Travis After the accident, the chief was pushing me to retire. Being a firefighter was all I had ever wanted, what I lived for. Well, other than my 12 year old daughter Abby. Raising her as a single dad, much less a busy firefighter, wasn't easy, but life never is. Then a call came in from an all too familiar area code. I was being beckoned back to my hometown, back to Canon. I had left that small town years ago, leaving behind a lot, including... her.
Sophie I never intended to stay in my hometown of Canon. But after college and losing Travis to the big city, I kinda just ended up back here. My time was spent either teaching at school or reading at home. Both of which contributed to the "spinster" rumors going around. But my ho-hum existence was suddenly ignited. A girl with fiery red hair and his emerald eyes showed up at the Homestead, his Mom's restaurant. Was he back? Was Travis in Canon?
Burnt is a steamy, full length, single dad, small town romance with a guaranteed HEA!
I love the Single dad romance genre so I was eager to listen to Burnt by new to me author Lacy Hart and narrators Juliana Solo and Daniel James Lewis. Add in the fact that it was a second chance at love story and I was ready to dive in.
This was a sweet romance that burned very slowly. In fact it took 14 years to burst into flames. Travis and Sophie were an item in college, that was before he decided to leave and pursue a career as a fire fighter.
Fast forward 14 years and now Travis is the father to a 12 year old daughter, he was recently injured in a horrific fire that claimed the life of his best friend. He has struggled to overcome the injuries he sustained and has been fighting against forced retirement from the job he loved.
When a phone call him back, they return to his hometown. Imagine his shock when he finds out that Sophie returned home all those years ago. She is now a teacher at the local middle school.
Neither Travis or Sophie have ever asked after one another for fear of learning that they had moved on. Sophie is a 32 year old who never got over losing her first love. When she realises that Travis has returned she sets out to re connect with him, to see if the sparks are still there.
I enjoyed the story and will be looking for more from this author.
The narration by Juliana Solo and Daniel James Lewis is good, although I didn’t get as much of an emotional connection from the male narrator as I did the female.
I'm all for second chance, reunited type of love stories, and who doesn't love a single dad finding his true love type story.
But come on! what was the point of this book? and I've got many problems with this book: 1. The Hero keeps calling himself disable? really? it don't fit with his characteristic.
2. Sophie is a Virgin waiting for her true love to com back?
3. The instant let's just back in a relationship
4. The whole 'Dad' story! like in so many years no one knew? no rumours? in a chic a small place?
Yeah my list goes on but that sums it up. However the authors writing is good, I just hope her story lines improve.
Burnt by Lacy Hart is a 2nd chance romance featuring a schoolteacher and a firefighter. Can you imagine waiting fourteen years to re-unite with the love of your life? Well, this is exactly what happened with Sophie and Travis.
Sophie and Travis dated in college and everything was going well until the moment Travis decided he wanted to quit school and pursue his dreams of becoming a firefighter. Unfortunately, his plans differed from the one Sophie’s mom had for. her, which led to their separation. Fourteen years later Sophie is 8th grade teacher at Cannon middle school living a life void of dating and steeped in memories of the man she allowed to get away. Meanwhile, Travis is in the big city and raising his twelve-year-old daughter living his dream until an accident forced him into early retirement. He had no idea what his next move would be, but an unexpected phone call will lead to him returning to his home in Cannon where he reconnects with his past and reunite with the woman he left behind fourteen years ago.
Narrated from alternate POVs the story gave me a bird's-eye view into the minds of the character. I am not too sure what to make of Sophie. First, she chooses her career over love, and then spent the next fourteen years single and lonely. Then when the opportunity came for her to reclaim what she gave up, she was willing to leave it to chance. I would have expected her to be quick to cease this moment.
I admired Travis’s dedication to raising his daughter. The authenticity of his struggles made it easy to connect with him. Faced with the prospect of changing careers, dealing with work-related injury and single handily raising his daughter could not have been easy but he did so, anyway.
The story took a while for me to get into because of its slow pacing. It was not until around the 65% mark I saw Travis and Sophie rekindle their romance. Regrettably, I did not buy into the romance. Separated for fourteen years with no contact, yet within days after reconnecting they were all over each other. It was as if they were separated for months instead of years.
