I compared this series to How To Get Away with Murder and I stand by it. It also has a bit of early Riverdale energy, if I'm collecting western references.

I actually really enjoyed this series. I read it over the course of a big migraine episode and it was engrossing enough to be a distraction from the pain. Genuinely entertaining. 3.5 stars rounded up.

I would've liked this better if it wasn't shounen+ecchi and didn't come with all its eye-rolling wish-fulfillment tropes. Maybe you'll like this better if you're a young boy and enjoy imagining yourself as Shintarou, and thus all the boob-grabbing and the way all female characters inexplicably lusts over him just ｡☆˚｡⋆makes sense｡⋆˚☆｡

Honestly, Ryuu was way hotter both physically and characteristically, so irl he'd win over Shin and Akira hands down. Sorry to burst your bubble, neets.

Anyway. I'm not the demography for it, whatever, my own fault, blablabla ... but was that almost-rape scene really necessary? I mean, other than to get some bondage panels in there? Was that stripping-down scene really contributive to the plot in the grander scheme of things? Was it?

I also looove the way these five friends are supposed to be the bestest of buddies, but really they're all just best friends with Shin. Don't even get me started on Haruka and Tsubaki. They're like, lukewarm acquaintances at best. The only reason they're both there is because they both wanna bang Shin. I'm not even exaggerating.
How or why they all gravitate to Shin to that extent in the first place still eludes me. Like I get it, he's super protective and would do anything for his friends---except they ALL would do anything for their friends, so You're Not That Special, Bro ... plus this protective side only comes out AFTER they've killed his dad and he kinda has to be protective of them ... since they were all, you know, protective of him to the point of actually killing a whole grown-ass adult for him.

But I'm getting side-tracked. The plot. The story. It was interesting enough, it was okay. Major spoilers ahead, don't come at me since I've warned you.

The main plot revolved around the mystery of who found out about their murder all those years ago, and why he's sending this group of tweens out to run errands instead of straight-up just reporting them to the police (or even, I dunno, extorting them for money??)

The ending was sufficiently satisfying. I am really glad they all faced some form of justice, because by the end of the series, I really ... didn't particularly like any of them, lol. Except maybe Ryuu. You deserve a better group of friends, my man. And certainly deserve better than being a second-choice-rebound for Haruka. It's not her fault. She was written into a shounen.

I wished there would've been more consequences for them, though. Tsubaki literally arranged for and looked on while Akira--their purported best friend--was killed, and they all just had a huge cry-sesh and apology circle-jerk and we're all good? Really? REALLY? Ugh. Female-lead-in-a-shounen syndrome at its peak.

J'ai absorbé cette histoire en quelques jours. On m'a promis du gore et des corps découpés, j'ai été servie ! Pas mal déçue par le traitement des femmes dans la série néanmoins, et un peu également par certaines facilités scénaristiques.

Hand's down one of the most messed up things I've came across in a while. Did it entertain me? Sure. Did I like it? Hmm that's debatable. The plot isn't quite up to mark (by that I mean super average in every aspect yet fucking insane at the same time) but it kept me hooked. The ending was sweet so that's a plus. Still can't wrap my head around how these were mere kids, teenagers ffs. Really made me question Japan's judicial system :/

I’m just gonna summarize how I feel about the whole series here since it’s just one long story. It kept me hooked, but I wasn’t really satisfied with the reveals. It was also gruesome and horrifying and made me question the Japanese criminal justice system. Don’t murder people, kids.

Credo che questo sia uno dei finali più belli che io abbia mai letto...

Ho letto da qualche parte che i finali giapponesi - spesso aperti e indefiniti - sono tipici della cultura nipponica e poco appetibili per gli occidentali. Beh, questo è perfetto. Son cinque stelline solo per le tavole finali.

Anche perché la parte della spiegazione è stata piuttosto crudele e non riuscivo a crederci io stessa. Troppe relazioni studentessa-insegnante nei manga ultimamente. E la parte in prigione mi è sembrata un po' troppo perfetta.

Ma la fine... ah, la fine. Con il mio adorato Shintaro che finalmente comprende qual è la sua ragione per continuare a vivere.

