She's been alone ever since.

Drifting from job to job, her life takes on a new level of misery and danger when she falls prey to hunters. Men who want to use her for their depraved version of fox-hunting. Becca manages to survive. Barely. She escapes her nightmare, but with nowhere left to go, she's forced to return to Bearden.

Heartache isn't done with Becca just yet…

A second chance with the mate he lost.If Nolan Byers could have one do-over, it would be Becca. He and Becca were too young when she got pregnant, and when she lost the baby, they drifted apart. Becca left town, taking Nolan's heart with her.

Time hasn't healed this wound. If anything, the pain is worse. Ten long and lonely years pass until, one day, she returns to Bearden. Becca… his Becca. She's as beautiful as ever. The moment he sees her, he knows why he never wanted another woman. Because of Becca.

His one. His only. His mate for life.

Now he just needs to convince Becca to forgive him. But the feisty fox shifter wants nothing to do with him. He sees her around town and she either shuts him down, brushes him off, or flat-out ignores him.

Her sass infuriates Nolan's bear. His self-control unravels a little more each time he sees his beautiful, aggravating and smart-mouthed little mate. When a fire burns through Becca's home, a fire that starts under suspicious circumstances, Nolan makes his move.

Becca's in danger and his possessive and angry bear will no longer be denied.

A fox and bear get a second chance at love, but nothing is ever easy...

There is a reason why the amazing Cecilia Lane is my favorite shifter romance author; I know I can always trust her to deliver a story with broken but determined characters and a journey to love that's fraught with obstacles that help build toward a satisfying ending.

Becca and Nolan have known each other since Kindergarten and have known they were mates almost as long. They got pregnant at seventeen but had a miscarriage, leaving Becca and Nolan grieving in their own way. Becca left Nolan unable to cope with their loss and separation, but returns to Bearden ten years later with a few more scars of her own. Even though their reunion wasn't what Nolan ever imagined it would be, he's not willing to give up on Becca and is determined to show her that they still belong together. There was so much emotion packed into this novel, and I absolutely savored every word. Ms. Lane has not let me down yet, and I will continue to devour her novels ♡

This is an excellent shifter story that was a pure pleasure to read and is a book I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending. There is history between Becca and Nolan, but when too many coincidences occur involving Becca, Nolan knows he has to protect her at all costs, even though she doesn’t want anything to do with him. Becca is hiding secrets, but eventually plucks up the courage to confide in Nolan, though his reaction is not quite what she expects. Meanwhile, a new arrival in Bearden, Mara, has her own hidden agenda. There are so many twists and turns in this story that when combined makes it a very intriguing read.

Becca left Bearden when she was 18-years old; the result of the pain of her mate abandoning her when she needed him the most. While Becca had tried to make it on her own, her restlessness kept her from staying anywhere too long, plus her fox kept urging her back home to Nolan. There had only been a couple of times when Becca’s life had truly been in danger; each left hidden scars and memories she would rather forget. Jacob and Becca had experienced the same trauma, but while Jacob was trying to gain closure, Becca refused. Since Becca’s return to Bearden six months ago, she has been making Nolan’s life miserable. Becca didn’t want to talk to him and acted like she was the only one who had experienced the loss. At the time Nolan didn’t know how to act like a real person, much less a grieving father. They had been too young for mates and too young for kids; Fate had handed them both and then took everything away just as quickly. It is 10-years to the day Becca left Bearden, 10-years and three-months since she lost her baby and 10-years and six-months since she started to lose her mate; and the wounds still felt fresh. Becca thought she could handle being back in Bearden as well as the rush of memories that came with it, but each day had proved her wrong. There was a reason Becca avoided Nolan; even with all the hurt he caused, she still wanted him, but she couldn’t trust him not to abandon her again. Nolan wants to be the man Becca needs, but has to prove to her somehow that they belong together; there was no changing the past, but they could still make a future. Mara, a newcomer to Bearden is scheming to drive Becca away; not content with shooting at her and then setting fire to her house, she takes Becca on a journey that makes her re-live the nightmares of her past. Nolan had promised Becca that he would always be there for her, and now he has the chance to prove it. A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

