Well now I have a right to rate this because I did finish it.
I very well know you never stop grieving someone no matter how many years had gone by however this does not give the right to anyone to treat everyone like they are beneath them.
This zero has no redemption in my eyes, he treated the heroine horrible, he used her for sex because he was still very much in love with his dead pregnant fiance, while the heroine was saying that they were making love he plain told her he needed her for sex, sorry to burst her bubble but he used her and she let him.
The only good thing about the book was Nora.

He will never change, he will treat her like this all the time, did the heroine put him in his place? Well she did but when he let used her like a sex toy I lost all the respect for her.

OK... I am in agreeing with many readers here. Carter Grayson is very emotional read. The wording cn be edited better, but Miss Lynn captured all the necessary feels for the book. The story has a little bit of Sixth Sense but less scary and mix it with a healthy dose of romance. It has been a while since I read Miss Lynn's book.

Carter is a total jerk. He is so into his own pain that he shuts everyone around him. Despite with so many sorry he said to Zoey, I think he needs more groveling to do. The story is relatively short. Only about 6 hours of audio book. Not enough for dramatic or proper groveling.
Zoey is such a sweetheart. She is kind and loyal. She does not give up on Carter and I am glad she did.

Overall this is a wonderful read.

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” ~ Maria Robinson

Very beautiful and touching life story.
I wasn’t a fan of a love storyline – sorry, but I couldn’t connect to the hero till the end (tortured past doesn't give a person right to treat the others with disrespect!) – but the heroine was amazing and the human message of the book was deep.

“Memories are only bad because of the pain we let ourselves consume…
…Memories are a treasure and they were made with love. That’s what you need to remember. Embrace the memories here. Feel the good times and the love and remember what it’s like to live again.”

I´ve read all of the books written by sandi Lynn because she´s one of my favourite writers, but... this book.. I didn't like it. I mean, the plot is nice and everything but the male character, Carter, was soooo mean and disrespecful that I couldn´t connect with him. Nothing, absolutly nothing gives you the right to treat a person like shit, I mean if something horrible happened to you, it should not be used as a excuse to treat the rest as if they were worthless, and almost the entire book Carter was a complete asshole to Zoey. I can´t even understand why Zoey would put up with him. Sorry but this time this book wasn´t for me at all. But I still love Sandi so I really hope she will give us more of her amazing books.

The hero uses as an excuse the loss of loved ones to be a BIG asshole.
He verbally abuses our heroine at all times and drowns his problems in alcohol.
I could not sympathize with him.
And we have our heroine seeing dead people and talking to them. Even the hero's ex.
I did not like it. It did not work for me.
--------
Then, Carter met Angelique and she was the love of his life. A couple years later, she got pregnant and he proposed. They were going to wait until after the baby was born to get married. She was at a crosswalk waiting to cross the street, and when the signal turned for her, she started walking and a drunk driver came flying around the corner and hit her.

“Because Zoey is the hired help. We don’t need to have her family over to the house.” “Wow, Carter.” Nora looked at him in disgust.

He brought Angelique here to propose to her on this very beach just as the sun was setting. I’ll never forget that night he called me and told me she said yes. He was so excited.”

“I need sex, Zoey,” he whispered as he broke our kiss. “I need it desperately.” “Okay,” I softly spoke. “It means absolutely nothing. I need you to understand that.”

“I’ve never not used one since Angelique, and I don’t know why I didn’t this time.”

“I’m going to head back to bed. I think it would be a good idea if you slept in your room.”

Believing in the afterlife isn't the problem for me -- but the way this book was written certainly was. The premise was fairytale from start to finish, the sentence structure was mechanical without much feeling or emotional content provided and I couldn't relate to Carter and his behavior, nor could I get onboard with how everything surrounding Zoey and Carter was like Disneyland on steroids for the rich and famous. Yes, they both endured great loss -- that's an everyday occurrence for people in this world. People suffer their losses in different ways. But Carter and Zoey's happy-ever-after was just too richly rewarded and the romance was over-the-top unrealistic. Definitely a stretch and I wasn't prepared for the paranormal element involved either.

Simply the best

Omg what another amazing book by Sandi. This book was absolutely stunning it made me cry from start to finish.

Carter Grayson is a billionaire and runs his own company. He has a younger sister Nora who is terminally ill with cancer of the brain. One day while in Starbucks Carter is distributed by two girls laughing and tells them to be quiet and have respect for other people but they just laughed.

