I should have done more research on this before purchasing - I was buying books for my Entrepreneurship class and this one was a good deal so I figured, "ah, what the hell. Why not?" and I quickly purchased it with some funds that were running out at the end of the year.
This book is a self-published, low effort text aimed at exploiting the ease of selling just about anything on Amazon. On the last page of the book, it literally begs the purchaser to leave them a nice Amazon review so they can sell more books. Save yourself the $15 and just go Google search a buzzfeed article of the top Warren Buffet quotes.
This is essentially a self-published, print on demand, glorified listicle/compilation of 43 Warren Buffett quotations, briefly described and summarized in perfectly clear, reasonable, well-written, softball-style, easy-reading fashion. It looks like the pages were designed in Word, double-spacing like in a document, large type, takes less than an hour to read. But it's enjoyable and enlightening enough thanks to Buffett's wit and wisdom and the author's perfectly adequate elaborations and summaries. I at first felt ripped off, conned, duped etc into buying a book like this, but for my purposes it's a perfectly fine introduction to Buffett's basic sayings, many of which I've already heard in various YouTube clips. Anyway, if you come to this with very low expectations, they will be exceeded, but if you come to this expecting a sort of brief biography officially sanctioned by Buffett himself, you'll be disappointed. The first rule is don't lose money -- and I don't feel like I lost anything on this relatively inexpensive purchase and outlay of time to read it.
Lard has created a concise and simply-written summary of Buffett's best one liners throughout his public career and the writing is anything but serious. One can clearly tell the book is self-published by the typesetting design and the second person discussion which makes up the one page "conclusion" of the work. The book is not for readers who are looking for a deep analysis of Buffett's governing values. Instead, it would be better suited for those who are looking for a brief introduction and some interesting snippets of wisdom.
I read this book in a single day. It was a pleasure to read because it basically summarizes Buffett's philosophy on life, relationships and finance. If you are a fan of Warren Buffett, or simply want to get an inside tip on how he approaches business and the stock market, I would recommend you pick up this short read.
I’ve read a few books on Warren Buffet before. I like this one the best because it’s a short and less technical read. As the title states, it contains 43 lessons for business - many of which apply to life. Each lesson has a brief elaboration on the Buffet quote by the author. There’s a lot to learn here and if you’re a fan of Buffet - that’s an even better bonus. I highly recommend it.
Fast, to the point for business and personal relationships. Keith Lard covers the 42 lessons and then summarizes the reasonings. I purchased 3 of these books, one for the home and 2 for the grandsons who are finance majors in college. Very understandable and Buffett is famous for his comments. Buffett likens reading to compounded interest because it builds up your knowledge over time.
The idea of collecting quotes and expanding on them sounds good in premise, but this book has less teeth than Buffett’s Wiki page and a top Google result of his best quotes.
It’s never a great sign when the cover image is pixelated and this is a book you indeed can judge by its cover.
The author does a great job using real-life actions that Warren did in his life to prove lessons about business and life. One life quote that stuck out to me, “a persons main asset is themselves, so preserve and enhance yourself”.