Decisamente una bella serie. Mi sento fortunata! Solo che adesso passerà almeno un anno prima di trovare un'altra serie altrettanto bella.

I'm honestly disappointed. I really liked the synopsis and was enjoying this manga a lot but things started going downhill midway.

I am not a huge fan of the art, but it didn't affect the process of reading.

Things I really disliked:

1. the disgusting objectification of the female characters. This is probably on me though because I did not notice the "ecchi" genre tag. This manga could have done way better if the objectification was left out and the focus was on the horror aspect.

2. The "plot twist" and ending were really disappointing. The only reason why I even continued reading this manga was that I had to know who was behind everything that went on and when the truth was revealed.....yeah I wish I skipped it.

I was expecting more of Junji Ito's works but yeah....that didn't happen.

Bref, "Jusqu'à ce que nos os pourrissent" est le récit d'une amitié scellée par un crime et la culpabilité qui s'ensuit. J'ai aimé les réflexions sur le bien et le mal et la complexité des personnages. On ressent parfaitement le poids du secret qu'ils ont au fond de leur cœur et qui les ronge petit à petit jusqu'à les rendre fous. Le dénouement nous offre des éléments de réponses à ce sujet et je l'ai apprécié tel quel, même si le personnage de Tsubaki me laisse dubitative. Je regrette par contre l'apparition de scènes particulièrement dégradantes et violentes qui n'apportent rien au récit et n'a pour but que de choquer le lecteur. C'est un mangas intéressant, prenant mais inconsistant dans sa qualité.

This series made me feel icky. It could be argued that Goodnight Punpun had more feel-good moments than this series. Don’t read this manga If you are triggered or have PTSD. I did not sleep well after reading this series, not because it was scary, but because it left an awful feeling in my soul. I hated it but I’ll give it three stars for being unique and the drawing well. Also one of the characters is such a bro. He didn’t deserve to be in this manga. He was the only light in this very dark dark manga.

Poruszała bardzo ciężkie, trudne problemy, wplątała mnóstwo poważnych wątków, ale ubrała je w taki... głupiutki kaftan. Dziwnie się to czytało. Dodatkowo zakończenie okazało się... chyba nie takie jakie bym chciała. Mnóstwo dziur fabularnych, już nie wspomnę o nikomu potrzebnej policji czy bezsensownych zachowań bohaterów. Spoko, wciąga, ale... no włąśnie ale...
i po prawie 100 rozdziałach nikt nie wytłumaczył, dlaczego nikt nie pytał o jego ojca?

Inevitably, somebody finds out. The gory twists and soap-operatic revelations came fast enough to keep me reading, sometimes against my better judgement. CW: Attempted and implied rape, domestic violence, sadism.

Un thriller intrigant accompagné d'un dessin propre mais auquel je n’ai pas réussi à adhérer. Tous les personnages sont manipulateurs, impossible donc de vraiment s'y attacher. Les scènes gores accentuent le côté malsain du manga mais les scènes de sexe à répétition m'ont paru inutiles.

I read this manga in one night and I liked it. It was fun trying to solve the mystery about the murders and my suspicions were confirmed about the culprit! the ending was also fulfilling, redeeming the culprit and everything being fine. :)

Well for a series that I found predictable and a tad cliche, I could not have predicted this conclusion. We get the big reveal of who is the mastermind behind everything and an in-depth explanation of all the reasonings and goings on in the background. Although I didn’t expect it to be who it was, I wasn’t overly surprised. However, as they recount what lead to everything, the story just go more and more unsettling and honestly uncomfortable to read. There is one scene which was particularly heartbreaking. This series features a lot of awful topics that are depicted very graphically including severe ab*se, r*pe, su*cide, p*edophillia, gr**ming, and m*rder. If you are sensitive to this topics, I would give this story a miss. Without going to much into the ending, I will say that the punishment seems awfully light, almost to the point of ridiculous. But overall the ending was a sweet one and for such a messed up series, it was borderline heartwarming. The series as a whole was an enjoyable one and a great horror. There are faults and a lot of missed opportunities in my opinion. I think some of the characters could have had more of a limelight, such as the detectives and the families of the leads. But the art is absolutely beautiful, the leads are well developed, and you know what, I had a blast reading this!