Zoey Benson is a care nurse and has a gift towards people who are dying. Zoey is holding a secret that only a few people know. When Zoey was five years old she lost her parents but her path crossed with a firefighter called Scott and he brought her to the hospital the doctor on shift that night was John and they both knew her story.

Twenty years later Zoey was adopted by a gay couple witch was John an Scott. As Zoey was out of work Carter's business partner gave him a number for a carer for his sister.

Little did he know that it was the same person he told off in Starbucks. Carter was very abrupt when he first met Zoey. He was a cold hearted, always in a bad mood, always drank to kill the pain he was suffering.

Zoey took no crap from Carter. In a few short weeks Nora's health went downhill very quick. Nora made her will with some instructions after she was gone.
Carter and Zoey went on a road trip as per Nora's wishes as she was cremated she got them to spread her ashes in certain places. Carter felt a connection between him and Zoey but couldn't think where. No matter what they said to each other it involved breaking of hearts with harsh words.

I would love to tell more of the book but I don't want to ruin for anyone wanting to read it. Sandi h as outdone herself again with her magnificent stories.

This came recommended as a friend thought I would love those grieving widower trope. But nope, just couldn't get into this. The writing was short and stilted. Just didn't flow well to me. And I found the hero your usual gruff asshole who takes his pain out on the heroine. And she just rolls over and take his shit. I literally cannot take any more of these weak heroines. Just terrible, I cannot even go into depth like my usual review. Just glad I got to the end.

Honestly, this might have rated a little higher, but immediately following I read another book that I feel like was kind of similar in theme and it just blew it out of the park.

Carter has experienced tragedy after tragedy and is currently living through another as his sister is dying of cancer. He is suffering greatly but his outer shell has made him a ruthless a**hole to just about everyone. Zoey is practically destined to be a hospice nurse to help people in their last moments and her next role is to help with Carter's sister. After her death, she leaves very specific instructions on how to scatter her ashes and insists that Carter and Zoey must do this together. A love story ensues.

So there are two things. A - I just really didn't buy into Zoey and Carter. I couldn't connect to their story or really believe they were compatible. B - There is almost a supernatural element to this story that is very pivotal to the love between Zoey and Carter. I think it's one of those things that you will either love or hate. And I just couldn't get into it.

It had the potential but was a miss for me.

I love this author but it is not the best book Sandi lynn has written 🙈 Carter Grayson is just a horrible guy he treats Zoey like crap! And she seems like such a strong heroin but she’s not she lets him treat her poorly then starts sleeping with him there’s no romantic connection build up one minute he’s shouting at her then he kisses her and they have sex then he rolls off goes on the couch I wanted to scream tell him to do one lol I wanted her to not kiss him back make him treat her the way she should be, just because he’s grieving gives him no right to treat anyone like that, not for a second he was nice to her constant bashing.

And then we find out she sees dead people this is too far fetched for me it’s not my type of story

However, I love Sandi lynn stories usually the forever series is one of my favourite series of all times

[1 star] dont really like this book. carter is an asshole and zoey is a doormat that allows asshole carter to walk over her and she happily allows it. he ask for sex, she simply just agreed, like seriously??!! i mean author wrote out that carter keep apologizing but still go back to his own ways of hurting zoey, then why zoey feel like she is ok with it? doesn't make sense at all. also the 1st 3/4 is sort of slow but after zoey & carter got together, the story become super fast-paced, overall the book is just crap.

Great story!!

This is the first book in a new series and what an intriguing journey this story is!
This is Carter and Zoey's story. This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster journey, with family, friendships, challenges, loss, grief, heartbreak, healing, making choices, tension, compassion, surprises, acceptance, and love which all leads to an entertaining and addictive page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend

Better than I expected.. I liked the paranormal element, even if it wasn't very original or meshed out. The grovel was good, BUT... when the H continues to be a douche after said grovel it kinda negates the grovel... KWIM?
This author is a very steady 3-star read in my book, but this one was soooo close to reaching that 4th star.. Unfortunately, the H ultimately annoyed me one too many times and I had to go back to the typical "3-star Sandi Lynn" review.

Disappointed

This book is written quite badly. It's as if it was written by a robot. The scructure and dialogues are so stiff and repetitive.

I don't mind when people believe in ghosts but the author made it seem like after death people become almost God-like with powers to actually manipulate the universe and living people. That was just ridiculous and quite cringey to be honest.
Actually, the last part of the book was all cringe. In one minute he's an asshole, in the next he's declaring his love, proposing and buying mansions. How? When? And most importantly what the heck?
Oh yeah but it's so honorable that she wants to make her own money... Because you have to remember that she is an independent woman...

