I thought this was going to be a book of Norwegian Folk Tales and the first few chapters were pretty much like that. But the book got into more of the Norwegian history with a chapter on Labor Unions and a couple ore on WWII. It may have given me a clearer view of why my Grandmother's entire family immegrated from Norway in the early 1900's, but it was dark days for Norwegians. I'm glad their economy has improved. Norway is a beautiful country!

I like John's books because they give you quick views of Norwegian highlights so it has a light feel too it but you learn things you might not know or would get lost in a bigger book.

Read this prior to my trip. It gives historical background of the people and culture of Norway. They were very closely tied to Denmark and Sweden. I can now go with a sense of their history.
