Come back to me …

Luke remembers a few things. Just not his last name, or anyone he ever knew. He knows that he’s a supersoldier, genetically enhanced and loaded up with brain implants. He just escaped from a year-long hell of captivity, and to protect his family and friends from his tormentors, he blocked his memories. Now he needs those memories back, fast … or he and those he loves will die agonizing deaths.

Luke’s dangerous plan to reconnect with his past—and stay alive in the present—has drawn his enemies’ attention to the tough and sexy Dani LaSalle. He’s duty bound to protect the luscious beauty from the evil pursuing them, but he can’t control the scorching desire she awakens in him.

Dani’s strict routine has been trashed by Luke’s explosive arrival. This rock-hard slab of valiant, smoldering manhood appears out of nowhere, saves her life, spirits her away to his mountain lair and bewilders her with tales of sadistic researchers, enhanced assassins. Is this gorgeous, problematic sex god just plain crazy—or is she? But Luke can do things with his mind that are just as wild as what he can do with that body … and she can’t say no.

And there’s no time to wonder. As their passion burns hotter, Obsidian moves closer … and Luke and Dani must place their lives and their hearts on the line just to survive …

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

I started writing my first romance novel in secret. I was working a temp job in an insurance office in Manhattan at the time, and the office manager had made it clear that even if there was nothing to do, I still had to look busy-- never one of my big talents. I felt bad about the wasted time, though, and I needed something to round out my other chosen career, which was singing. Yeah, that's right. Most artists choose a more practical Plan B to back up their improbable Plan A. Me? No way. "Long Shot" is my middle name.

So I sneakily set up a Document 1 and a Document 2 with a spreadsheet on it. If my Boss du Jour walked by I could quick-like-a-bunny switch screens, and whenever the coast was clear, I went back to my story. Not that I was slacking, mind you. If there was work to be done, I did it. The sneakiness felt familiar, though, because I've been teased about reading romances since I was a kid. I think the day I finally grew up was the day I stopped trying to cover up what I was reading on the bus, train or subway. Let people think whatever they like.

It wasn't until I moved to Italy (details of that Long Shot provided later on) that I got serious about writing, though. I found myself with many long, quiet days alone with nothing to do, so I slogged my way bravely to the end of the manuscript and sent it out. Everybody rejected it-except for Kensington. I wrote for them for a few years, and then made a bid for an erotic novella for the new Brava imprint, and oh joy, they accepted it. Then I wrote BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. And so on, and so forth.

That's how I started. I can't think of anything I'd rather do. I never knew it would be so scary, and so hard . . . all that solitude and silence, a blank computer screen, and no one to blame. But still. It's worth it. It's great.

In My Skin is the third book in the in the Obsidian Files series and right off the bat it starts off strong and keeps on going.

Luke is an enhanced super soldier who escaped Obsidian and is now on the run. In order to protect himself he instituted a brain block. He put up a protective wall inside his head so Obsidian cannot find him and also so he can protect loved ones. Only, now he can’t remember who he is supposed to be protecting or even remember his last name. All he knows is he needs to stop an Obsidian courier with vital information in a chip implanted in his body. The courier, Naldo, winds up at Daniela LaSalle’s home, slowly dying with a deep wound in his chest.

Dani has not seen or heard from Naldo in six years. He disappeared one day never to be seen or heard from again, until today. As she tries to help him and stop the bleeding, Naldo hands her a chip and asks her to help Ivy and also tells Dani she is now in danger. Dani has no idea who he is talking about and its no one she even remembers from their juvi days. It is too late to find out though, as Naldo is fading and the hospital is unable to save his life. Things take a turn when Luke invades her home and protects her from soldiers intent on killing her. Now they are both on the run while Luke tries to regain his memory and keep dani safe at the same time.

Shannon McKenna never disappoints and always delivers a well written standout story. In My Skin is full of action and hot sexy scenes between Luke and Dani. They can’t help being attracted to one another, even though Dani is not sure if she should really trust him or not. Both Luke and Dani are well thought out three dimensional characters. I really loved Dani. She is a fiesty bad ass in her own right and Luke is her match in every way. They both compliment each other and their scenes were super hot.

Characters in the previous books do make an appearance. I would have loved to read the first two books just to get more of a backstory on Obsidian and the super enhanced soldiers. The story does work fine as a standalone and I never felt lost.

In My Skin is a sexy, addictive, action packed ride that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning. I could not put this book down! Shannon McKenna really knows how to capture your attention and never lets go right up until the end. I highly recommend this book if you love action, romance, and a bit of sci-fi thrown into the mix. It is a well rounded mix that is sure to keep you glued to the pages right to the very end.

Nayeli - per RFS
.

