Until his past caught up with him.
Now John Flynn has to revisit old demons and old friends to save the woman he loves from an enemy he knows to be dead.
Praise for John Flynn series:
"A great read, I have read everything by the author. He doesn't disappoint." - Amazon Reviewer
A.J. Stewart has lived in so many places it feels like he has a home team in every game he sees. Which explains why his wife begins any sports telecast with "who are going for today?" A.J. and his family currently spend their time in Los Angeles and South Florida, but stay tuned, anything could happen.
Second of the John Flynn thrillers I've read. I have to say that while I enjoy Stewart's writing in the Miami Jones series, the Flynn series just seems to be choppy. It doesn't flow in the same way that MJ series does. Then there's the fact that it's a continuing story, not just a continuing character. The final line in the book should have been "To be continued", instead of "He'd keep marching until he found a reason to stop." It was like leaving the supper table half full.
Oh, well. Other readers are going to have other opinions. "No two persons ever read the same book.": Wilson.
This gripped me in my gut, and I could not wait to see how John would handle this whole fiasco. But handle it he did. To see the renewed comraderie with Laura Hutton when they re-joined forces as well as the relationship John had with Beth are both heart-warming and heartbreaking. If you're a guy like John who has no family except the military and your experience in the military is very unpalatable to the masses, you will, like John, always find yourself looking over your shoulder. You will always be aware that you are a target for someone, just not what form of harm will come or from when and where the harm will come.
I was dizzy with the amount of action in this story. The force of the players involved that was needed and the direction from that force came was sometimes overwhelming. No doubt in my mind, this one man, John Flynn, is, imperfect as he may be, the kind of person who has a valid place in literary, imaginative, and real life. I'm going to be buying more books of this series!
John Flynn has a past. His father was a career Marine who was discredited by his superiors and who died under a cloud. Flynn ( the name he uses now) solved it by joining the Foreign Legion, surviving and staying. Some years earlier he was on a mission in Iraq where he was attacked by terrorists. He was shot and reported to have been killed. He also shot his shooter and thought him to be dead. Now someone has taken his woman and he’s on a mission to recover her. It is extremely well written and very visual. I know I could visualize all the action going on. Thanks to the author and publisher for an e-galley for an honest review.
I read the first volume in the series and loved it so much that I gave it five stars! I immediately started reading this, the second book, and discovered that much of the plot followed right along behind the first book. In fact, I wouldn't recommend reading this one alone - read the first volume first. I liked this one almost as much, but by now the characters, style, pace were more familiar so I was expecting it to be good - and it was. Great action and a sympathetic protagonist with a few flaws. I will read more in this series as they become available.
John Flynn has a heavy past that he can’t leave. It affects his life, friends and choices. The story is sadly believable because there are so many sick people in the world. There was almost too much mathematical detail. I know the brain works really fast, but if Lynn was really calculating all the pros and cons of his actions, did he lose valuable time in making a decision?
Had trouble putting this book down. John Flynn is a far-above average protagonist with a complicated back story that crafts his now decisions. I've stated before that Stewart is a writer to read and enjoy. Interesting especially since Flynn is the other end of the spectrum from the more fun Miami Jones. I'll be reading more... Eagerly.
I enjoyed the book very much, but not quite as much as the Miami Jones series - hence only four stars. However, I would still recommend it to Jones fans and I will certainly read the next in the series when published
Nothing to dislike, just fast paced page turning sleep lost reading. Already grabbed the next one and will be looking for more. And don’t even ask, yeah Mikey Liked It!!
This novel had plenty of action, suspense and who do you love. John spent a lot of time and money searching for the people who kidnapped his girlfriend. Another Great novel by AJ Stewart
Great read keeps you wondering what direction it will go next. Lots of unsuspecting twists and turns. Not the expected ending but a few surprises along the way
Unnecessary violence. I couldn't visualize Flynn's gymnastic moves or understand his thought processes. Ongoing stuff from the Middle East war years has become tedious. Nothing about the story made me want to read more of the series.
Flynn’s old life in the French Foreign Legion returns to cause him trouble and endanger people that are close to him. Lots of well written action. A great story.
Enjoyed this tremendously. Fast action, unexpected twists, bogeymen where least expected. If blood and guts bother you, don’t read. But I found it fantastic!
This excellent story follows John Flynn from his time in Iraq as a soldier in The French Foreign Legion to California, Washington, DC, New York City, and Pennsylvania, where an old adversary is waiting to kill him. The plot and action are phenomenal!
This was a terrible book. I slogged my way through because I previously enjoyed the Miami Jones series. This book had far too much useless diversions into useless information.
So glad to have decided to read this book. Great characters, moved well, just enough intrigue. Organized chaos.. One of the better I have read this year.
A.J. Stewart is a good story teller; his prose is interesting, for example: “She was still looking at me. Not smiling but not frowning either. It was the sort of look someone might give a painting in a gallery when they had been told it was an important piece but they couldn’t quite see why.”
As I read into the story, it seemed to be written for a man's man, but the characters were captivating and the plot held my attention. Recommended for adventure lovers