Narration I have mixed feelings regarding the narration. Juliana Solo and Daniel James Lewis narrated Burnt. As I am new to the audiobook world, I am not familiar with their work. I had expected Juliana to perform each of the female parts and Daniel the male voices. However, that was not the case. As the story was narrated from both characters POV depending on, which character is, speaking at the time the narrator representing that person will perform all the voices in that scenario be it male or female.
I enjoyed listening to the female character. I thought she did a good job, capturing the voices. She made it easy to distinguish between the voices and she captured their expressions and emotions perfectly. The male narrator did nothing for me. His narration sounded flat and had some difficulty separating his male and female voices. Unlike his female counterpart, he failed to capture the expressions and emotions of the characters.
Conclusion/Recommendation I was expecting drama angst due to their history, but the story did not deliver on this front. It would have been great if the author had included an epilogue providing details of the main characters' lives after their reunion. Despite this I found the story to be okay and I would read more from this author.
Travis is a firefighter that after an accident he was being pushed to retire by the fire chief. Travis is also a single dad of Abby who is 12 years old. Sophie and Travis used to be an item, but life sent them their separate ways. But when Travis returns to Canon, Sophie began to wonder if she might get BURNT.
This is a good single parent, second chance story. I really enjoyed listening to it. Juliana Solo and @Daniel James Lewis did a great job of bringing this book to life for me. I enjoyed it!
High school acquaintances then college sweethearts Sophie and Travis lost contact 14 years ago. His firefighting career is over and he returns to his hometown where is mother runs a restaurant. His dad (divorced from mom) died and he has to deal with some estate business (they did not have a good relationship and he avoided the town but kept up with his mom). He has his 12 year old daughter in tow as well. It was very slow though I was interested in their story and how they wound up where they were. He's no alpha but he's sweet and so is she.
This book had me at single dad romance. I love listening to stories where the single dad finds his happiness. There is something about a man with his child that makes the story more human. Travis is a firefighter, hurt on the job and returns to his hometown to settle his estranged father's estate. He drops his 12 year old daughter with his mom and when she sends him a selfie, he sees his old girlfriend, Sophie in the background. Little does he know that Sophie has been "waiting" for him all these years. This is a sweet story, the virgin woman who just could not find the man of her dreams since she had already found him and the man who comes back with the same thoughts. I really liked Travis, I found his character very real as he is dealing with his injury, the possibility of having to change careers, raising his daughter and getting his life together. Sophie is relatable, the spinster type of woman who just does not get out of her own way to find her happiness and in this case it works out for her when Travis comes back into town. I love her friend who dresses her, she keeps Sophie fresh and up to date. It's a fun and easy listen, and my first by Lacy Hart, so I will be looking for more by her!
The narration by Juliana Solo and Daniel James Lewis is very good. They give the different points of view a good pace and the voices are easy to distinguish. I enjoyed both of their performances.
Travis and Sophie grew up in the same small town and noticed each other even when they were young. But it wasn't until they ran into each other freshman year at the college that they started dating. Travis decides that college isn't for him, and Sophie doesn't want to leave school, so she lets him go. Fourteen years later Travis is back in Cannon, where he grew up. Only he's not alone, his 12 year old daughter Abby, is with him. Sophie moved back to Cannon after college and now she's the 8th grade English teacher. She noticed the cute red headed young girl, Abby, and instantly recognizes those green eyes as Travis'. Travis never really got over Sophie and one look reminds him of what he lost.
This book was kind of slow to get started and then everything seemed to come to a point super fast. I would have enjoyed more of an epilogue with more of what took place in the future. I listened to the audio of this story, which was narrated by Juliana Solo and Daniel James Lewis, they both did an okay job.
***I accepted to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review from a Scarlet Lantern Publishing. It does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.****
Audio Review Travis is back In his hometown to settle his estranged fathers estate and this could be the break he needs after getting hurt on his job as a firefighter he needs to re-evaluate the life he has with his 12 year old daughter maybe a move home to be closer to his mum is just what he needs but will that change when he realises the girl that broke his heart is still in town...... Sophie choose her education and career over Travis 12 years ago but that doesn’t mean she ever stopped loving him in fact she has spent her life waiting for him to come back home. Will Travis give her a second chance or will he be the one to walk away this time .......... Mention a single dad and I’m the first in line to read or in this case listen add in second chance romance and that’s a win win for me but this had an added bonus because Lacy Hart is a new author to me and as I’m relatively new to audio the narrators Juliano Solo and Daniel James Lewis were also new but after listening to Burnt I will be checking out more from the author and the narrators. This sweet romance was well written and narrated.
