With international tensions high at the onset of the Great War, and many in Europe clamoring for American intervention, Kreizler's case threatens to embroil not only his own life, but the lives of his countrymen, in the greatest and most deadly conflict modern civilization had ever seen.

The son of Lucien Carr, a former UPI editor and a key Beat generation figure, he was born in Manhattan and lived for much of his life on the Lower East Side. He attended Kenyon College and New York University, earning a B.A. in military and diplomatic history. He was a contributing editor of MHQ: The Quarterly Journal of Military History and wrote frequently on military and political affairs.

*Don't let the TV adaptation scare you from this series. The book vastly outperformed the show*
I really, really enjoyed The Alienist so I am pretty excited for this one, especially since Dr. Kreizler and John Moore will be back! Set 20 years after The Angel of Darkness, in 1915 New York City during America’s involvement in World War I.
FWIW, I do hope the title changes-- It leaves much to be desired.

June 25, 2026I only just learned of this book, and was very excited to read it! Sadly, I won’t get the chance. Unless… do copies exist online or in print?
