'engaging, concise, often revealing the author’s own inclinations and judgements—like the adjective "Machiavellian," which appears almost in every chapter. While the themes of natural law and historicism occasionally are applied somewhat rigidly, overall, they remain fitting.'

本書簡要介紹了各種各樣的“歷史主義”哲學。本人哲學基礎薄弱仍有諸多不明，日後需要重讀，但依然收穫甚豐。本書主要說明了“歷史主義”一詞的出現主要是對啟蒙運動中激進自然主義的反動，在介紹各種歷史主義思想中都多次點明。
