Someone is abducting and killing the abused women that Cassie works with, and it all seems to be aimed at hurting her. The police are stymied and can't find any leads, but Cassie is too stubborn to let this monster win. With the help of her FWB, Dex, she learns some things the police don't know, but that she can't reveal without getting herself into serious trouble.
After five women have gone missing, Cassie manages to identify the type of woman the perpetrator goes after, and decides to set a trap of her own for him. Using the prosthetic mask that makes her look almost normal, she uses herself as bait, but this is a man who is highly skilled at abducting his victims. Despite all her precautions, Cassie ends up having to depend only on herself if she has any hope of survival, let alone saving the lives of his other victims.
Cassie is a survivor, however, and doesn't know how to give up. This guy may be a serial killer, but he's never had to deal with the likes of Cassie McGraw.

David Archer was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. He is a fiction author and novelist, writing in the mysteries and thrillers genre. His approach to writing is to hit deep, keep you entertained, and leave you wanting MORE with every turn of the page. He writes mysteries, thrillers, and suspense novels, all of which are primed to get your heart pumping.
I have mixed feelings on this book and book 1. The premise is good and the underlying mysteries are great. My problem is the main character constantly putting herself down, calling herself a monster, ugly, or wanting to be one of the zombies on the Walking dead because she would fit in because of her burn scars. I think at times the author just went too far with cramming it down the readers throat that the MFC had these horrible scars. Instead of showing the strength with within her that allowed her to move on and create a fantastic life, despite the stares and trauma, we get …. That 🙄🙄🙄🙄
Such a horrific story line that gripped you right off the bat. It is a little hard to envision Cassie and then find someone can get past her disfigurement in a romantic way. Maybe Dex should be less handsome. Maybe because most men couldn't do it let alone be the one doing the pursuing of the relationship. Nice to think but hard to imagine. Especially when people are discribed as screaming and running away as they see her. Otherwise a fast paced ,gripping book about a disturbing topic of abduction of a segment of our population that has been under served by society over the years. Battered women are there and abused beyond belief in our society and do need an enormous amount of help because many of them are not strong enough to help themselves.
Cassie is survivor and in turn volunteers to help other abused women . The author does not delve into the very bleak reality of abuse but does touch on the all too real marginalization of these women . When women begin to disappear the police make the assumption they have "run off" Cassie on the other hand has serious doubts and sets out to try to bring these women safely home . An unusual heroine which made for an excellent read I would however have liked a more realistic depiction of spousal abuse/murder
David Archer must have more hours in a day than we have since he keeps releasing a lot of books. This Cassie McGraw is a woman with a scarred face after her boyfriend tried to kill her. Now she works as a n abuse councilor and private eye. In this book she s after a serial killer targeting abused women. Well crafted story with great characters. Just as his Noah Wolfe series this is a fast paced action novel which reads like a movie. If you want to be entertained these are the books you can trust to make it happen
Cassie is now an established volunteer counsellor at the Outreach Center - and receives an odd call after work warning her that her work is not following God's strictures. This may be connected to a string of abductions of women receiving counselling - a view confirmed when a second call is received and a body is found. Cassie dives in to the investigation, aided by Dex and Alfie (and the police!)...
There is some minor repetition of information - tough that may be my impression caused by reading the books in quick succession... Fast moving and interesting to continue following Cassie's career and personal life. Reading on immediately, as there is a chunk of Book 3 added.
2nd story in The Cassie McGraw series. What a tense thriller. It was gripping throughout. Lots of developments in this book both in Cassie's personal life with Dex and in her role , not only as a volunteer at the crisis center for women at risk but in becoming a P.I. as well. Clients are being abducted and she has to go undercover.
Such an adrenaline rush throughout. I couldn't put the book down. Good to see Cassie's life coming together.
An Intense Sequel that leaves you Ready for Book 3!
Cassie has matured to the point she's helping other women. She does so well, she takes an odd side job that needs her special brand of looking at a case from unique perspective, finding leads that give the Police their only leads at all. She's well on her way to being her own licenses private she and she doesn't take prisoners...