Voleva riavere indietro i suoi ricordi, a qualunque costo.

— Dani…
— Non rompere! — gli disse, schiaffeggiando le mani con cui provava a stringerla. — Odio piangere. Divento orribile.
— Io ti trovo bellissima quando piangi.
— Ecco. Sai dove devi metterteli i tuoi complimenti sdolcinati?”

— Sì, spaventa anche me. Quindi, cerchiamo di essere coraggiosi. (Tratto dal libro)

I thought this book was a little uneven. However, the action is non-stop. McKenna is a pro at getting you to care about her characters and what happens to them. Great side characters, too.

*Arc received by the author in exchange for an honest review.*

Since the first book, I couldn't wait to have Luke found and read his book and I wasn't disappointed. In my opinion, this is the best in the series so far. Like in the other books, the story is fast paced, with a well thought plot and great characters. I just loved Luke!

Last but not least, I would say that you know you are reading a great book, when even though you know that all will end well, you are still stress out.

IN MY SKIN Shannon McKenna
This third installment of the Obsidian Files is exciting and full of ‘edge of your seat’ action. The style in which Shannon McKenna writes puts the reader directly in the story. I felt that I was hiding in the room while the story unfolded around me. Once again Shannon paints vivid landscapes that augment the largeness of the characters. In the midst of the suspense, mystery and action, she creates characters who are deeply emotional and vibrantly sexual with the inherent desire to do good.
Having read the previous books in this series, I was eager to find out what happened to Luke, and IF he would ever be found and get his memoires back. The characters special powers do not detract from the reader believing that they are constantly in danger - in fact, the reader is in constant fear that these beloved characters will suffer more than death.
We learned about Luke in her previous tomes and this one puts him front and centre. As always, Shannon takes a background character from Right Through Me and My Next Breath and makes him central to the story while introducing another strong, powerful, self confident female. Shannon skillfully weaves the background stories of the rebels into this new story and hints at the connections they have with the characters we fell in love with in Right Through Me and My Next Breath. The powerful bond they have as ‘family’ because of their shared experience, makes them larger than life heros and heroines who would risk their lives to save each other.
The constant struggle between the main characters, Luke and Dani to be separately strong and individual and to trust, creates a sense of yearning for acceptance and unconditional love as well as a sexual tension that is palpable. Exposing Luke’s depth of longing to know his past and to also protect Dani is gut wrenching. The title, In My Skin, is so appropriate as the reader is plunged into the science of what was done to Luke and how he was able to overcome much of the programming to protect his group. Once again, we find Luke and Dani struggling to stay alive and to stay one step ahead of their enemies while risking their lives to save another innocent from being tortured. The fact that the group has some success is satisfying however, as always, Shannon leaves us wanting more as she has introduced other characters who are hurting or in need of rescue.
Shannon has mastered the skill of weaving together new technology and paranormal powers so that the characters abilities, and the challenges they face do not seem over the top - in fact, it is all very real and mysterious. The science behind the Obsidian group is explained realistically and is reminiscent of such great stories as Terminator and Matrix. Luke’s amazing ability to build walls in his own mind to block his memories in order to protect everyone as well as Zoe’s intriguing healing abilities are mesmerizing. I enjoy the introduction of ‘normal’ people who love these cyborgs and have their own boundless strength and courage. They can hold their own and sometimes they are the cyborgs’ only hope.
I honestly can say that I loved this and I anticipate the Obsidian Files will be another successful series, just as good as, the McCloud Brothers series! Thank you Shannon McKenna for another great love story!

This is a brilliant mix of science-fiction and very hot, romantic suspense and, although it is the third book in the series, it still works well as a standalone IMHO. The heroic supersoldier star of this story is Luke and, other than knowing he’s been genetically enhanced and had brain implants, that’s all the personal information he is certain about. He has escaped from a horrendous year in captivity and, to protect those he cares about from those who are after him, he has blocked his memories of them. Now, however, he needs to remember their details and quickly so he can protect those he loves ffom those seeking any advantage that will enable them to recapture and manipulate him.

Daniela LaSalle is a nurse and is shocked when Naldo, someone she knew years ago but who disappeared, knocks on her door she discovers he has a serious, self-inflicted chest wound from removing a microchip implanted in his chest. Naldo gives her the microchip, a task and a warning that she is in deadly danger before, sadly, dying. When Luke crashes into her life, endeavouring to protect her, she really doesn’t trust him but the heat really is on! As the two learn to trust each other, they need to work together to thwart those attempting to capture them both despite the heat that between them escalates in this sultry romantic suspense.

