Both Samantha Lucas and Clayton Burrows were burned by previous marriages. both were attracted to each other but never acted on those feelings until they just could not resist anymore. Sam was afraid that she'd fall for someone who would just leave her again. Clay knew when he first met Sam that she was the one for him. Besides bing his neighbor and co-worker, his daughter, Addison just loved her and everyone could see the love they had for each other but them.
Both of their exes were a piece of work. Ian, Sam's ex had his nerves to make the request he did, especially how he left her. Diana, Clay's ex had her nerves wanting to insert herself back into Addison and Clay's life after being gone for years.
This story was a quick easy read. However there were some unsettled issues that was not fully explained. Why did Diana really come back\? There was an inference to their being an undercover reason that was not explained. Also, Ian and Moria's attempts at settling their suite was hinted that they were not giving up on getting what they wanted from Sam. I just feel that the story ended too abruptly with some more detailed explaining to do.
Clay and Samanthas' story is intense. They both had so much baggage and I thought that it would be too much to overcome in this book. I'd forgotten it said Book 1. And where did this author dream up Ian & Diane? They are two of the worst characters I've ever come across in this genre. Incredibly selfish, deliberately obtuse...I just shook my head and laughed out loud at their antics. Gotta laugh to keep from crying! 😂 The book held my interest and I'm so glad I got it.
Never too late. I enjoyed this older lover's romance story. It shows that there is no age for love. Samantha has her issues but realizes she doesn't have to handle them alone when you find the right man to help you through it. She finds a strong and loving man that has been by her side all along for years giving her support. All she had to do was give him the chance. Clayton, Samantha's boss, finally steps in to help get her ex-husband off her back and announces his love for her. This was a good read! *** I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book.
