I lost it all at the end of a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. One moment and everything changed. Life. Friendship. Passion. All gone. Months later - and the only thing I'm left fighting for is a reason to keep going. Until Faith walks right back into my life. Literally. Sun-kissed red hair, sparkling blue eyes and the same musical laugh that I fell for the first time. The girl I’ve never forgotten. One look reminds me of all those stolen moments together. One touch and I know giving them up was the worst mistake I ever made. We were too young, back then, with too many dreams to be tied down. Our small-town, high school romance wasn’t supposed to mean anything. But it did.
It can’t be the same between us. I’m a bit broken. She’s a bit lost. Those childhood dreams became difficult responsibilities. But when I’ve got her in my arms again? None of that seems to matter.
She says she’s only back for a week. But I’m never letting her go again.
Keeping Faith is a full, standalone romance with a hot Marine and a sexy-sweet heroine. No cheating or cliffhangers, and a Happily Ever After guaranteed. Includes a copy of Hard as bonus content!
Lara Swann writes hot, sexy romance with a touch of humor and a lot of passion. She has a thing for wounded alpha heroes and the fiery women who steal their hearts.
Her relationships are funny, sexy and spicy, and she gets as many thrills in pitting her characters against each other as she does when they eventually come together in an explosion of heat.
When she isn’t living in one of her many fantasy worlds, she attempts to focus on her respectable day job in a large, too-expensive city and dreams of a lake house in the country.

Faith and Carter were in high school together. They were interested in each other, and before Faith went off to college and Carter off to the Marine's they had a sweet night together. When Carter comes back after an IED caused him injury he's having a hard time with surviver's guilt. See, his best friend was riding next to him and didn't make it. Leaving behind a pregnant wife. He's trying to be the support that his best friend's family needs, but he's not doing well himself.
Faith comes back from Boston to give her sister a little help after having a baby. She runs into Carter while there and the sparks fly again. It doesn't take him long to realize Faith is who he needs, for many reasons. However, she likes the city and her job, he needs to country and open spaces. Can they make this second chance work....
This was a decent story. Some of the inner dialog was repetitive, which forced me to do some skimming.
What a fabulous, powerful, well written story. Heartwarming, tender, funny, sexy, romantic - I could go on and on with all ways to describe this storyline. And let’s not forget the characters! Kudos to the author for a job well done.
Second chances and sometimes third chances needed.
Keeping Faith was a very compelling book. I was pulled in from the very first page and it didn't let go until the very last page. This book is about a man named Carter who joined the Marines right out of high school and his high school sweetheart Faith who went to college to become a lawyer. Faith never made a lawyer because she couldn't pass the tests, so she ended up in Boston as a paralegal and didn't make it back home very often. Nine long years later, and they haven't seen or heard from each other in that many years. Fate has a way about it though. One evening Faith is in town to meet her new nephew and she has told her sister, Rose that she will run up to the corner store and buy some diapers and special for Rose she will get some Mac and Cheese, only because the whole time Rose was pregnant that's all she wanted to eat. While at the store, she basically did battle through a shelf with an unknown person, over the last box of Mac and Cheese. The whole time, she was talking like a lunatic to this unknown person, and they wound up meeting at the end of the isle. Her still talking crazy and his was just laughing, not knowing who it was. When they were finally face to face, it was like coming home to both of them if you could just look into their eyes. Within the next couple of days they were talking like they were back in high school again, like they had never left each other's side. But they each had their own set of problems. Faith was battling the fact that she is pretty much burnt out on her own job and being told when she can and can't take time off to go home to see her parents and sister. Carter on the other hand is fighting a bad case of PTSD and not having the courage to even admit it, plus the fact that he had been injured while in the Marines. This makes it hard for the both of them to cope and then you add a long distance relationship. Do you think that they can make it and still function as a good working couple? Please pick up a cope of this book, or get in touch with me and I will let you borrow it. This is this first time I have read anything by Lara Swann, but after reading this book I don't think it will be the last. I enjoyed this book so much that I would recommend it to most of my friends.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book This book starts off on graduation night with Carter and Faith, They truly love each other but I felt that they loved each other enough to not say it so that the other could follow their dreams, sometimes you love someone enough to let them go, fast forward 8 years and OMG the way things have changed, Sometimes the dreams you have do not turn out exactly how you want. Take Carter who lost his best friend and lives with horrible guilt and Faith who was brilliant in their small but once she went to law school she realized that she was just average. Faith has hardly been back home since she left, even though she only lives a few hours away she is very busy as a paralegal. Carter has come back to his hometown broken but mentally and physically. When a chance encounter between them at the local grocery store brings them back together the sparks fly yet again. I loved their story, and the side story was amazing too. the only issue I had was that although there are multiple other characters we just did not get enough about them. We know Rosie's husbands name and that he is working out of town but not much more. We know she is Faith's younger sister and just had a baby (WHY is her husband not in town helping ) we know the issues with Faith's mom and dad but not much about them. We know that Carter's parents own a farm and sell to Faith's parents store. We know a small amount about Wyatt's parents, Felt I needed to know more about Wyatt, since he was so important to Carter. but over all the book was amazing!
