With the shake-up at the OIO, Alexis Parker is assigned to assist the DEA on a long-term undercover operation across the country. Being away from home might be just what Alex needs to regain some perspective, especially when Martin's been so distant lately. But this assignment might be more than either of them bargained for since the death toll continues to rise while hard evidence remains zilch.
After being transplanted across the country and given a cover identity that makes Alex appear to be more of a loner than she actually is, she is recruited by a nearby cult leader. He has a history with drugs and has been accused of sexual abuse, so being forced to live at the commune isn't exactly a walk in the park. Luckily, Alex's DEA counterpart, Agent Jackson Decker, is a seasoned undercover operative more than willing to watch her back, even if she questions his ability to conduct a proper investigation. After all, Decker's been under for eight months with hardly any evidence to show for it. However, the growing number of former cult members turning into dead drug mules indicates that something sinister is brewing.
Parker and Decker need to find enough proof to shut down the cult, put an end to the drug trafficking, and make sure the self-proclaimed religious leader pays for his sins. It's another hell of a case.

Further evidence comes to light & the plot thickens.
Thank goodness Alex is back in prime shape! After the last book, I had to take break, it was a frustrating one to read, with all her mistakes and skewed thinking.
This book more than redeems her, and moves her forward, as a person and an agent. Initially, she’s avoiding her messed up life by going undercover in a cult where it’s believed the leader is running drugs.
Working with Jace Decker, who’s been undercover for 8 mohths already, Alex hopes to force the leader, Tim’s, hand.
She effectively plays her part, though it’s far from who she really is, and in the process, talks to Jace about where some of her problems lie.
It was interesting to read about how Tim poisons Alex, how he subtly drugs his “flock” in meditation classes, etc. I had some suspicions, but got stuck in other places about what was going on.
The tunnels they discover but can’t find the exit to, the upstairs filing room, the mystery of where the drugs are and who Tim’s involved with, it’s all really cool to read about.
With Martin, Alex FINALLY realizes she made a mistake trying to protect him, she can’t control everything to keep him safe. He also works on his end to put himself on more even footing with her professional training, so sweet, and totally believable.
I’ve missed him in this book, especially when things were so rough beteeen them in the last one. Loved Decker and his team, stalwart Mark, and Eddie in his minor appearance.
This is a new favourite, along with a few other 5 star instalments in this series.

Things have been strained between Alex and Martin since she lied to get him out of the country without her. She finally decides to set him free and goes on a deep undercover assignment with the DEA. She and her partner, Have, from the DEA have infiltrated a cult run by a guy with a history of drug distribution and several females have been found dead cut open and overdosed. They were drug mules and they expected Tim Wilde the head of the cult of using them and throwing them away. Alex makes a brief call to Martin when she has a respite from the compound and sees him when she has to fly back home to testify in court about her last case. They finally bust the cult, find a woman who had disappeared and found the tunnels and she gets to go home. Now it's time to try to work things out with Martin.
I became interested in these books because of a review saying they were like my beloved JD Robb Death series. I mainly tried the first book as a lark thinking they could never be as good. I WAS WRONG. The characters in this series are fully developed and complex. I found myself caring deeply for them and the plots are incredible. Many a night has been spent reading til the wee hours because I could not put the book down. I purchased every one of these books instead of using Amazon's book club because I wanted to own them to reread. I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys a great cop mystery with a wonderful cast of characters. Well gotta go I'm stating her next series now...happy reading!
This book was interesting, but I hated how Alex was treated by Martin. And I don't like the fact he was being secretive. That's just crap. She puts her life on the line, and he acts like a spoiled child.
The Love that Alex & Martin share goes deeper than love of self. Its rare to find someone who values your morals as much as you do. Its a gift to be savored & revered. This book combines crime story & romance in an enjoyable read!
I’m so glad this book wasn’t as intense as some of them have been. ***Spoiler alert*** I’m glad Martin and Alex found their way back to each other. I was really so disappointed when they broke up, I almost stopped reading the series! On to book 13…
I enjoyed the plot of this book and really understood Alex when she took the chance to go on a deep undercover mission, especially with the changes in her relationship and Lucca leaving.
I always enjoy the books in this series. I would like to have given this one 5 stars, but the strong female lead being obsessed with her relationship distracted from the story.