I really thought I would enjoy this book because I have enjoyed all of Sandi Lynn books. I just didn’t get Carson I know that he lost important members of his family, but that doesn’t give him the right to be so disrespectful to Zoey. She trying to help him and he was being a pig about it. He knew that Zoey had feelings for him and he just kept on sleeping with her anyway all because he wanted to get his rocks off. The only person he wanted was his dead fiancée and baby. Zoey should of just let him drown in his whiskey and self pity.

Another fantastic book by Sandi Lynn. I couldn't put Carter Grayson down and I devoured it in one day! Carter Grayson is very touching, emotional and well written enemies to lovers story. It's also a beautiful story about love, loss, strength and perseverance. I absolutely adored Zoey and I loved her special gift. She definitely made Carter a better person (who was a bit of a jerk). I highly recommend this book.

I don’t want my review/rating to deter anyone from reading this book. I just think that based on what I’ve read it was nothing amazing.

It was honestly strange. That’s the best word I can think of.

Carter is a miserable asshole, who has experienced a lot of loss in his life, Zoey is a hospice nurse with a secret who enters carters life in a weird sort of fate.

The book felt very choppy, and there were so many times that a chapter would end to pick up right away under a different perspective but for a new chapter. I didn’t enjoy that.

Zoeys gift was kind of random and made this book feel a bit more make believe/fantasy
But also strangely religious? The whole god and heaven thing felt unnecessary and like it could have been avoided by just saying afterlife.

Anyways, I think I didn’t hate this because the concept of their relationship and the story line was very interesting and unique.

And for the people who are saying Carter is abusive… that feels like a stretch, he’s an asshole but Zoey constantly calls him out and isn’t some meek thing who just takes it. She recognizes he’s a victim of circumstance who has chosen to be an asshole. She stays because she wants to help him hot because he’s manipulating her to stay? So no he isn’t abusive, he’s just a dick.

Anyways, interesting read idk if I’d recommend maybe I would just so others can experience this strangeness with me.

Edit:
The way grief was handled and discussed was very lovely.

TLDR:
Cool story/idea, poor execution
Carter’s a dick but not abusive
Weird choppy chapters
Weird god and heaven/hell complex

Polecam.

Loved!

This book blew my mind away. I definitely recommend reading this.

When Zoey Anderson was 5 years old, she was the only living survivor in a plane crash that killed her parents. She was adopted by the fireman and the ER doctor who treated her. Her new Dads knew that she was special. Zoey died and was sent back to earth to help others move on.

Twenty years later, Zoey is one of the best hospice nurses around. She helps the sick move on peacefully and tries to help their families deal with death. When she gets hired by Nora Grayson, sister of billionaire, Carter Grayson, Zoey has her work cut out for her.

Carter has lost everyone he's ever cared about. His mother died of cancer and his father couldn't deal with his grief and took his own life; leaving Carter in charge. When his sister's cancer comes back he's had enough. Five years ago he lost his fiance and unborn baby in a drunk driving accident. His soul is so dark, Zoey has problems getting through.

When Nora dies, she has both Carter and Zoey go on a road trip to spread her ashes. But even Zoey has her limits on just how much verbal abuse she'll take from the arrogant man.

What will it take to get him to open up his eyes and start living again?

A must read!

I was so moved by this story. Love and tears!

Zoey is an amazing young woman with an incredible past. She is 25 years old and works as a hospice nurse. She meets Carter after a difficult run in with him at Starbucks. Now he needs her skills for his sister Nora who is dying from brain cancer. Nora sees something special in Zoey and will not let her Grump of a brother fire her.

Zoey is comfortable enough to let Nora know her truth, and they work together during this difficult time with hopes of removing the darkness from within Carter's heart.

Carter lost both parents, as well as his wife Angelique who was pregnant when she passed, and now his sister. He is so angry. He believes there cannot be a God who would do all of this to him. So all he has now is anger and hurt. But there is something light around Zoey and he hates it.

Nora wants Zoey to help Carter. And even in the afterlife she does her best to push them together,.

Wow! Sandi Lynn you absolutely nailed this story. One if the most heart felt stories that I have ever read! I honestly cried at several parts. Thank you for touching my heart with this story. Put on your must read pile now! Enjoy
