Short stories about the interesting characters that populated early Florida. I actually learned a lot about my Dad reading these stories. And also his parents.

This book is a compilation of Ray Washington's column, "Cracker Florida," syndicated by the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group for seven years, a time during which Mr. Washington's writing had not yet suffered the effects of his attending law school.

I found a worthy review of the book at Amazon and have posted it here:
James B. Johnson (HUDSON, FL United States)
This review is from: Cracker Florida (Paperback)

"Several sketches of colorful, eccentric Floridians. Maid, prisoner, store clerk, Seminole Indian, schizophrenic, etc. The writing is excellent, the vernacular dialect is authentic, the scenes are familiar from my childhood.
What's marvelous about this book is the subjects have lots of dignity. It's not a collection of carnival freaks with tattoos and addictions and senses of entitlement."
