mystrangereading Unleashed: Being Conformed to the Image of Christ by Eric Mason ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I have followed Mason’s sermons and messages for many years now. He is an incredible speaker and is so knowledgeable. I loved this book, and how he walks through what spiritual practices we can adopt to grow in our faith. It is full of depth, truth and accountability which is why I love his guidance to be begin with. If you are a Christian and looking for guidance on how to grow your faith through spiritual practices, I highly recommend it.
Good and helpful book on the basics of sanctification. It is probably more helpful for younger, or newer believers. Nothing in here is shocking and incredibly unique, but it is all gospel centered and worthwhile.
Specifically speaking of unleashing the transformation offered to those who follow Christ by faith-of both justification and sanctification-we must not see our journey with Jesus beginning and ending with a past moment, but as a continuous journey began by God in the gospel, sustained by God in the Gospel and completed by God in the Gospel. God both begins and ends our journey. (Phil. 1:6) We don’t do any of the above, but we must be responsible with the journey that God has begun.
Unleashing is the work of sanctification of our Christian walk. Sanctification is pursuing holiness and the impact that it has on our daily life. What does that look like? What is my responsibility? What is God’s? Is it important? To that question is say an a resounding YES! Our sanctification is our life line. Sanctification is our faith growing and it is unleashing the power of God in our life. The end result is not my glory, but God’s.
Ten Chapters you will discover your growth in sanctification starting with the Gospel. The Holy Spirit, Faith and Repentance, The word of God, Prayer, the Strongholds that hinder growth, Marriage and the local church. Each chapter is rich with the discovery of the work of sanctification. Our sanctification brings us closer to God with a heart that worships.
Several chapters went into deep word study on submission and repentance. A great insight of repentance is that it edifies the work of God in a sinner’s life. That it takes faith to walk in repentance. Submission is the key faith and is a partnership of love and the greater good. Submission is a means of grace, not destruction. I loved that!
The author got personal with his struggle of strongholds listing the different strongholds that we all struggle with. Racism is a stronghold brought on by the cultural and how it continues even today. This is an important as it stunts our growth and ability to love others. It keeps us in bondage.
With clarity and the love of the Gospel, sanctification is a doctrine that should be embraced and celebrated. This study did that!
A Special Thank You to B&H Publishing Group and Netgalley for ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
The content was good, probably was better than the amount I absorbed. I wish I hadn’t listened to the audio book, as the rhetoric/style of reading was distracting me, partially because I’m just not used to it so I was thinking about it more than I was the content at times, but also because the author (who read the audio book) seemed to forget what came next at times, inserting “Um’s” and tripping up on words occasionally. The content was really good however, so I pushed through and finished the book and was grateful I did. I’d say a 4ish stars on the book, and a 2-3 stars on the audio.
In content, it’s fine. It doesn’t stick out much in the realm of Christian discipleship. It’s a broad stroke at much of discipleship rather than diving in deeper on any particular subject. It’s fine.
I did this one via Audible. Without exaggeration, it is the worst performance I’ve ever experienced. It took everything for me to finish. The random pauses at inappropriate times made the cadence of the reader impossible.
The book is probably 3.5 or 4 stars. The audio version drops it to a 3/5 total for me.
Very helpful book on sanctification and spiritual formation. Mase gives helpful tools and categories to help disciples grow in spiritual maturity. Foundational book for any christian.
A good book on unleashing the Holy Spirit influence in our lives. The author shows us practical ways that we can unleash His power daily, and he teaches in a way that anyone can understand.
This is a fantastic book on the topic of sanctification and spiritual growth for any believer. Mason addresses the biblical components to growing as a follower of Christ. And he does so in a way that is approachable and gospel-centered and encouraging. It will challenge you and help you in your journey to becoming more like Christ. It is a great reminder of the power of the Holy Spirit and the amazing grace of God to save and sustain.
(I received Unleashed from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.)
This was solid. I appreciated the centrality of community in sanctification. While it is essential for a Christian to practice spiritual disciplines such as bible study and prayer, Dr. Mason does an outstanding job of teaching how much of our sanctification comes through relationships such as marriage and in the church. I also really appreciated the chapter on how suffering sanctifies believers. This was very practical and helpful.