With well developed characters, a hot plot and so much more this is a well crafted page turner that kept me enthralled. I suspect anyone who enjoys romantic suspense, science fiction or a superb mix of these genres will also find this a highly entertaining read.

I requested and was given a copy of this book with no obligation. This is my own, honest review after choosing to read it.

I am definitely not into the heavy sci-fi direction that Ms. McKenna has taken. She is my go-to author and I can always count her to give me a stellar story. However, this series is a HUGE miss! Besides the heroes, the heroines also have cyber enhancements. The women are dominant, especially during sex, while the heroes are more passive. I hate that. I desperately miss the McCloud series. I was holding onto hope for Asa since he is fully human but looks like his love interest is enhanced.

This is the heroine's response to the hero's declaration of love:
"I'm looking forward to that. You're fun. And hot. And incredibly fine. You know what? I can't wait to get you alone. So I can totally blow your mind."

The dialogue was bad and so were the characters. Therefore, for the first time ever, I will not be discontinuing this author's series.

I love this series and Luke's book is great. You see he doesn't remember even his last name right now. Neither does he remember his family nor his friends because he put up blocks so that when he was recaptured he couldn't tell the secrets of the others who had escaped with him.

Dani is a nurse, her best friend is Naldo so when he shows up on her doorstep bleeding she has no idea he is an Obsidian member.

When she meets Luke the last thing she wants to do is believe him much less so what he tells her she must do. So she fights him until she finds out the hard way the yes he is telling the truth and yes she must leave her home and everything she has to stay safe. But, of course, it's too late for that and now the two of them must fight to stay alive.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Where do I even begin to describe this novel? I'll start out by admitting to being an avid fan of Ms. McKenna's books since I read her first novel, and, just like all her other novels, this one, the third novel in her Obsidian Files series, is one spectacular thrill ride from beginning to end, and it gets 5 stars from this reader.

If you're a fan of romantic suspense, you'll find this novel and this series to be so much more than that, because it also fits right into the realm of science fiction, thrillers, a touch of horror, some paranormal and action adventure. The heroes and heroines in these novels, have been genetically, physically and psychologically enhanced and controlled to varying degrees, making them in many ways superhuman. But, just as in the movie Robocop, they didn't bargain for any of this. They were, for the most part, abducted as children or teens and became unwilling participants in the torturous process, turned into cyborgs to become super-soldiers for Obsidian, a secret and nefarious group of depraved megalomaniacs. There'd been a rebellion at the Midlands facility where their enhancements/torture took place, and some of these damaged, tortured souls fought for and gained their freedom, but the search to reclaim the Midland Rebels is still ongoing.

The hero in the preceding novel was Zade, who was actively searching for his missing brother, Luke, both had been abducted, and In My Skin is Luke's story. When we first meet him he only knows his first name--during his recent year-long recapture/torture/enhancement, he built impenetrable mental walls and blocked off his memories to keep those he loved and cared about safe, but now that he's free, although being actively hunted, he needs his memories back but so far has been unable to retrieve them.

The heroine in this story is Daniela (Dani) LaSalle, a nurse in California who grew up in the system and on the streets without family, and with only one close friend, Naldo, who disappeared years ago and hasn't been seen since, but that's about to change when one night, while relaxing at home, she answers a knock on her door, and into her home falls Naldo, broken and bleeding and not making much sense as he tries to explain what his life has been like while bleeding to death in Dani's living room. He's covered with scars and with his last breath hands Dani a capsule that he's dug out of his own chest. This connection is what leads Luke into Dani's life, and from that point on, hang onto your hats, because this novel takes off like gangbusters and never lets up until the very end.

If you're new to this series, I strongly suggest you start at the beginning and read these novels in the order they were written because many of the characters in this novel and their experiences and interrelationships have already been established in the previous two novels, and will certainly enhance your enjoyment and make this one more comprehensible to you. The previous novels, Right Through Me and My Next Breath, are all groundbreaking and excellent reads, and this is one series you don't want to miss a minute of. One advance warning, there's graphic sex and violence in all three of these novels, so while I highly recommend it, it's definitely for mature readers.

I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Reviewed on my blog, Becky on Books, on 6/21/18.

OMG, this series. Kick-butt romantic suspense mixed with like whoa chemistry between characters who it's impossible not to fall for--I seriously hope Ms. McKenna continues with this series all the way through to Ivy's story (and since she's still clutching stuffed cats and watching cartoons, that'll give us a while to go... ;))

In My Skin is the third book in the series--Luke's story; Zade's brother (from My Next Breath --where his main goal was finding his brother again)--and though the focus here is on Luke and Dani, Zade and the others end up playing fairly big roles too. I wouldn't start with this one (and hey! Right Through Me is on sale right now, so you don't have to) but since I have read Zade's book I did just fine. A bunch of the science-y stuff and Obsidian/Manticore drama still felt a bit over my head, but honestly, that could likely still be the case after I read book one, so I didn't sweat it much. The suspense, the danger, and the characters are what draw me in, and they're all here in spades. I'm not even sure I was breathing for a few chapters there toward the end!