I really loved this story! The characters were fantastic. Carter and Faith were really easy to like and connect to. Carter is back home after being injured overseas and having to watch his best friend die. He is dealing with his new limitations, what that means, and the fact that he survived over his best friend. He's trying to cope but months later is still struggling. Faith is back home for a visit to her family and starting to feel a little frustrated with the way her job/firm doesn't let her really have a vacation. It's one of the first times that she is actually feeling this frustration about it being work all the time. She has a new nephew and wants to be there as he's growing up. Faith and Carter have a random run in and it starts to bring the same connection they always had back. I loved how this book was written. It's not done at a fast pace, though things keep moving along and I never felt it was slow. But we really get to know the characters and what's going on with them. Everything feels completely natural in this second chance romance. Carter is dealing with some serious issues and I thought this was a good look at it and it definitely relates to real life. The sex is explicit and fits the characters and the story. It's not over the top in scenes or the quantity of it. It truly blends into the story. I really loved this characters and this story. It was a great read. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Carter and Faith were young sweethearts with the world at their feet. Carter joined the marines and Faith was going to go to law school. Now years later they meet up back in their hometown Carter is back from his last tour in the marines and Faith is back to see family. Faith is a paralegal instead of a lawyer but likes her job nonetheless. When she runs into Carter at a bbq her family was having things click back into place. Faith can see that Carter is struggling and wants to help but she's only home for a week and doesn't think they should start anything up. However after hanging out with him a few times things progress and they become lovers again. Things go wrong with her family grocery store and Faith's boss is demanding her back to work she's torn about what to do and ends up back at work. Not happy being there all she can think about is Carter and her family. Will Faith give up the life she has for a better one with Carter back in her hometown?
This was an emotional love story. Carter will have you wanting to cry on several occasions as he mourns the loss of his friend. Carter's and Faith's love is stronger and more stable the second time around. If you haven't read anything by this author then this book would make you a fast fan.
Carter and Faith, high school sweethearts, each others first in everything. Faith was the only girl for Carter from his childhood, she was girl he was in love with, but he never the word slip from him. They both had dreams he wants to be Mariner and she wants to be lawyer, Carter doesn't wanted to spoil it making the things complicated and Faith always thought that as a short term high school fling between them. Now after Nine years, they are back to their hometown, Oakland, things had changed, unable to fulfill their dreams, Carter returns with injury and death of his best friend Wyatt from Marines, Faith is a paralegal not a lawyer. Their chemistry is still present between them, Carter returned for good but Faith is only for week off from her job and Carter is not ready to let her go, this time, even if it is gonna be a long distance one. I voluntarily reviewing an advanced readers copy of this amazing book, Lara Swann as beautifully scripted this book, it delivers deep emotions and hot chemistry of the leads. The book starts is with passionate teenage romance which heats up with steamy hot romance on the due course. This book has everything family sentiment, friendship, love and hot romance. I loved it and could recommend to 18+.