Okay, yes, I wrote a couple of notes that irritated me throughout this book, but WOW! Just an exciting thriller from chapter to the next, but I love the Noah Wolf series and Sam Pritchard, so it's not hard to know this one is great as well! Cassie McGraw is a fighter in life both physically and emotionally and it all comes out in this one! A must read for sure!
I enjoyed this book more than book one. I enjoyed the subject matter very much. In this one there are two people kidnapping and killing women who have called into abuse hotlines. Cassie decides to set herself up as bait to catch them. I loved the humor and the growth of the characters. I an looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. Hopefully Mr. Archer will continue this series for quite a while.
I’m into the character and story line. Cassie is witty and she’ll say sassy things that take me by surprise and make me laugh.
I only give it 3 stars because I find the writing to be a little on the novice side. Characters repeat themselves a lot. Main character will randomly address the audience in her thoughts, and while it’s cute, it’s inconsistent with the way the rest of the story is written. With that being said, I’m eager to listen to the next book.
Absolutely amazing! The author conveyed the main character Cassie perfectly as a strong and independent woman with her own battles but put those aside selflessly to help others. I would have LOVED if the kidnapper was someone close to Cassie though like Dex or if it was someone her ex was friends with to come back from the first book! But the ending was still brilliant and I’ve really grown to enjoy this author!

I liked the second book much better than the first. Cassie has matured and is now helping other women in bad domestic situations. She didn't spend the whole book constantly self-deprecating. I liked the budding romance with Cassie and Dex. Cassie is a stronger female character. More action, suspense and a serial killer. What's not to like? I hope Cassie's character continues its growth in character, maturity and stability.
Cassie finds herself looking for serial killer. Women she has counciled are being kidnapped.. She has to find all of the women that have been kidnapped before something worse happens. If you have read Cassie s first book you have to read this one. It is as good as the first.
Typical DA book. Hard to put down at times. Cassie is an interesting character that you can identify in some ways because she's so normal at times, but not in the one big physical characteristic or disability she lives with each day. "Don't Fight Fate" was like an episode of one of Cassie's favorite TV shows, Criminal Minds, as she tracked down and taped a serial killer.
Cassie was a volunteer domestic abuse crisis worker.for only six months. Women she had seen, were now missing, then she is getting calls from the killer. She wants to stop the killer and soon investigating, and not keeping others informed. Mentioning she should get her PI license for has a way of looking at things out side the box. She keeps a love for Dex to herself until she sets a plan in place and hopes he will go along with it. Outside of the details of the abuse, was a good plot.
This is the second book in the series that I read and I am fascinated with the unusual characters. They are both survivors but their ordeal did not turn them into bitter people. They have found love in each other and for the people around them and continue to do what they can to help.
This is a different mystery novel! I really like this series and recommend it to you. Don't want to give it away but if you like stories of women detectives then this is for you. Go ahead read this book you won't regret it.
I am loving the adventures of Cassie McGraw. Cassie is a one of a kind woman who can survive anything. Thank you for introducing her to me!! Can't wait for her next adventure
Cassie tries to help abused women but sometimes they have tried to get help and not every one truly wants to help or can be trusted. Read about a few who got connected with the wrong help and Cassie tries to change that. Enjoy i did.
Well developed story and characters! Really like main character, determined, resourceful, will not give she just keeps pushing forward. Love her present personal life story line! Ready for book 3!!!! Keep them coming!!
Excellent books! Just finished books 1 and 2!! Loved them both, keeps you on the edge of your seat. Considering the subject matter they were extremely well written and enjoyable. Can't wait to read more from this author.
Storytelling at it's best! I love the pace of the story - things happen and it's not dragged out. Great characters with sweet, gentle romance and with the right amount of action and suspense. I can't wait to read/listen to more of David Archer's books. Narration was spot on.
Too much bad language . I do no understand why authors have to insert ungodly language to make a good read. Will not purchase any more from this author.