Audio review. This story is a second chance romance. First I heard from the author. Narrator are. Male : Daniel James Lewis , female. Julianna Solo This is my first listen to the author and the narrators.
Hero is Travis. Heroine is Sophie. Travis is a single dad. Sophie is a school teacher
Travis had a tragic accident when as a firefighter one night he was saving a mother and her young daughter. Travis had no choice but to go on disability. One day he gets a call from his fathers lawyer . His father passed and Travis had to go back to Cannon to clear things up
Sophie is still living in Cannon as a school teacher. Sophie is living a boring like. No dates for three yrs. Drinking lemonade during dinner out. Sophie always thinking of Travis . They were high school sweethearts but something tore them apart. Once Travis goes back to cannon will he get back with Sophie
Firefighter, and single dad, Travis Stone, is back in his hometown after learning of his dad’s passing. This is just the break that Travis needs for himself and 12 yo daughter while he recovers from a possible career ending injury. What will Travis do when he sees his 1st love again, for the 1st time in 12yrs? After all, she broke his heart and was the main reason that he’s stayed away until now. Sophie has always lived Travis, even though she chose her education and career over him 12 yrs ago. Now that Travis is back to settle his dad’s affairs, will she have that second chance? This is a sweet story with no angst, some regrets, but overall filled with supportive family and friends. Well written and narrated. I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.
Sophie was still a virgin at 32 because no one ever measured up to her first crush Travis. He dropped out of college to go to the city and pursue his dream of being a firefighter. He asked her to go with him but she stayed behind and finished college and began her teaching career. He's raising a 12 year daughter on his own and his chief wants him to retire because of an injury. He decides to go back home and he runs into Sophie at his mother's diner. The attraction and chemistry is still there and it's a sweet journey watching them learn to love each other again. A great read with good characters and a great storyline. I received an advance copy via Exclusive Arc and voluntarily chose to write a review.
Burnt is a sweet single dad, second chance, small town romance. I listened to the audible version of this novel. The narrators Juliana Solo, Daniel James Lewis did a good job with the narration. Their voices blended well together and they brought the characters to life. I enjoyed listening to them. That being said the story itself fell a bit flat at certain times. There were a couple steamy scenes and a slight hint of a mystery that was soon resolved. I did not really like Sophie as she felt a bit immature to me but I did like Travis and his dedication to his daughter. However I did not really feel the connection between these two as a couple. If you are looking for a story with no angst or drama, this is the one for you. #AudiobookObsessionReviewer
By: Lacy Hart Narrated by: Juliana Solo, Daniel James Lewis
This is an enjoyable, well written, well told story. The characters are well developed and very likable. The story moves quickly and grabs you from the the very start all the way to the end. A nice and sweet second chance romance. Thank you Lacy Hart for a great read. Looking forward to reading more of you work.
I listened to the Audible edition. The narrators, Juliana Solo & Daniel James Lewis, were awesome, they performed well together and brought each character to life from the pages to your ears. Thank you for the great listen!
I listened to the audiobook version of this book. The narrators did a good job of bringing this story to life. But this book didn't really do it for me. For me, the author spent a lot of time going into unnecessary details which caused me to get a little bored with the story. An example is the amount of detail the author went into when Travis drove to Sophie's house for their first date and got out of the car to go to the passenger side of the car to get the wine and flowers he bought for her. I also didn't feel very invested or connected in the characters' story. Overall, this story is a sweet, low angst read. It was an enjoyable, but relatively unmemorable read for me.
I decided to listen to this audiobook after reading the blurb and listening to the audio sample but even so I liked what I read and heard the execution of the story was only average. I found Sophie too pathetic and Travis too ignorant to my liking. The writing was also just mediocre. Regretfully I can only give the story 3 stars.
Juliana Solo did a solid job with the female narration. Unfortunately I can't say the same for the male narration. It seemed too clinical, almost sterile, emotionless for me. I'm sure Daniel James Lewis is a good narrator only this book wasn't for him, or his style wasn't for me.
This is a really great small town second chance romance. I loved the story. It is short sweet and too the point. The characters were lovely! Mary who is the bf of was a great secondary character. As for Travis and Sophie I could completely feel their connection! When they first meet and just stand basically staring at each other not even realizing they aren’t talking. Awesome!
