The Way In is an anthology of statements about the spiritual life, each one challenging preconceptions and responding to the hunger for real answers. It gives sound advice about false trails on the spiritual path and practical teachings for the Ways of Truth, Love, Stillness and Prayer. The section on the 'Way of Stillness' contains the text of the Audio Book 'Start Meditating Now'. 'The Way of Love' supports the teachings in Barry Long's best-seller 'Making Love : Sexual Love the Divine Way'. It is the best survey in one volume of all the practical aspects of Barry Long's teachings and recommended as an inspiration to anyone, whatever their spiritual background.
I found this compilation to be an excellent all-in-one source that covers most of Barry Long’s teachings and general foundation. Although the essays are short in length, the reader will be left with a good understanding of where Barry was coming from, and his aims and general approach. The particulars are covered in hours of talks and audios, so one should especially listen to the Myth of Life series. I won’t comment here much on the teachings themselves but like many teachers, Barry presented something new to the table with some highly effective areas for growth, but also some grey areas that need discernment. Overall a good book to start with for serious Barry Long study.
Barry Long lived in Australia, Queensland and was a spiritual teacher, who published a number of books, conducted many workshops, seminars and claimed that he gained the knowledge of the working of the Universe and human place in it after the transformation that happened to him in 1964 after he left an ordinary life and travelled to India. He died in December 2003 and in his last days published his personal experience of change in consciousness while approaching death. "The way in" - is a collection of articles from some of his books and lectures and based on the idea of right meditation and mastering the control over the thought process. He stressed the importance of staying in the moment and believed that all the unhappiness comes from our inability to simply live our life instead of projecting our thoughts into the past or the future. I read this book every 2-3 year as a good reminder of taking control over your own life .
