Medusa: Through the Eyes of the Gorgon

Rate this book
What constitutes a monster?

Medusa Through the eyes of the Gorgon is a wonderfully, enchanting albeit haunting portrayal of the extraordinary life of the young girl who grows to become the infamous Medusa. The author takes us on a journey of discovery as the protagonist discovers that she possesses the astonishing gift of sight but also an abundance of compassion and love for humanity that is unmatched by any God. An oracle in all her glory, the author in her adoring portrayal so eloquently and intimately engages with and unravels the infamous Grecian Myth of the great and powerful Medusa. This myth denied Medusa her voice forever condemning her fragmented monstrous form whereas this wonderful story celebrates and gives Medusa back what she had lost for centuries.

She lurked in the shadows a shunned outcast, driven to the brink of sanity by Gods, the so-called creators of truth and justice.

However, evil has many faces as Medusa unveils the horrid guises of "the righteous" and guides us through the difference between truth and verisimilitude. Condemned to live a half life in the shadows, her deadly stare forbids any hope of any human contact, she is made to be the repulsive monster that everyone fears they too could become. but her story does not end there. She rewrites history as this so called "monster" holds a mirror up defiantly to the gods and to us. Medusa is the ultimate iconoclast.

A Reclamation of the ancient Greek mythology of the most prolific superbeing called Medusa. This riveting postmodern retelling, shows how woman's power and empowerment has always existed, but has been silenced and annexed.

The author Skevi Philippou, gives Medusa back her voice and her rightful place in our hearts as the slayer of evil and a staunch fighter for equality and justice for all.

This was a beautifully told story. I enjoyed the way the author made it so easily accessible for those of us who have little understanding of the old tales.

i was considering lowering the rating, cause in retrospect Poseidon is treated too fucking kindly in this and not as the absolute horrendous dirtbag he actually is, like this man has never felt sorry for anything in his entire eternal life, but it was overall a good story, a decent retelling and built a whole new history of Medusa's mysterious past, so i will be a bit lenient. (but Poseidon is still a cunt and should've been condemned all the way to Tartarus. he deserves no bonus points for anything.)

A really great story. So well written.

MEDUSA as a child: clever, full of life, love, passion and wisdom
MEDUSA transformed: Real, complex, broken, giving in to the darkness, fighting the darkness, so many grey areas.

Psychological
Thrilling
Compassionate
Great knowledge of Ancient Greece
Features many known and lesser gods and deities
Heartbreaking scenes (wait for the scene with her mother!)
Real relationships
Excellent backstory

Extremely interesting, loved the genesis. loved the representation of god vs mortal. this is one of the best Medusa stories Ive read. Really interested to see if the author releases the second book soon as it was mentioned that this will be a series.

Why is Poseidon, actual rapist, treated sympathetically? How does he come out better in an argument with Athena after he has literally just raped Medusa?
