Here we are back at castle Kinlochtochie, I'll never get it right, lol, and once again we are treated to another delightful Serving of Intrigue and devious goings on. The characters are all superb, the story intrigues and there's a mystery that needs solving. Treat yourself to a little trip back to the twenties, when good behaviour was at the forefront, but behind the scenes? well read it for yourselves.
It is Christmas at Castle Kintochlochie, and a wedding has brought many to celebrate the season. Hamish is pursuing Ophelia to accept his marriage proposal, but she isn't quite ready. Even though married, Felicite' is the vamp of the party and tries her best to capture Hamish's eye again. Emmanuelle has created a cast of characters that come to life on the pages, and she fills them with humor, tension, passion, and loads of drama. It is a delightful read that will warm your heart and leave you smiling. I hope there are more stories from Castle Kintochlochie. It has become one of my favorites.
Ophelia has fallen for Hamish, and her grandmother wants her to take over the castle, but her mother wants her to 'marry well '. Then Hamish's ex arrives for Christmas, and a ghostly figure in white creates havoc. Great characters, terrific characterisation and a genuinely festive feel in this well-written period tale.
Love and mystery awaits in the second instalment. The romance of Ophelia and Hamish continue with the same cast of family, friends and a few nemesis’. If you loved the first, you will enjoy the second in the series.
A lovely fun Christmas read! I'm happy the author decided to do a sequel and it Looks like there will be a third yay! Hamish still deserves a smack upside the head tho...
I loved this Christmas story by Ms. de Maupassant. Her writing brought the characters and setting to life you thought you were really there with them smelling the trees and touching the decorations. This story had the right amount of intrigue mixed with a full bed of romance.
Six months on from this author’s previous 1920s tale of Highland life, Lady Ophelia Finchingfield has remained at the Scottish home of her grandmother, attracted by the charms of Hamish, the Estate Manager. It is now Christmas, and friends and family are gathered at the house for a wedding.
This author is adept at period pieces such as this, telling the intricate machinations of a large country house of the time, involving multiple characters, including the large number of servants employed to cater for them. The detail is exquisite and the characters so interesting and well described, that this is another book you don’t want to put down. It is a very entertaining read.
Highland Christmas: a 1920s cozy mystery romance (Bright Young Things Book 2
I'm very partial to Emmanuelle's books, I must admit. I like the way she sets the scene and tone of her books up front in the beginning. I read all of my books on my kindle. It is reserved for only my ebooks. I like how she begins each with a complete character introduction as if you were at a play watching the actors preform the play as it almost is before you. I read a great deal so often if my eyes are tired I have the book read to me by the narrator and shut my eyes to listen. Her descriptions are vivid and the stories flow smoothly. If I'm listening to it rather than reading it myself, everything seems to pop into focus. I feel like I'm there and part of the action as the plot unfolds.
I enjoy the step back in time to see how those of title lived, worked and related to each other and the subsequent plot twists and uncertainty of some of the more unpleasant people in the book. There is plenty of plot twists and events to keep you guessing throughout, and it doesn't lag or slow down once it all begins. You know of course that all will be right and turn out well in the end.
I honestly can't find anything negative about the book. It held my interest and many of the red hearings tossed along the way caught me unprepared and held my interests. The books I've read thus far by her are neither overly sexual or violent. I like that.
I would highly recommended this book to anyone who likes a solid cozy read that checks all the boxes for an enjoyable, interesting and fun read for a period piece of this nature.
I thought this would be fun like Downton Abbey. Admittedly, there was more sex, but the book in general was so dull, I despaired I'd ever get through it--even though it was only about two hours long!
Hamish pissed me off because he wouldn't just tell Felicity (fuck her French spelling) to fuck off. Ophelia pissed me off for the same reason. The great mystery didn't amount to much, and there weren't any real clues to let you figure it out or at least say, "Aha! I wondered why...." Took me half the book to figure out all the characters (maybe), and even then, I wondered why there were so many. Half could have been left out and no one would have noticed.