"Hunted Mate" is the third story in Cecilia Lane's series Shifters of Bear's Den.  Life seems to be settling down a bit after the events in the first two stories in this series... but for Becca and Nolan, things are just beginning to reheat.  Becca has been a vocal secondary character in this series so far, but now we get to understand the love/hate relationship she has with Nolan, and it is as heartbreaking as it is, at times, frustrating.  These two are mates, a delightful fact that they discovered far too young to face what life had in store for them very early on.  When tragedy struck neither had the wisdom or the maturity to turn to each other, instead, they kept to their own heads, allowed rampant grief make decisions for them that further changed their lives.  While Becca's memories and emotions paint Nolan's actions with a very dark brush, in reality, there was much she didn't know at the time.  Whose fault was that?  Neither one.  They were eighteen and seventeen,   So young to take on the responsibility of mates, becoming parents, and then grieving individuals who could not or would not turn to each other for comfort.  Although she barely acknowledges it to this day, it was Becca's need to run away from Bearden, from her twin, from Nolan that leads to even more pain in her life that carries over into her future.  Unfortunately, the past that she came home to escape is about to catch up with her... and the town.

I listen to my instincts while reading.  And there is one new character that I mistrusted from their first appearance... and in reality, I'm still not comfortable trusting them after their actions.  Considering how this character may play into the rest of the series perhaps I should be more open to the possibility of forgiveness... but I find that I cannot.  And I'm not certain how the rest of this clan will be able to overlook the past either.  The reading jury in my head is still out on this one.

"Hunted Mate" is intense in both storyline and the emotions that this story brings out in the reader.  It was, in many ways, a bittersweet return to Bearden for me.  Throughout this story Becca and Nolan are working their way back to each other... reluctantly, cautiously, but steadily back to the one who matters most of all.  It's an emotional journey full of anger and tears but it's one they need to make in order to face what is coming.  There is a danger to the residents of Bearden once again, an old enemy sneaks in, and a new enemy strikes.  It was easy to fall back into this world with the hope of a reunion and the sense of more danger just around the corner always at the forefront of my mind.  There are twists, a few surprises, and some lifelong changes in "Hunted Mate".  I enjoyed myself, even when I didn't agree with what was happening... that's why I'm the reader, not the writer... but I certainly had a tense, entertaining time in this world once again.  I would not hesitate to recommend this story and this series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader who enjoys involved storylines, characters that will set off your emotions and danger that lurked just about everywhere... even where you least expect it.

Hunted Mate is the third book in the Shifters of Bear’s Den series. Becca and Nolan were each other’s everything up until they were seventeen when a miscarriage tore them apart. Ten years later, Becca returns, feeling broken and all twisted up, blood on her soul and a yearning for a man she doesn’t want. Nolan is determined that Becca will be his mate and they will find their happy ending, but can he convince her to let go of their past hurts and keep her safe from the danger than hunts her?

Oh my goodness, this book left me on an emotional rollercoaster that I absolutely loved! Becca and Nolan have such a hard past that anyone would struggle with, and I couldn’t even imagine what having an inner animal and all of those instincts would add! My heart wanted to break with some of their struggles, both past and present, but I loved the courage that it took for Becca to take that step forward, to trust Nolan again, and I loved that Nolan never gave up on Becca once she came back. That is a love and a bond that will last. I kind of feel awful for the shifters in Bearden, with everything that’s been going on lately, but I love their sense of community, sense of unity, and their love! I loved this book and highly recommend this series to any paranormal romance lover!

Hunted Mate is Book 3 in the Shifters of Bear’s Den series. It can be read as a stand-alone but it is better understood if one at least reads the first book in the series to get the world building.

As a fan of shifters, second chance and grovel, I was looking forward to this novel. It mostly delivered.

High school sweethearts, Becca and Nolan are fated mates haunted by events from ten years ago. Becca left Nolan and the Montana town of Bearden traveling across the US for years, recently returning after a traumatic experience. Becca is working as a waitress in her sister’s diner. Firefighter Nolan has lived with guilt and regret hoping he would get another chance with Becca. When Becca is in danger Nolan seizes his chance to earn her trust and demonstrate he can be the mate she needs. There is a medium amount of grovel from this possessive hero. The interconnected characters from the other books of the Strathorn clan create a family atmosphere.
The author sensitively captures the anguish the characters experienced.