I loved, loved, loved Dani and Luke--even when they were about to make bad choices, Ms. McKenna made me believe they were making them from a good place. Their we-can't-control-ourselves-because-we're-so-sexy tendencies were a teensy bit over the top, but it's hard to argue with the results. I did love that Dani was able to hold her own (mostly) among some super-scary modded-out dudes (and one dudette) and that it was up to the non-super soldiers to do some of the heavy lifting at the end of the story. Please, please tell me that Zoe and Asa get a story soon? Please?

So if you like romantic suspense and super-sexy super soldiers sound like they might be your catnip, definitely give this series a try. I wouldn't start with this one--there's a lot of catching up to do if you do--but I'm warning you right now, it'll be next to impossible not to immediately pick up Luke's book once you finish Zade's. (And no waiting almost a year for you! I'm jealous...it was torture!)

Luke is a super-soldier, but he doesn't know much else about his life beyond that. He doesn't know whether he has family or can't remember what his last name is, but if there's one thing he does know it's that he'll do anything to protect the innocent. So, when Dani LaSalle becomes a target of the people he's determined to take down and put a permanent end to, he decides to risk everything to keep her safe. Will Luke be able to protect Dani and put an end to the people he's after once and for all or will the pair lose their shot at happy ever after?

This is the first book I've read by Ms. McKenna, and although I wished I'd read the previous books of this series, this book can be read as a stand-alone. Really, and everything about this book -- the confident and protective super-soldier hero; the feisty and resilient heroine; the thrilling plot that entertained me with it's action-packed suspense; and the riveting dialogue -- made this story an absolute page turner that I found impossible to put down.

With the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, as both have been through tough times. Their childhoods weren't the easiest, but I liked how they've come out the tougher for everything they've been through. Moreover, the heroine is resilient, courageous, has serious trust issues and I could understand why she makes the decisions she does, even if they are reckless. Will she be able to put her trust in Luke? Will she help him with anything he asks of her, especially when she owes him so much? While the hero, he's confident and I liked how determined he was to protect the heroine, even though it seems he should give up on Dani since she doesn't trust him no matter how many times he proves she can trust him. I also liked how determined he was to get his memories back no matter the risk to him. Will he uncover the things he desperately wants to know?

Overall, Ms. McKenna has delivered an incredible read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was off-the-charts; the sizzling romance heated up the pages and showed how good these two are together; and the ending had me on the edge-of-my-seat with worry for the main characters, but had me liking that the heroine finally realized how much Luke meant to her. I would recommend In My Skin by Shannon McKenna, if you enjoy paranormal romance, romantic suspense or books by authors Lara Adrian, Cara Carnes, Cynthia Eden and Rebecca Zanetti.

Finding a good romantic suspense is far harder that you would expect given the wide choice there now is since the advent of eBooks and self publishing, sadly more quantity than quality. However, rising above this sea of mediocrity is The Obsidian Series by Shannon McKenna; a fabulous blend of ingredients - thriller with intrigue and suspense, sci-fi with a dash of paranormal, romance, action, hotness and sex - this series has it all and does it well.

For me personally, I would recommend reading all three, and in order, rather than treat them as standalone as it would be a shame to miss the complexities, the background, the jargon and would help you catch little nuances that will enhance the understanding as you delve deeper into the world Ms McKenna creates.

The third book, In My Skin, hits the ground running and doesn’t stop; the pace fast and furious as the author effortlessly weaves the intrigue and suspense with her trademark hot and steamy. We have already heard of Luke in the previous books and his story was always going to be hard to read with almost a horror element to it. Dani is a new character, sassy and strong as so many of Ms McKenna’s are, no weepy simpering 'too stupid to live' heroines that annoy and detract from a good book even when a strong alpha hero is involved, her leads are always more balanced, both bringing different strengths that compliment. The chemistry between Luke and Dani is so hot it’s almost tangible, you will be breathless for a number of reasons! As with the McCloud brothers books, characters we have met previously show up throughout, allowing us to catch up with them, see how time is developing their relationship and all three books show a strong sense of family - both of blood and choice - the need to protect, to nurture, to love are all shown beautifully. There is banter that will make you laugh, selflessness that will leave you not sure whether you want to hug or slap the characters involved and, overall, a fierce need to know what happens next?