Book 2 of the trilogy - Danger among them Mystery, intrigue, passion, distrust and a wedding to be had at the castle are amongst all of the goings on in this second book of the trilogy. After book 1 and all the introductions, this story brings you back to all the strangeness at the castle. Dangerous things keep happening around Ophelia. Is she making more of the incidents than they really are? Can she overcome the danger that is getting closer and closer to her? Can Hamish protect her? Ophelia and Hamishs’ story just keeps getting better better and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and the narration.
I liked this. I’ve always loved Downton Abbey, and though this wasn’t my usual genre to read, I pride myself on enjoying any well-written story. There were rather a lot of characters, and some didn’t stick in the memory as much as others. The naughtiness was there, in a clean way, but enough for any adult to let their minds wander to make this as dirty as they needed it to be. The mystery part of the novel was diluted enough to not take over it, but hang in the background, weaving the story together like a bass player would do to a good rock song. I liked this.
Audiobook: I enjoyed book two of the "Bright Young Things" series even more than the first one as there was a cozy mystery that needed to be solved. This story took place in Ophelia's ancestral home of Castle Kintochlochie. There were several guests, several pets, and a mystery; all of which added to the story's entertainment. There were some amorous moments described. Gareth J Davies' narration was outstanding as his various voices brought the characters to life. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
Highland Christmas is the second story of the Bright Young Things trilogy and is full of adventure for Ophelia. She decided to stay at her grandmother's castle after the summer because she felt at home. Of course it helped that she also found love there. But someone, or something, is out to get her. Can she survive this?
A really great continuation. This review is based on the audiobook. I can't wait to listen to the final part. Gareth J. Davies is a real pleasure to listen to. Also: nice sound effects again!
This wonderful story continues on from "Highland Pursuits ", with much the same set of characters that were roguish and lovable in that first encounter. This story is filled with a sinister presence, which caliminates into a disaster. It is an excellent read, although not as risqué as I have found other books from this author. All the same an enjoyable read. I voluntarily submitted this review after reading an advanced copy of this book.
Lady Ophelia is visiting a lovely country manor belonging to her Grandmother during the Christmas season. A fancy wedding is planned for a dear friend. Ophelia is having a great time but is trying to carefully avoid having wedding plans to involve her single status. During the time after the guests arrive a ghost begins to walk the house and a death happens. Plus romance catches up with Lady Ophelia!
Wedding, Romance and Mystery....welcome back to Castle Kintochlochie
It’s Christmas and what a delight to be back with Lady Ophelia and her lovable rogue Hamish in this follow up to “Highland Pursuits”. Enjoyable story, this time mixing romance with intrigue and mystery, can’t wait for “Highland Wedding”.
Challenges abound in this love story. A domineering mother. A confused young woman. Multiple suitors. A jealous and dangerous rival. All this wrapped up in a tale of a Christmas wedding in a grande old house, which is perhaps haunted. This book is full of entertaining side stories. Hard to put down.
A good read for people who are in to the series recommend highly can't wait for the next one of the series a really enjoyable read but quick shaping up to be a enjoyable series must read the next one of the series
Set in 1928 in a highland castle where Ophelia and Hamish are trying to fall in love but there's something eerie plus that Felicity vamp causing trouble. A romp set in a Scottish castle with a wedding, romance,, and Christmas!
An enjoyable story which mixes romance with a little intrigue and mystery. It's set at Christmas and is very festive. It's a fun read and being set in the late 1920's is quite charming in places. It's an enjoyable romp with sexual innuendo . Great characters too.
Old enemies turn up at Christmas festivities danger in the corridors Are ghosts Real or are they a person Good sense of period great on fashion Sense of danger Is handled well Look forward to next book
I loved the book!!!! I was so sorry when it ended. Fabulous description of characters and places I felt I was another guest in that scottish castle very well written
Allow a long afternoon for this steamy Christmas wedding as two characters from Highland Pursuit return to tie the knot. I had an ARC via Booksprout and this is my voluntary review.
Fantastic book, throughly enjoyed listening to this book via audio book, well read by Gareth Davies. Loving this 1928 . Well done everyone involved 👏🏾 👍🏾
