That’s all it took for Sam “Midnight” Montgomery to find himself discharged, stateside, and struggling to fit into civilian life. So, when Hank Peterson threw him a Hail Mary in the form of a job working for Brotherhood Protectors, Sam stepped up. Shifted his focus from protecting his country to protecting souls in dangerous situations. A role he’d excelled in until his latest mission became Bridgette Hayward—a feisty assistant US Attorney and the reason Sam joined the Army Rangers all those years ago.
She doesn’t want his protection. He gets it. Bridgette is smart, confident and determined to take care of her stalker on her own, while making his job—and his life—as difficult as possible. Not a problem. Sam’s accustomed to adversity. He’s faced worse and survived, so, if Bridgette needs to go a few rounds before being able to move forward, he can take whatever she dishes out. Especially, if it means moving forward together.
He thought he’d successfully buried his feelings for her in the Afghanistan desert, but he’d only been fooling himself. Though, he’s discovering it was easier to infiltrate enemy fortresses than charm her back into his bed. Thankfully, he doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit—not with his heart and her life on the line.
He has until the trial begins to make his move without compromising her safety, or risk losing his last shot at a second chance.
This book is a Kindle Worlds wonderful addition to the Brotherhood Protector series by Elle James. Sam “Midnight” Montgomery is a former Army Ranger and due to a tragic incident, that injured him and took the life of his best friend, he is now out of the military and has signed on with Hank Peterson and the Brotherhood Protectors. Sam has been hired to protect Bridgette Hayward, a U.S. Attorney, who he feels has been threatened due to her upcoming prosecution of a drug cartel. Bridgette and Sam have a history prior to his assignment to protect her and she is not willing to give an inch and does not feel that she needs his protection…she can take care of herself. I so enjoy a book with a strong female character who knows her strengths and holds her own with the alpha male. The story is full of tension and the back and forth interaction between Bridgette and Sam keeps you turning the pages. I found myself planning to just read to the end of the current chapter…well, maybe one more chapter, well, etc. I had not read any of Ms. Norris’ previous books, but I loved her writing style and have added her to my “watch for” list. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to give an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Still haunted by the death of his friend on his last op, recently discharged Sam ‘Midnight’ Montgomery’s assignment with the Brotherhood to protect prosecutor AUSA Bridgette Hayward from a relentless stalker. A dozen years ago, Bridgette and Sam’s changed their futures. Sam couldn’t figure a way back to Bridgette and stuck with one-night stands. Bridgette trusted guys she thought were Sam’s equal and one spun her into this profession instead of her original passion.
Despite notes, threats, photos and attempts on her life, confident, untrusting Bridgette argued her current client was getting desperate as the trial drew close. Sam wasn’t as sure and fought for more information as he and Bridge worked through their issues. Bridgette shared some and the pair a couple grew closer and more comfortable. But after a few close calls, panic attacks and even more spilled secrets, Bridgette ventures out of safety headlong into danger. Rating: 4stars
Action, danger, Twister, second chances. The main characters were together in high school until craziness (spoilers) happens and he takes off to join the military. After a medical discharge he goes into private protection and ends up guarding the heroine. A couple of times I decided she was too stupid to live but he kept her alive despite herself and a happy ending ensues. Despite the occasional issues I had with the heroine I enjoyed this book and I loved the hero. ***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***
Intense action, high emotions and a strong woman that fought her way to freedom -excellant story!
Bridge fought for her life and became even stronger and won her freedom. Sam walked away from her at eighteen and has always been in like he with her....circumstances prevented them from being together. They built independent and productive lives but circumstances throw them together again. Military mission action, intense pace, who done it mystery. Friendships relationship it touches it all. Violence3, sex2
I have read this author before and enjoyed her books. So, in spite of the fact that the "second chance" trope in not among my favorites, I chose to read this anyway. Once I waded through the second chance gobbledygook, the story got exciting with plenty of action and suspense. The "second chance" stuff is my issues, not the author's. She actually did a good job of writing an entertaining story. After all, I did stick it out until the sigh worthy happy ending. Good job Kris!
Sam had known Bridget in high school and they had been dating. But when his best friend asked for his help he gave it. Then the best friend lied to Bridget. Causing the two to break up for a dozen years. Now she needs a bodyguard and Sam is the one she gets. It isn't long before they reunite.
This story had great suspense and excitement. I dislike the graphic sex but the characters and their back stories were so well told that I still gave it 5 stars. Entertaining book!
This was a well written perfect fit into this Kindle World. The storyline was well paced. I liked the characters. I used the text to speech option so no notable editing errors that would kick you out of the story.
Great reading about Bridgette. She is the Asst DA and working a big case but now someone is trying to kill her. Sam or Midnight shows up to protect her. Full of suspense and mystery.
Sam aka Midnight should have been called Honor. Its wound all threw him and comes out in spades. Bridgette US Atty and teenage girlfriend from the past. They both have been through so much. Thrilled with the HEA decision Brig made.
finally another brotherhood protectors book I've read that's got a little bit of sexy romance in it. Period there's a lot of romance books a brotherhood protectors that are romantic at all
Another great story of men who protect people and stand for justice. Saving strangers is one thing, but when it comes to a person who you once loved, which out.
I love Brotherhood protectors series.I have so far found two authors not up to the task. This author is great,I totally get lost in romance, danger and love.
This book is a great example of its genre, very sexy, damsel in distress and rough diamond of a man, put them together and you get a happy ending. It was probably a tad too long, and I get that Bridgette has self esteem issues (and great use of plot to put her becoming an uber lawyer after such a traumatic event), but I thought Sam would be more confident in his feelings - just not at expressing them. Also I thought it was a bit of a stretch for both the characters to have kept their love alive for ten or so years when they had only dated for six months when they were 18 years old, I would buy it more if they had been older and been together for longer. All in all a fun read. Read and review free copy, not my favourite genre, but good for this type of book.
Another great read of the Protectors. I always love going back to Montana. "Midnight" has problems with the ghost of his best friend who died in his arms. Though he's gone to work for Hank and has an assignment, little does he know it will be his old sweetheart and love from years ago. She is an assistant DA who is trying a drug lord, and they are trying to scare her, but there is someone else out there trying to get to her and Midnight is hired to protect her much to their surprise.
Omg this book had me in tears and just wanted to hug them both. It's such a great story one of my favorites now and it has action, pain, fear, love and happy endings but the storyline is what keeps you wanting more