I have so many questions, none of which I am going to write here as they would give away too much of the plot and character development, plus why read a suspense book if you have already been given half the story in a review?!!

This is the third book in Shannon McKenna’s Obsidian Files Series.

Years ago The Obsidian Group preyed on street kids, using them to implant their high tech sensory processors and turning them into genetically enhanced humans. Luke Ryan is the oldest of the Ryan brothers who were kidnapped as children and put into the group’s experimental program. Now, he just knows his first name is Luke and that he has been modified with brain implants. In an effort to protect himself, he wiped his memory clean. After he escapes his captors, he needs to get his memory back but it won’t be easy.

Daniela “Dani” LaSalle is a nurse who grew up in group homes and on the streets, having but one friend, Naldo. Suddenly, after six years, he shows up on her doorstep with a gaping knife wound and a secret. As she tries to help him, a small metal container falls from the wound and in his dying breath, he asks her to help someone named Ivy and warns her that he has put her life in danger.

Luke followed Naldo to Dani’s house knowing the capsule held important information and he needs to get it. But he’s not the only one. Sparks fly when Luke meets Dani, at first complicating his mission but he soon realizes she’s more than just sexy, she’s smart as well and he needs her help. What follows is an intense, action-filled story you won’t forget.

All of Shannon McKenna’s books are well written and keep the reader’s attention throughout. This series has a little of everything to make it a great read. Lots of action, well defined characters, a touch of sci-fi/paranormal and an intriguing storyline.

My only issue, and maybe it’s just me, but with so many characters, I get confused about who the bad guys are and who the good guys are. I have to make sure to highlight some names so I can go back and check to see how they fit into the story.

I’ve been a fan of Shannon McKenna’s work since the McCloud Brothers days when I fell in love with Seth. I highly recommend reading In My Skin as well as all her previous books.

Luke Ryan is a little different from most people. But being unique works to his advantage. Daniela “Dani” LaSalle gets put into something that would make a great SyFy series. She’s a brave woman but a little confused about what’s going on. There’s plenty of action and it starts right from the beginning.

I’m afraid that Luke’s story doesn’t start here. It actually stars with the book titled My Next Breath – at least as to how he got here. If you haven’t read it yet, you may want to start that book first because that’s the book that introduces the reader to his brother. And you’ll see as you read this book that his brother makes an appearance. You don’t really have to but at least for me it makes sense. At the very least read the book’s blurb first before you decide.

This story was very addictive. Once I started reading I got hooked very quickly. We have people who have been altered but the author has made it all seem so believable. Makes you wonder about strangers you walk by on the street. Can you imagine walking by Luke and not even realizing how special he is? This just shows you how creative our author is – when you can take something unbelievable and make it possible.

Besides the chemistry Luke and Dani have, there seems to be some pushing of buttons. This just softens some of the more serious moments – you may find it hard not to chuckle. It’s a sweet mix of romantic suspense and the paranormal. Dani will have you wondering what would you do if you were in her shoes. I didn’t get any sense of an ending. I see the happy but I felt as if there are still things to come. They both had me realize that I would read this more than once especially if I want to keep up with the series – at some point I see a marathon in my future.

I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

The wait is almost over for the next installment in Shannon McKenna’s amazing Obsidian Files series! In My Skin is Luke’s story—at long last. Once again, McKenna does an amazing job of melding nonstop pulse-pounding suspense with some of the hottest love scenes out there. Her world of enhanced supersoldiers, ruthless corporate malfeasance, and cutting edge bio-technology/medical interfacing parallels real-world headlines in frighteningly coincidental ways.

Luke has escaped Obsidian, but his memories are trapped behind a self-imposed wall. He’s on the run, trying to stay alive long enough to stop a shipment of hazardous technology—and reclaim his identity. His latest lead takes him to nurse Dani LaSalle—unfortunately, his murderous opponents are close behind. He might have saved her life, but Dani’s having a hard time trusting the gorgeous injured intruder who ripped her from her home in the middle of the night...leaving an ever-growing stack of bodies in his wake.

The patchwork family formed by the Midlands Research Facility escapees has been mourning Luke’s capture for months and isn’t sure if the latest intel means he’s free or dead. Their determination to stop Obsidian and find Zade’s twin puts them on a collision course with the killers who are after Luke and Dani. Saving the world means making sacrifices, and this page-turner will keep you wondering if any of the Midlanders will live long enough for a joyful reunion.

McKenna does a marvelous job of continuing the storylines of the heroes and heroines from the earlier Obsidian File books in the tightly woven action of her ongoing series plot. You’ll fall in love with her characters, heat up with the steamy sex, and be mesmerized by the complex world she creates. The best thing about the latest Shannon McKenna book going on sale? You know that means she’s already hard at work on the next one!