I did listen to this on audio. The narrators did a wonderful job being articulate and doing all the different voices. This is a first time author for me. Her story moved right along and I loved that I could feel for the characters. I would read her again.
This was my first Lacy Hart's book. This was a sweet a Single Dad, Small Town and second chance to love story, all in one! I loved the story and I was hooked from the start to finish. There were some twists and turns, with no drama added, just a lot of love and understanding! I liked it! Travis is really a great and handsome man. Travis and Sophie are great together. I love their HEA. The narration was well done. I enjoyed my listening. I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
Burnt was a very heartwarming second chance romance. Travis is recovering from an injury from his firefighting job. He is forced to go back to his hometown after his father passes away. He takes his 12 yr old daughter with him. Sophie was Travis' girlfriend in high school & college. Imagine both of their surprises when Travis shows back up in Canon after all this time. I could feel the emotions & love that they both have for each other. Travis also has to decide what he wants in life for his daughter & him after his injury. Can he make Canon his home? Great story with good narration.
Burnt, is an enjoyable single dad slow burn romance and is my first read by Lacy Hart. Its narrated by Juliana Solo and Daniel James Lewis.
Travis is a firefighter and single dad to a 12 year old daughter, when a phone call forces Travis to return to his home town of Cannon he soon finds himself face to face with his old love. Sophie is a school teacher in Cannon, 14 years ago she said goodbye to the love of her life, she's never moved on and now he's back.
Is this their second chance at love?
Although I did enjoy listening to this story I did find it difficult to feel as much of a connection to the male narrator as I did with the female narrator. This been said I would definitely listen to more books by Lacy Hart in the future.
Burnt: A Single Dad Small Town Romance was a great read by Lacy Hart. All Travis ever wanted was to be a firefighter. Now he finds himself being pushed to retire by his chief after an accident. It isn't easy to raise his 12 year old daughter as a single father, especially as a busy firefighter. He finds himself being beckoned back to his home small home town he left years ago. Sophie never intended to stay in her hometown but ended back there after losing Travis years ago. I really enjoyed reading Sophie and Travis' story and can't wait to read more by the author.
Your father is abusive to you and your mother, forces your mother to buy him a house in exchange for the divorce she deserves after he cheats on her with a waitress at her restaurant...you go back and give said backstabbing, home wrecking waitress your entire monetary inheritance instead of to your devoted mother or even your own daughter that your cheating, drunk father couldn't be bothered to visit...if I were Sophie's friend, I'd advise her not to marry this idiot. Not a HEA to me.

I know I say this a thousand times but I really enjoyed reading this book about a second chance at love. Travis and Sophie were amazing together you could tell their love for another never left they basically started over from where they left off when they were teenagers in college. There were not hard feelings, no hate between them, they just went in different paths and those paths led them back together.
A so-so story. The writing and plot are very straightforward, no complexity to either main character, next to no drama or angst in the relationship, and a heroine who occasionally acts more like an adolescent than an adult. If you want to read a really sweet romance where every character ends up sweet and considerate, then you’ll probably like this book. I prefer more complexity in the books I read and enjoy.
An adorable read about getting a second chance at finding true love. Travis and Sophie were once in love, but responsibility and college made them drift apart. But now with Travis coming back home after being injured on the job, can the two reunite and find love again? With a heartwarming storyline and great characters this was a great read.
I’m giving this book 3 stars because it didn’t have a good enough ending. This ending should have been longer , the author should have written more and let us know if they actually got there happy end . To me it just cut off and leaves you suspense about what happens .
Over all it was a good book , well written, good story line . It was a cute little love story .
I loved this story. Single hot dad. Small town feel. I loved how after so many years Travis and Sophie were able to pick right up and have a HFN ending to their love story. Some mysteries are solved for Travis that keep everything intriguing and keeps you listening on. Recommend.
Travis has spent the last few years taking care of his daughter. He comes back to his hometown after his father's death. He reconnect with Sophie. Their love rekindles. This is a sweet love story. I like the characters and the small town they like in. I hope you like this story as much as I did.
a 32-year-old virgin, a 12-year-old daughter who was not an angsty preteen, a man who was a firefighter and lost his partner and had no PTSD at all. sigh.. I was bored. but its probably just me. You might really like this story.
2nd chance romance that took the majority of the book to get started. Travis hurt in the job goes back home and sees his ex of over ten years. They hook up he finds out he has a sister and everyone is so happy all the time.
