In an underwater empire ruled by a vengeful king and populated by a race filled with hatred for all things human, can Kailani survive long enough to rescue her parents and escape the city?
With unlikely allies by her side, Kai fights to survive. To return to land with both her parents. To return to the loving arms of her soul mate.
Resurfaced is the follow-up to Suppressed, and continues Kai and Bryce’s story. Filled with action, magic and romance, lovers of The Little Mermaid and Beautiful Creatures will enjoy this series.
Wendi Wilson is a mother to two rambunctious boys, a fat black cat, two ferrets, and a pup named Izzy. She spends her time watching her boys play baseball and football, volunteering at school, reading and writing.
She enjoys reading YA paranormal romance, NA romance, and dystopian novels. Her first book, Shadowed Strength, is the culmination of 20+ years of work, a dream finally realized.
I very much enjoyed Resurfaced - it was great spending time with Kai and Bryce again. This installment takes the reader under the sea, to the enchanting kingdom of the mer people. I loved the romance, the action and the resolution to this fun series. Definitely recommend this book and the series, especially if you're a fan of The Little Mermaid or even mermaids in general.
*** I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the author.***
Resurfaced started right where Suppressed left off where Kai is told by a merman that her parents will be killed if she doesn't sacrifice herself for them. This one starts with her trying to run off before Bryce and his parents can do the spell to turn her into a part-time mermaid where she can live on land so she won't keep getting sick while on land. Bryce stops her and both of them are changed by the spell. Bryce and Kai are soul mates and he would do anything for her so he agrees to go to Delmare, the Mer's underwater kingdom, with her to help Kai free her parents. The first few chapters lead up to their departure. I thought it was interesting that now Kai and Bryce can communicate telepathically. That would make things easier and convenient when they turn themselves into merpeople. Eventually, Kai and Bryce are escorted to Delmare with Adrian, one of the king's guards and things get interesting from there. I do not want to give spoilers so I'm not going to say what happened but I will say that the author did a good job with this The Little Mermaid retelling. It was action packed and had just the right amount of romance.
I still enjoyed Bryce and Kai a lot. They were adorable together and their chemistry still sizzled off the pages. I liked the added characters of Adrian, the king, and some new villains. It was nice learning why the Mer hated humans so much. I loved Bryce's parents and finally getting to meet Kai's father, Dante and see her mother more in this novel. The family dynamics were amazing and they brought something more to the story. I loved how it ended and how everything worked out for Kai and Bryce and their family and friends. I really enjoyed this series and recommend giving it a try if you liked The Little Mermaid.
An outstanding story of Kai the Mermaid. She travels to an underworld empire, trying to save her family. This is the first type of story like this that I have read and can’t get enough. Received a free copy.
I absolutely loved this and couldn't put it down! It did a great job of advancing the previous story while also giving the reader closure on the duology. It was well written and the characters are very multi-dimensional and well thought out. As a retelling, I enjoyed how the author wove bits of the original into the story while still maintaining her own unique tale. I definitely recommend this series and think it's a must-read, especially for those who like fairy tale retellings.
I received an advanced copy from the author. I voluntarily chose to review it and all thoughts and opinions expressed above are my own.
I loved the re-telling of The Little Mermaid in this two part series of books. So many cute and giggle-worthy parts made this a fun read, along with the necessary yet sometimes unexpected twists and turns that kept it exciting. Any fan of the movie will smile to their self when recognizing different parts, such as the cave of human treasures, the eels, and the stealing of the voice. Really cute idea with great execution.
Great Book I love this book it was a great book and powerful I think that you will find out that this is good and powerful I read 1,2 Both 1,2 were great I love this book Thank You For Letting Me Read This Book I love it
This is a great second part to the story and takes place right after the first book. Kai and Bryce's relationships is so special. It was a great reading experience to be introduced to this new world. It has a great pace that keeps your interest and makes you want to read it straight thru to the end.
So excited to read the conclusion of Kai and Bryce’s story and be introduced to some new interesting characters. Maybe Adrian and Ana’s story will be next.
I received a free arc for an honest review. I was captivated by the first book in this series and couldn't wait to read this one. My anticipation was justified. Kai and Bryce's love became stronger as did the connection they share. I finally get to meet Kai's father, Dante. The love he shares for her mother, Merryn, seems to be just as strong as her love for Bryce. There was a twist that left me gobsmacked. I am sad that the story is over but it was wonderful while it lasted. If you love merfolk and true love, then you're sure to love this series. I would recommend it heartily to anyone!
Loved this second book in the series! I couldn’t put it down and was so happy to see how Kailani and Bryce were together. I really enjoyed all the characters and their impact on the story, including some welcomed twists and turns. It was an easy, fun read that I’ve been looking forward to for awhile. If you enjoyed Suppressed, you are sure to also enjoy Resurfaced!!