I received an advanced copy and am leaving an honest review. Keeping Faith is a story of second chances. Carter is back in his hometown after being discharged from a roadside bombing while serving in the Marines. Faith is back home for a long overdue visit with her family. They shared a connection and lots of firsts before their lives took them in different directions but what about now? He's broken and trying to find his way. She's lost wondering how to make all the pieces of her life fit together. Carter believes there's a reason for their reunion and tries to prove to Faith that they are worth a try. She just can't let go of everything she thought she wanted when she was younger. While they both start to figure out that life doesn't always go as planned they are also realizing that dreams can change. And while change can be hard, it can also be a good thing.
I loved this story and felt the reality of it from the first page. Several times throughout this book I felt as if I was really with these characters, in the moment, feeling what they were feeling. My eyes teared several times and I had a couple of laughs too. The emotional pull is what keeps you turning the pages. Lara Swann's writing in this is praise worthy. I would recommend this book without hesitation.
I voluntarily received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book. Faith and Carter: A heart wrenching story of young lovers on the night of their high school graduation. Faith plans to go to college to become a lawyer and Carter plans on going into the military, the Marines. They have one more night of bliss and part ways. Nine years later Carter finds himself honorably discharged from the Marines with a limp and PTSD, grief that his best friend Wyatt did not make it and left behind a wife and a baby he never met, a mother and father and a teenage sister.. Carter tries to be their for Wyatt's family and often finds relief in whiskey. Then Faith comes back to town and runs into Carter. They rekindle their romance and she confides in him that she never passed the bar and is only a paralegal. Faith's family is also thrown into a political fight for survival and she does what she can. Faith and Carter have to decide if being four hours away from each other is worth having a relationship. This is a moving story and I really enjoyed reading about the things everyday people go through. I recommend this book.
I received a free copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Love this book. I am sure this is a situation that happens more often that we want to admit. There were several times that my eyes teared up throughout this book.
This book is dealing with how Carter deals with the loss of his best friend during war and survivors guilt because he survived and the injury to his leg because of the war. It also show how he feels everyone is treating him and how he deals with his guilt by drinking. When Faith, his high school sweetheart, comes back to town for a week they end up hooking up and old feeling return. Will they admit their feeling for each other? Will they just have a one week fling while Faith is home or will they continue to see each other and do the long distance relationship? Will Carter like Boston enough to stay their with Faith or will he have to go back to the small town they grew up in? Will Carter get the help he needs to deal with his grief and guilt so he is finally able to move on?
This was a military/small town second chance romance. Carter and Faith had an understanding in high school. They were happy being together, but they both wanted more for their futures than what their small town could offer. It was always understood that after graduation they would part ways and pursue their dreams. Carter enlisted in the Marines. After an injury and a devastating loss, he’s back home trying to heal his wounds. Faith went off to be a lawyer. After not making the cut, she works at a Boston law firm as a paralegal. They run into each other when Faith comes back home to visit her family and that same chemistry from when they were young is still there. This was an enjoyable read. My favorite character was Carter. He was so well written and there was a lot of depth with his character and all he was going through. He will make you melt. I loved how his relationship with Abbie. I loved how Faith was able to be everything that Carter needed without having to change. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
This was a beautiful story by Lara Swann. Carter and Faith were high school sweethearts who both had plans to escape the small town they lived in. Carter was going to join the Marines and Faith was going to law school. They were in love but didn't want to hold the other back. Now 9 years later, they are both back in Oakland. Carter is out of the Marines and Faith is home to spend time with her baby nephew. Neither has the life they planned- Carter came home injured and suffering the loss of his friend Wyatt. Faith failed law school and is working as a paralegal in Boston. Carter realizes his feelings for Faith are still there and he doesn't plan on letting her go a second time. Faith only plans to stay a week but she didn't count on the complication that is Carter and her feelings that are still there. Her parents are also in need of her help or risk losing the grocery store they have owned for years. This was a lovely story of healing and second chances. I received an advanced copy and am leaving an honest review.