Luke is an enhanced super soldier, who has escaped Obsidian to go on the run. And in order to protect everyone he loves & himself, he's put a block on his brain, so they can't find him or his loves ones, but the drawback is that he can't remember anything either. He's supposed to be stopping an Obsidian courier with big info, who has a chip in their body. That courier is Naldo, who was Daniela LaSalle's best friend, but she hasn't seen for years, but lands on her doorstep with a mortal wound in his chest. Now Dani is smack dab in the middle, and Luke has to keep her safe. I know my descriptions seems a bit simple but this is a fast paced, but lengthy story that has a LOT more details to it, I just choose not to give them all a way. Trust me, you will thank me once you experience the exciting ride! It's action packed, filled with f-bomb dropping worthy twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. And in between all the heart racing goodness, Dani & Luke had some serious chemistry that eventually led to sexy times that lit the sheets up! Of course it took some time in between being on the run, and Dani deciding if she could trust him & all, but shorter than your average romance novel, with the whole adrenaline thing going on, and not knowing if you're going to live day to day. So yeah, I'll have to reiterate the whole exciting part again. Shannon McKenna's talented writing style has really worked it's way onto my addiction list, as her stories are addictive, with characters that are complicated, yet amazingly awesome with flaws, so they come off realistic. I LOVED this story, and hope there's more in this exciting series! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

In My Skin is a powerful, action-packed book that will keep you at the edge of your sit.

Luke is a super soldier, with brain implants and lots of habilities, but to protect those he loves, he had to burned and walled all of his memories and now he can’t get them back.
Dani is a nurse. She lives a quiet life, sometimes lonely but content until his childhood friend comes crashing through her door, dying and puts her in danger.
When Luke sees Dani, he’s determined to protect her, even when that can cost him his life.

In My Skin is the third book in the series and they have to be read in order to fully understand the story. This picks up a bit after the last book.

Luke is such a great character! He’s a big protective guy, sometimes a bit overwhelming but he always tries to keep Dani safe and happy. Even when is not easy.
Dani surprised me. She’s strong and resilient. All the things she discovers during this book, and everything she goes through and she stills keep going.

The chemestry between the two main characters is off the charts! They can burn up the pages in an instant and I think the fast phisical connection with the slower emotional one was a great combo.
The action never stops. Luke and Dani are running from page one and the author manages to keep the reader ingaged and interested in everything while wondering if they will make it.

In My Skin is a great addition to the series, we get more glimpses at the group and how they work together, we lear more of their past and see what they are fighting against. I really enjoyed the look we got at the slave soldiers and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

In My Skin is the third book in The Obsidian Files series, and we catch up with Luke who was kidnapped in book one. He managed to escape by himself, but is so very alone, as he can't remember who he is, or who he needs to contact. This was done deliberately to ensure that the 'bad guys' couldn't get any information from him, but it's left him in a bit of a bind. He has a plan to put it right though, which lands him firmly by Dani's side.

The majority of the book is dedicated to Luke and Dani, with the others only appearing briefly. However, they are all together at the ending. Luke is a wonderful combination of being literal, being naive, and being strong alpha-male. Dani is, for the most part, a strong and sassy heroine with her own issues, but I also found her annoying at times. There were times when they SHOULD have talked about things, but instead, they had sex. Lots of sex (although I don't think as much as Noah and Caro did, so that was one bonus).

The story was well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. I enjoyed the pacing, and the transitions from one scene to the next were smooth. Not everyone gets a happy ending, although I am hoping for a miracle! Hopefully I will find out in a later book.

If you want a contemporary, science-fiction romance, then I can definitely recommend this.

In My Skin is Shannon Mckenna’s latest release. It is the third book in the Obsidian Files and does not disappoint. Readers of Mckenna’s will find that she has not let up on the high stakes nor the emotional potency. In My Skin is a read that starts with a bang and has unceasing intensity.

The book begins with Luke, an enhanced super soldier who has just escaped months of torture and captivity. In his escape, he was forced to block out his memories. Memories he knows he can’t regain on his own. He will risk anything to get answers. So he begins a mission against the powerful forces responsible.

Enter Dani, a tough-as-nails nurse, who is drawn into the plot against her knowledge. An old friend--Naldo, who she hasn’t seen or heard from in years--turns up gravely wounded at her door. He is fading fast--but warns Dani he has put her in danger and to beware.

Still reeling from her friend’s appearance--Dani is accosted again--by Luke. He saves her from a brutal attack and warns her the danger has only just begun. That she is an unknowing participant in a situation more perilous than she can imagine. But how can she trust in something so impossible?

