Wade Carver is a dangerous man. So when a shady lawyer needs to find a boat filled with extremely valuable - and highly illegal - cargo, she hires Carver. Unfortunately, he's not the only who's been hired to do a risky job. A powerful drug dealer has targeted Carver for elimination, and offered a steep contract to any killer who can execute...the job. When Carver investigates the missing boat, the case takes him on a collision course with his search for his missing sister. The action is hot and heavy, just like the Florida sun.

"They say the camera adds ten pounds" Wade Carter likes the sound of the job and he likes the look of the woman commissioning him, too. An undercover 'lawyer' he'd met before, she wants him to find her client's missing boat which, she explains, contains hidden art treasures, worth a small fortune, and possibly not quite legal. The boat is called Brown Sugar and was last seen in Boynton Beach, which coincidentally happens to be the place that his missing sister was last rumoured to have been seen. And calling herself, yep, Sugar. Could be score two birds with one job?
Written in the first person, this short book is quick and easy to read and fast moving. There are excellent thumb nail sketches of numerous characters and a great sense of place from the often amusing descriptions of Carver's travels. His wry, cynical humour.runs through the book together with his self confidence but his search for his sister also reveals a tiny chink of guilt.c
Interesting main protagonist, not too heavy on plot but good on place and character, this well written P.I.story makes an enjoyable read and the conclusion points towards a follow-up story.
This is the second book in the Wade Carver Florida Mystery series and it’s as good as the first book “Molly’. You can read this book as a stand alone but I recommend reading Molly first. The books aren't that long so it’s easy to do. I went straight from Molly to Sugar and loved them both.
Once again, Carver is hired to find a boat named Sugar which may have illegal items in the boat. Carver is almost a bag guy himself since he has an arsenal of weapons and knows how to use is body to knock down even the bigger guys.
Once again this book is a fast pace book with a lot of guns, fights and mystery. Great read and I will continue reading this series.
Sugar by Dan Ames “Wade Carver” book 2 Enjoy his books, this new series is a delight to read, having read Molly book 1 . Sugar opens with us learning how he protects his home from intruders. Lawyer, when he first met her was undercover, so he had an idea of the type of cases she takes. A boat, owner may not know what exactly was on it, called Brown Sugar, she wanted his help. Now he had a boat, and still looking for his sister, called Sugar. The plot is fast, funny, and who he thought was, turns out to be somebody else. Will he find what he is after, or will trouble keep him from him. Readers will enjoy reading this and all of his books. Awaiting the next book Angel.
This is the second book in the series and picks up where Molly left off. It's a quick read with lots of action and a deadly wheelchair. While Wade is working his current case of trying to find a missing boat, he's also continuing his quest to find his sister and I didn't see the ending coming.
Carver combines the hunt for his sister with his latest case. As he gets closer to his client's missing boat, he's also getting closer to his sister and all hell's about to break loose!
Dominique is not what she seems - even after first impressions! She hires Carver to find a missing yacht, Brown Sugar and recover it by whatever means he can for her boss. The price is right so she's got a deal! Trouble is, Carver's secretly handicapped by Dominique's careful dance around the truth and what he doesn't know could prove deadly when it comes to the crunch...
What is the hidden cargo aboard the yacht? Who does it/Brown Sugar really belong to? What/who is the other Sugar that Carver's seeking for himself? Why is Carver amazed to discover who saved him from a gruesome encounter? How has this person changed - and why does the change shock Carver?
This scintillating snippet of a novella will engage the seeker of a rip-roaring PI yarn like no other. Though small, it is beautifully formed by its genius of a creator, Dan Ames. Feisty females and an all-action hero lead the reader on a switchback of emotions that will make you sweat, smile and maybe even sing for joy at the thought there's a new face on the block, ready to kick ass or woo a 'fair maid' as necessary - and a new 'warrior' woman standing behind his throne, whose name is Sugar!
This KU Library selection contains characters we met in book one. Carter is a PI in Tampa Florida while he searches for a sister he hasn't seen since they were teens. The stories are rough and gritty, the characters are the same. I didn't enjoy this novella as much as the first, then it ended with a cliffie/teaser for Angel, giving it a 3.5 stars. I doubt I'll continue when volume three releases.
Excellent book and moving on to the next book. Carver is an interesting guy. I wouldn't want to date him, but he has had a really different way of getting by in his life and great stories to tell. Highly recommend this book!