I voluntarily received an arc copy of this story for my honest review. Carter and Faith were high school sweethearts. They both did not want to be tied down and knew that after high school they would part ways. Faith going to college to become a lawyer and Carter going to the marines.
They go their separate ways now nine years later. They are both back in town Faith is back to help her sister and Carter has been back for a while after being discharged from the army. Carter has survivors remorse and PTSD a mission overseas did not go well. Carter was hurt and he loved a dear friend.
This story is so moving the title explains the story. Faith gives Carter the faith to keep going. Faith also had some issues she is not a lawyer. She could not pass the test, but she i a paralegal whom is overworked by her firm. She is a good woman and good for Carter she gives him peace. This story is also touching it deals with lost and trying to find that peace to go on from day to day.
This story is a definite five star story, I'm very glad I read this.
Lara Swann has another winner with Keeping Faith. I absolutely love this book! Par for the course with this author, it is really well written and draws you in from the very beginning. Carter and Faith were together at the end of high school and it has always been their plan to go their separate ways after graduation. Years later they run into each other and the heat is palpable. Carter and Faith have their share of obstacles (what romance hero/heroine doesn't?), and the sweet, sexy dynamics they have together kept me easily reading this until I was finished. I was running an emotional gambit with this book; laughing one minute and weepy the next. Between all of the feels, the great characters, the story development, and all of the sweet, sexy goodness going on, this book is a must read. Honestly, I have four other ARCs to read and I just want to read this one again. I received this book as an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Carter and Faith were sweethearts when they were in high school, and went separate ways when Carter joined the Marine’s, and Faith went to college to become a lawyer. Life always throws some curveballs though, and not everything goes to plan. Now years later Carter is back in town after his BF was killed while serving with him in Afghanistan, and Faith returns home for a week when her sister has a baby. As soon as these two cross paths, the attraction is still as strong as it always was. Can these two overcome the obstacles in their path in order to have a relationship? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is an emotional, heartbreaking, humorous, sweet and sexy story, which in my opinion is a must read for all readers!
This book is heartbreaking at times! It starts at a slow pace and then picks up pace gradually.
At first one can hardly comprehend how broken Carter feels and really is. It is only revealed in tiny steps…
On the opposite side there is a seemingly strong Faith, secretly frustrated and questioning her work as a paralegal because of it separating her from her family and her love. Because of her having become an aunt recently and when her getting to know about the problems her parents are having with their grocery store she desires nothing more than to see her family more often and to help out with their problems…
Both protagonists feel torn to pieces and it is time for them to make some decisions…
Keeping Faith: A Second Chance Military Romance by Kara Swann. 5 Stars *****
Omg the most Gut Wrenching Ugly Cry to Happy Cry I've read all year!!!
Carter's character just broke my heart. To come home from combat without his best friend, broken and in such torment in his mind. It was intense.
Faith's character is a sweet hometown girl who dreamt of becoming a lawyer and moving to the big city, but as time goes by you can tell how much the little things and family mean to her.
Awesome Emotional Read.
Mature readers, strong language and sexual content.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book by its author. Reviewer for Nook Books and More Blog.
Keeping Faith by Lara Swann ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very uplifting! Faith and Carter have a past. A past childhood shared. But, they went they're separate ways. Carter to the military, and Faith to law school. Now they are adults and both are back in the same town, but only for a week. Faith gets caught up in helping her parents, dealing with her law firm and its demands, her sister's new baby, and Carter. Carter has his own issues to deal with and he wants to keep Faith this time around. It's a beautiful love story intertwined with political and extended family dynamics. This book makes you angry and happy and thoughtful. The characters are well thought out and really makes you feel for them. Very good read! This is the steamy hot romance of Carter and Faith. Rosie just had her baby and her sister Faith wants to come home for a week visit. She works in a law office in Boston and is looking forward to being home in Oakland again. Faith and Carter met in high school but they had gone their separate ways. Faith wanted to become a lawyer and Carter went into the service with his best friend Wyatt. Wyatt is killed and Carter leg is hurt, so he comes home. I enjoyed reading this story and the way the story developed around these lovers. This is the first book I have read of Lara Swann and I am looking forward to reading more from her. I received an ARC and have voluntarily left a review.