This is a nail-biting read that leaves you wanting more. Fans of paranormal/sci-fi thrillers or romantic suspense will not be dissatisfied.

Original review: https://myshelfbooks.wordpress.com/20...

Romantic Suspense, Cyborgs: The Obsidian Files is a saga about a bunch of rogue cyborgs that go against the company that created them. It has really good foundations that are displayed in every book of the saga. Nice plot, interesting villains (although a bit repetitive) and enjoyable action scenes. It is pretty obvious the author feels comfortable writing about gun fights, car chases and all the other flavours of the genre. So… why doesn’t she expends more time on them? This third books ends pretty well, but more than the first half is rather… boring.

zZz: The story takes too long to take flight, dragging the plot through situations that lacked emotion and interest. The same problem happend with the second book, so it saddens me a little bit that it doesn’t try to change the course.

Love?: But the worst part of this third story is the romance. Luke and Dani main dynamic during most part of the story is a sexual inferno followed by a deep dive into a frozen lake. The constant contrasts in their relationship annoyed me quite a bit and I was unable to forge any kind of connection with the couple. That is why I find rather unbelievable their love relationship. I even dare to say that their friendship feels far-fetched, too…

This Book, in true Shannon McKenna fashion, is amazing. Shannon is truly an amazing author, her writing is so good you get absorbed into the book, in the best way possible. Suspense, action, family, love and of course some heat thrown in there. While you can absolutely read this as a stand alone, it does make a bit more sense when read in the order of the series (which I highly reccomend, they are just as awesome too). The main characters are Luck and Dani (short for Daniela). Luke has a sort of forced amnesia and when he first meets Dani he is saving her life, which is exciting in itself the way Luke goes about it. From there the two work together to get Luke's memories back. This in itself is dangerous, not to mention the fact that there is a group of people trying to find and kill them. Oh and let's not forget they are trying to save a kidnapped little girl. Dani fights her feelings for Luke at first but Luke knows what he wants and definitely goes after Dani's heart. This book is my favorite so far in the Obsidian Files series, but knowing Shannon there is definatley more like this to come! Can't wait for the next installment!!!

Let me start by saying that I am a long time Shannon McKenna fan. I have been reading her books since the beginning and I am so glad that she is still writing romantic suspense. The Obisidian File books stand alone however there is an ongoing storyline that makes it necessary to read the books in order to enjoy them to their fullest. In My Skin picks up right where My Next Breath left off. We are finally able to connect with Luke Ryan, Zade's brother and find out not only that he survived but how. Luke's story will bring him in contact with Dani LaSalle, a California nurse that has been living an ordinary life and has no idea of the kinds of evil that exist in the world around her. These two have a connection that neither one was aware of and not sure if they are willing to accept what fate has sent their way. If I tell you any more about the story I will ruin it but I will say that In My Skin is excellent romantic suspense with a paranormal twist. It's told from multiple POV and will not only keep you hooked but wanting to see what happens next with these Midlands rebels!

This is the book I have been dying for! OMW! I have wanted this book since I read the first book Right Through Me. Can I just say I loved it hard? Luke is almost childlike in some of his reactions, I guess because of the amnesia he is facing. And then he is so hot and alpha in others. The story progresses at a fast pace but not too fast to enjoy the details. This book opens the door wide for several new books and I am fervently eager for Asa and Brenner's stories! I seriously need them.

This series is my new obsession and I feel no guilt wanting to dive into more and more. As I said with the second book this book really needs to be read in order so each character and situation can build the story for you as it has for me. The characters are complex and feel unbelievably real. Each book seems to amplify this as well as the vivid descriptions that make me feel like a part of the story. I am highly invested in these characters and I can't wait for the next book! I very highly recommend this book and this series.

In My Skin was the action packed story of how two great people get thrown together by evil shadowy corporation circumstances and fall in love. It was a delight and reading it gave me the same satisfaction some of my favorite McCloud stories did.

The hero, Luke, was a real stand out. He's the kind of perfect romance novel hero (if you don't count freaky superpowers earned from a tortured past as a con) that quickly realizes he falls for the heroine and proceeds to take every opportunity to display his love and devotion in both sexy and heroic ways.

The heroine, Dani, is the kind of strong heroine that takes part in the action in smart, not tstl, ways. Her character is portrayed as a really empathetic do-gooder, which is nice. She has sort of realistic reactions to all the craziness that kicks off from pretty much the first moment of the book, so as a reader you can relate to her.

All in all, reading about these two great people getting together will give you those melt-y romance feelings and the almost non-stop action will keep you turning the page. Recommend.