This is just one of the most fantastic sequels to a book that I think I've ever read. It picks up right at the end of Suppressed and jumps right into the action. The relationship between Bryce and Kai is fun to read, entertaining, and age appropriate in every way. This series is not only a must read for fans of The Little Mermaid but for fans of YA paranormal as well. I really loved this.
Resurfaced is a charming conclusion to a series that had heart, excitement and adventure and it just so happened to remind me of one of my favorite childhood stories.
I am starting to like mermaid stories, Resurfaced is the second book in the Suppressed duology by Wendi Wilson and the third mermaid book I have ever read. The story was amazing and I am so happy that I gave it a chance.
Resurfaced started right-off where Suppressed ended, with Kai, Bryce, Celine and Bran on the beach after a merman came to summon Kai to the underwater kingdom of Delmare where she is to meet her punishment for being born half-mer, half-human. Bryce and Kai, with help from his parents come up with a plan to help rescue Kai's mom and kick off an underwater adventure. With the witches help Bryce gets a tail and then from there Kai and Bryce enter an underwater world where being human, even half-human can be dangerous. In Delmare the hatred of humans has grown out of control and others have been punished for crimes involving humans, Delmare holds a lot of secrets and it looks like Kai is about to discovery some of them.
In the short amount of time Kailani has grown. When she started off, things just sorted of happened to her and Kai didn't have the skills to deal with the problem and fight back but after going through so much and with the people who support her on-the-line, Kai has finally stepped up and her courage has grown. She has more of a stay calm and try to get out of the situation type of personality and it's nice to see her take charge in that kind of way.
Kai has the support of Bryce and I love that about them. They are soul-mates and so totally in love but the fact that Bryce is so understanding of Kai and he makes sure that they are communicating properly, that meanings are getting through. They are really good together and I love the whole soul-mates storyline, that gets me every time, to know that a person is so perfectly suited for you and to know that it's an unending love. I am sucker for that type of love, just as long as it has some type of supernatural element then I am so in.
Resurface was paced very well and I loved every moment of it. There was shocks, plot twists, incredibly adorable moments between the characters and most of all it was a new refreshing story while having some of the familiar elements from a classic tale. While the Suppressed duology is not necessarily a Little Mermaid retelling it does have somethings that will totally remind you of the story and I like the fact that Wendi wasn't trying to remake the story but make it remind you of it. It was like going back to my childhood and if you were a Disney kid then you know the Little Mermaid and you would have to remember at least a few of the most memorable scenes. This series was the first I have read by Wendi Wilson and I am absolutely looking forward to reading more from this author.
I loved the conclusion. It had all the feels and a HEA. Plus it was clean. Definitely heavy kissing and even thoughts to go further but they never did which suits me fine. Definitely a story I would recommend to teens and adults who love mermaid stories
Even though this was a sequel I liked it even more then the first one. There was more action in this one and it wasn't entirely based of of romance. The first book was more centered about romance and the myths, but the second one was more action and really living the myth to say it the least. You got the see more about Kai's story and family and a lot of questions got answered for me in this book.
Here I go again but the extra character added in this book was really adorable!
Even though this was described (on my kindle) as a little mermaid retelling, I really enjoyed it. Let me say that I'm not a fan of the little mermaid for many reasons. But the retelling was really great. I did feel little mermaid vibes but it wasn't annoying. I actually loved the story way better then the little mermaid one.
After reading Suppressed, I knew I had to dive into this book ASAP. However, Resurfaced feels more like the second half of Suppressed than an actual sequel, picking right up at the cliffhanger ending, with just about everything still up in the air. Unlike the first half, this installment mostly takes place in the mermaid realm of Delmare. I ended up reading this in a single day like I did the first half and couldn’t pull it down as the story through it’s many twists and turns.
I have to complement Wilson on her detailed mermaid transformations, among other descriptions that made the mermaids feel almost real. Thanks partially to the setting, it was a bit harder to visualize the sea, but it was still vivid and crisp and I didn’t get lost. The emotions are more intense here, mostly because of the growing nature of Kai and Bryce’s relationship and the situation they find themselves in now.
I can relate to nearly all of the characters, especially Kai and Bryce, as their relationship intensifies throughout this installment and leads to some interesting interactions later in the story. Kai’s family and past has a lot of focus and their backstory moved me quite a bit. There’s quite a few other characters that surprised me as the story continued, but I don’t want to spoil here.
Really enjoyed the end of this Little Mermaid inspired tale, though I highly recommend reading Suppressed first because of the way the two books connect together. Still holding out for a true sequel with Kai and Bryce and the rest of their friends and family.
