56 books86 followersRadu Pavel Gheo (RADU Pavel Gheorghiţă, born in 3rd of October 1969 in Oraviţa, Romania) is a Romanian writer and translator from English. In 2017 his most recent novel, Disco Titanic, was awarded "Observator Cultural" Prize for Fiction.
His previous novel, Noapte bună, copii! (Good Night, Children!), was granted the National Fiction Award “Ziarul de Iasi”, Romanian Writers’ Association (Timisoara) Award, 2010 Best Romanian Novel in 2010 – title granted by the cultural magazine "Tiuk!", and „Eminescu-1868-Oravita” Award. The book appeared in Italian translation in 2016.
The Romanian author belongs to the post-revolutionary generation of writers. In 2001, as a result of his winning at the American Visa Lottery, he left for the U.S.A., where he lived for a year together with his wife. He worked at a fast food, a food store, and a Barnes & Noble bookstore, and he described his American experience in a book published in the aftermath of his return. The book, entitled Adio, adio, patria mea cu î din i, cu â din a (approx. Farewell, My Homeland, Farewell...) became a bestseller, it sold out and was soon reprinted. The same thing happened to most of his following books.
Radu Pavel Gheo has published so far eleven personal volumes of fiction and essays. He also wrote a play entitled Hold-УП Akbar sau Toţi în America (Hold-УП Akbar or Everybody in America). The play was put on stage by the National Theatre from Timişoara starting with July 2007.
His novel Noapte bună, copii! was published in Italian (Buona notte, bambini!, La Zisa, Palermo, 2016) and Spanish (Dulces sueños, queridos niños, Tres Hermanas, Madrid, 2020).
Another novel, DIsco Titanic (2016), appeared in Serbian translation in 2021 (Disko Titanik, Partizanska knjiga, Kikinda).
Radu Pavel Gheo is included in an Irish anthology of fiction (Sharp Sticks, Driven Nails, The Stinging Fly Publishing House, Dublin, 2010), and in a Croatian anthology of short stories (Nabokov u Brašovu. Antologija rumunjske postrevolucionarne kratke priče, Meandar Publishing House, Zagreb, 2010). The book coordinated by Radu Pavel Gheo and Dan Lungu, Tovarăşe de drum. Experienţa feminină în comunism (Fellow Travellers. The Feminine Experience in Communism), appeared in Italian translation in 2011 at Sandro Teti Editore from Rome.
Radu Pavel Gheo is a member of the Writers Union of Romania since 2003 and of PEN Club Romania since 2005. He is also a founding member of the cultural association Club 8 from Iaşi.

Am ratat cumva cartea asta la prima apariție, dar reeditarea a venit la timp. Un basm frumos, care îți trezește din nou la viață imaginația copilului fără griji, pe care, odată cu responsabilitățile, o îngropi undeva departe.
Basmul lui Radu Pavel Gheo începe ca un film SF, dintr-o perioadă post-apocaliptică, pentru a se transforma apoi într-un roman de aventuri, de explorare a unei lumi necunoscute, locuită de oameni, dar și de personaje de poveste: centauri, zâne, vrăjitoare, pitici sau ființe nemaivăzute.

O călătorie luuuungă

O lectura usoara, placuta si facila, ,,Fairia- o lume indepartata" are personaje pitoresti, o proza incantatoare si un final induiosator si emotionant. Un amestec de genuri, simboluri si idei, fiind SF, fantasy, basm modern, literatura suprarealista cu elemente mitologice si folclorice, intesata cu cugetari profunde cu privire la iluzia realitatii, este o carte care chiar merita incercata.

Foarte mult mi-a placut sa citesc despre trimiterile din Fairia la mayuma. Eu n-am prins decit citeva, din gramajoara de culthura ce-am adunat-o pina acum.

Foarte frumoasa Fairia, nicio fortare, dialogul curge lin, pacat ca n-am avut eu mai mult timp si chef de ea, ca ea n-are nicio vina. Personajele sint in linii mari simple dar dragute si actiunea e interesanta, cu schimbari de cadru foarte dese si intorsaturi.
E simpla Fairia, nici nu stiu ce sa zic, pentru o carte asa de simpla, are atmosfera proprie si imprumuturile din literatura nu-i strica din originalitate. Elementele din basme si sf-uri fac un blend frumos.