Notes/Tropes: PNR, M/F, 3.5 rating, 3.0 steam. Bear & fox shifter, second chance, enemies-to-lovers, small town.

TW/CW: miscarriage, death, 3rd party abuse, kidnapping

Love Renewed

This is the third story in the series and the author keeps getting better with building the world and characters of Bearsden. Becca and Nolan grew up together and friendship turned to love. But, when tragedy strikes neither teenager is equipped to deal with it and Becca runs away from her feelings and from Nolan. Ten years later she returns home, but there are secrets she hides from everyone (even her twin sister) and Nolan triggers a lot of her animosity. For his part, Nolan has never gotten over her and needs to find a way to convince her she is his mate. But, can Becca find a way to work through her memories, as well as the nightmares, and find a way to let him back in again? Or, will outside forces be able to keep them apart forever? One-click this book and give it a chance. If you like paranormal stories involving shifters I don’t think you will be disappointed.

“Hunted Mate” is a wonderful addition to the Shifters of Bear's Den series. Becca and Nolan are fated mates, still in high school when Becca becomes pregnant. She miscarries and because of this tragedy Becca and Nolan grow apart. Feeling alone, Becca leaves Bearden but returns after ten long years. Nolan is still in love with Becca and he's so happy she's back. Becca of course wants nothing to do with Nolan. Nolan will have to prove that he's changed and work hard to get her back. Meanwhile someone is setting fires and someone takes a shot at Becca. Did the danger that Becca left behind follow her to Bearden? “Hunted Mate” is a well-written, intriguing second-chance romance with a mix of drama, suspense, mystery, fear, love and steamy sexual scenes. This book is definitely well worth reading.

Second Chance Love

It’s dangerous being a shifter in a human world. And in a world with unpredictable fae. Pretty intense former childhood lovers to hate to lovers tale, with some world-building not too unusual for this genre. Well-done in Becca’s long-tendered hurt and rage, although sustaining that amount of strong emotion for so long is a real accomplishment. The same for Nolan, too. These are passionate people! I liked the secondary characters. I kept feeling like I’d missed an earlier series, and I might have. This author also has a dragon series out, but I’m not sure if it’s set in this same world (which also has dragons).
Anyway, decent read!
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Hunted Mate: A Shifting Destinies Near Shifter..
By Cecilia Lane 5 Stars

I loved going back to the special town of Bearden and reading about the residents, the firehouse and their special uniqueness there.

Becca's journey back to Bearden, her family, and Nolan, was filled with so much pain and terror for her from the hunters and memories of the past that you cant help but feel it to your core. And now that they may be back for her, she must finally trust her fox and Nolan that past mistakes wont happen again. Squeal!!!!

Mature readers, some strong language and sexual content.

This review expresses my own voluntary thoughts and opinion. I did get an ARC from the author for this story. Becca and Nolan have had a close though distant relationship for the last ten years. Teenage infatuation and love led to a pregnancy that led to loss that led to a running away. Now Becca is back to face all the hurt she's had lived with since Nolan's immaturity and inability to face to circumstances they both had created drove her away. This is a story of two people dealing with their short comings and accepting what fate had given them. Darkness and danger shadow their journey.

Didn't live up to the promise for me.
The blurb intrigued me but I ended up skimming through as at 40%. it seemed to be going round in circles and getting nowhere.
Started off a very sad story but I started finding it hard to feel sorry for Becca. Her actions were self-destructive. It is obvious she is suffering a form of PTSD but no one around her is staging an intervention. They just think she is unreliable and flaky.
Really didn’t like the ending with Mara’s actions, no matter the reason and the hunters and the fight ring.
Didn’t feel any connection to Nolan or Becca. Not quite what I want in a shifter story.

Becca has been running and hiding for the last 10 years. After finally returning home, she can't help but be around Nolan, Bearden isn't all that big after-all. So much happened to Becca before she left and while gone and none of it she wants to talk about or deal with. Nolan has been waiting and hoping that Becca would be back, but didn't have much faith in it. He never moved on, he knew she was the only one for him. Now she's back and Nolan is determined to win her. The passion between them is incredible and the events that they have to go through are horrible. I loved this story and i'm sure you will too!!

ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
This was such an emotional story.
Disappointed by her mate, Becca left Bearden.
Nolan misses his mate every single day, and he prays for a chance to make it right.
Will Becca + Nolan be able to put the past behind?
Will they give a future together a chance ?
This was very "2nd chances" kind of book.
I loved the storytelling + the characters
The storytelling + the character's build were awesome!

This is a excellent 2nd chance shifter romance and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. What you will find in this fascinating book is: drama, intrigue, suspense, twists & turns, action, memories, tragedy, hunters, betrayal, fear, verbal disputes, mates, lust, love and erotic scenes. The story-line and plot is well thought out and is exceptionally well written. The characters are well developed and entwine well with each other with regards to the situation that they find themselves in and react with fears, doubts, needs and desires.

Who would have thought that Becca, a feisty little Fox and Nolan, a beautiful Man/Bear would cause lots of emotions, drama, and so much more. Together they have endured secret heartache..losing their baby and then Becca left. 10 years apart...too long. Now Becca is back and Nolan realises he has to fight for her in a more terrifying dramatic way. A brilliant series bringing back the people in the town of Bearden,,Callum, Leah, Cole, and so many more.
This story made me tear up at times, I just wanted to hug them and say all will be well. Loved it.

Loved this one.

Becca and Nolan suffered a terrible loss years ago and she left town. Now she is back, but not for him. She's determined to forget him and he's determined to claim his mate. Through patience and TLC Nolan regains Becca's heart. One traitor in their midst could destroy them forever. Sweet second chance story that is just sexy enough to keep me turning the pages. Nolan's brooding presence sets Becca's fox on edge from the beginning. The only one he wants hunting his little mate is him.

As usual this author did not let me down in merging characters from the previous books and excelling in this new one. I have loved every one of these so far and am hoping there will be a fourth one to follow. A great author with a great imagination. I know this is not like other reviews but I do not like to give away the storyline, but if you are a bear shifter story lover like myself you will love this whole series.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review, and this is it.

Becca and Nolan are mates but never bonded as when they were seventeen the miscarriage tore them apart instead of bringing them more together. Becca comes back after ten years but so much has happened to her and there is a threat but most of all she still wants the man that she feels let her down and ran away. This book will certainly take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride that you will absolutely love.

Book three in the Shifters of Bear's Den is just as wonderful as the first two. This is the story of Becca and Nolan. It is a second chance romance that will tug at your heart-strings and keep you guessing with all the twists and turns. Parts of this story almost brought tears to my eyes and other parts had me smiling like a crazy person (at least that's what my son said). It will also have you not wanting to put it down.

Nolan and Becca

This is the third book in the series: Shifters of Bear's Den but is a standalone novel in the series. Nolan and Becca are a couple 💑 that have lost their way for a decade. When Becca returns to Bearden, mysterious events start to happen. Nolan, a firefighter, Becca's estranged mate, is learning new things about relationships, mates and along with Becca, growing. This novel is about discovering others and oneself. A great book with a HEA.

A bear and a fox

Young love, an unexpected pregnancy, loss of baby, lack of communication. She is held by hunters but escapes when they are hunting her fox. She makes it back to Bearden. Shifters are now outed. She eventually makes it up with her mate, a bear. They are caught by hunters again and the story ends with their escape with assistance of his clan.

Horrible what some humans will do to those who are different from them.

Good read

This is a pretty good series, once you start it suddenly your hooked. There is always a lot of action besides romance and Author keeps you guessing on what’s gonna happen next. You definitely want to start at the beginning so you know all the background happenings and characters. Each has its own HEA and could probably be read as a stand-alone but don’t do it. You’ll miss out on too much!

Nolan & Bec,s story took me a few chapters to get into...but then the story started to come onto it own...and typically me had to read it in one night....clever plot...with the Becs being a very frightened fox after the fight camps and Nolan a typical Male...but a great story ...

Nolan and Becca went through hell and back only to go through it all over again! I like this town they all went through HELL and they came out better for it. But these two Nolan and Becca ...well they have baggage and it's going to take Nolan a lot to get his mate if he can. Good storyline and great characters!!