When Dani discovers her missing friend, Naldo, on her back porch bleeding to death, she is drawn into the world of enhanced humans bred to be supersoldiers. Before Naldo is taken to the hospital, he pleads with Dani to help Ivy, but Dani doesn't know who Ivy is. After Naldo's death, Dani is attacked in her home, but is saved by the mysterious Luke. She doesn't believe his tale of enhancements until she is on the run and sees them in use. Luke agrees to help Dani find Ivy if she will help him find the memories that he has blocked from his conscious mind in order to protect those he left behind.
In My Skin, is another good Osbsidian Files story. Many characters from the two previous stories are back as Luke's brother, Zade, desperately tries to find him. The romance between Dani and Luke is interwoven in a story that seems to come straight out of a comic book. The only problem I have with this story is how quickly and easily Dani seems to accept that she is going to be forever on the run and will never have a normal life. Otherwise, I enjoyed this romantic fantasy.

Luke is a super soldier who was locked up and tested for a year. He has some really bad guys after him and they follow him to Dani. Dani is a nurse and when her friend shows up half dead, she’ll do anything to help him. He leaves her with a chip and the crazy scientists want it. She and Luke are on the run and have no one to turn to because his memories are blocked. The only way to get them back is to shock a part of his brain. Once they come back, anyone enhanced like him can get the information. When they are captured, they want to paralyze Luke, kill his brother, and kill Dani. Dani escapes and will do anything to save Luke and Zade.
Fast paced, wildly addictive, action packed, supremely sexy, and it will have you reading into the night. I just don’t know how to describe it without giving anything away. If read any of Mrs. McKenna before then you know she will have you at the edge of your seat.

There’s nothing I love more than conflict and sexual tension between a hero and a heroine, especially when strange circumstances have intertwined their lives. I love the dynamic between Dani and Luke, both strong, stubborn types with big hearts. McKenna is the Queen of Character-Building. I have fallen in love with every character she’s written into existence. This is the third book in The Obsidian Files series where Luke has escaped the clutches of Obsidian and is desperately trying to recall the memories from his self-induced amnesia before he’s captured again. Meanwhile, his brother Zade and the rest of the Midlander rebels are searching for him, and the solution to his problem lies in the sexy vixen Dani LaSalle – quite literally. You know it’s a good book when you’re up all night reading and can’t put it down. In My Skin is full action from beginning to end, so if that’s your thing, you’ll definitely enjoy this book.

Once again Ms. McKenna has created a masterful new story in her “we love alpha males” kind a way! Unfortunately I was unable to get to the last book, so when she asked if I would read In My Skin, I jumped at the chance. Don’t worry this book can stand on its own; although it is fun to follow along with the arc of each story and the build up of characters along the way. I fell in love with her McCloud brothers first, but since Ms. McKenna has moved into the paranormal realm I have adapted easily. She creates such a vivid story with quick moving parts and of course the best is the amazing characters. Let’s be honest what attracts us to the story is an awesome male, but it is the depth of a good female that keeps us reading. In My Skin has two amazing characters that gives us a story of redemption and finding one self along the way to falling in love. Thank you for a brilliant story!

I really enjoyed Shannon McKenna's third book in The Obsidian Files series, In My Skin and just like the previous two books, this one too started strong and kept me engaged throughout.

A perfect mix of thriller, mystery, high octane romance and strong characters, I was intrigued, pulled in the story and kept glued to my seat until the very end.

A hero who doesn't remember his life and a heroine who is headstrong and almost sure that the hero with his weird tales of experiments, supersoldiers, and assassins is mad, I loved the protagonists and am so looking forward to the next book in this supercharged, must-read series.

4.5 stars out of 5 to In My Skin by Shannon McKenna and Njkinny recommends this book and series to all romantic suspense lovers above the age of eighteen.

This thrilling and sexy series just keeps getting better and better! This book picks up with Luke on the run after his daring escape from his torturous capture. Being a super soldier, he was able to block his mind to stop Braxton from learning about the rest of his family. Unfortunately his memory is buried so deep he can't remember who he was protecting. As he works to find a way to bring his memory back, ER nurse Daniela gets caught in the middle. she unknowingly has something both Luke and the evil people at Obsidian all want. Now it's a race to stay alive as Luke convinces the courageous, sexy nurse to trust and help him get his memory back. I really loved how strong Daniela is, a true warrior in her own way and so perfect for Luke! I also loved the fun, witty banter between everyone, especially Asa and Zoe, I hope their book is next! Ms. McKenna is a genius at creating the best heart pounding stories with strong, alluring characters, the hottest love/sex scenes and the most evil villains! There are many twists and turns in this fast paced story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The secondary characters are all fascinating as well, their banter is fun and their loyalty and support makes me want to know more about them all. This is a wonderful and exhilarating series and I can't wait for more!