I love military romances and “Keeping Faith” is no exception. This deeply emotional book is well-written with wonderful characters. “Keeping Faith” kept me entranced from the beginning. Faith and Carter were childhood sweethearts but grew apart due to their differing future goals. They meet again nine years later and the chemistry is stronger than ever. After being injured Carter is now an ex navy seal and Faith is a paralegal not a lawyer. This heartwarming second-chance story is emotional, steamy, sad, funny and romantic. “Keeping Faith” is a book worth reading. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This author is still fairly new to me so I wasn’t sure what to expect but man was I blown away by this book! Beautifully written with characters that captivate you. I will say that I did find the first half to be a little slow but the second half was a full on roller coaster. There was one particular part that had me almost in tears (I’m not really a crier so that’s big for me) because of how emotionally invested I was in the characters and what they were going through. This was just an all around fantastic book that I would definitely say is a MUST READ! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Wow! This book was so powerful!! It has some seriously hard moments talking about the loss in war and experiencing PTSD that seriously brought me to tears, in multiple areas of the story. On top of that is passion, love, self doubt and compromise. You MUST read this book! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hero, Carter = 5/5 Heroine, Faith = 5/5 Chemistry = 5/5 Sex = 5/5 Plot = 5/5 Mystery = 2/5 Action = 2/5 Darkness = 4/5 Humor = 1/5 POV = dual Would I recommend this book = yes Would I re-read this book = yes Would I read future books by this author = yes
High school sweethearts, Carter and Faith are separated by life. He joined the marines and was injured, lost his best friend and suffers from PTSD. Her dream of being a lawyer ended up with her getting trained a s a paralegal. When they meet again she is only home for a week and their chemistry is still strong. Lots of drama and suspense. A page turner that will keep you guessing. No spoiler here as to do they get their HEA. A great read and one that I read as an advance reader and voluntarily chose to write a review.

He's lost his best friend and believes there's nothing to live for. He drinks everyday to be able to escape from his loss, past and loneliness. When Faith reenters his life again he sees a happier future for him self but will his grief and guilt Allow him to grasp the love Faith is offering him with out feeling like his betraying his best friends memory and family? I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book
Carter and Faith were high school friends whom each had great expectations for their lives after finishing school. Carter went into the marines, while Faith went on to college and is now working as a paralegal. They both meet up back in their small home town and both have obstacles to overcome as their relationship begins to heat up. This book is a roller coaster of emotions, turmoil and angst. It is a tear jerker and should be read with chocolate and Kleenex. I received this book as an ARC and voluntarily offer my honest opinion in this review.
Oh Wow!!!! I was absolutely pulled right in and loved every single bit of this story! Faith and Carter were meant to be but neither one realized it way back when. Life has a way of making us do what it wants and to hell with our plans. Heartwarming, sweet, sexy, spicy and the drama were all pulled together perfectly. I just couldn't put it down and I so wish that I could read more of Faith and Carter!!
4* Faith & Carter were together he was leaving for the marines she was leaving to become a lawyer. At 18 all they wanted was to leave their small home town. However life doesn’t always go to plan, guilt & regrets, He’s back for good but will faith return home? I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. A lovely story
I was actually sad to reach the end - I want more of Carter and Faith! They were secret loves in high school but knew they had to go their separate ways after graduation to pursue their dreams. Years later they run into each other again and sparks are still there. I received an advance reader copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Really great character connections. I'm only bothered a bit by some of the British phrases or terms used by seemingly American characters.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes military men and strong females. As a Navy veteran myself there could have been a bit more information about the military.
I love stories about military men. I had plenty of Uncles that were in the service and all came back with some kind of trauma, physical and/or mental so the PTSD element of the story line hit home for me. I loved Carter and Faith's journey. They had a very strong friendship from earlier on and it was enjoyable to see them reconnect and discover they were always meant to be. Beautifully done.
