Rules of the Wild

Rate this book
After her father's gambling addiction finally catches up with him and his debts put her life in danger as well, Emy Forester is forced to go into hiding in Juneau, Alaska. Planning to start a new life, she finds a job at a local pub, and it is there that she first sets eyes on Tobias Wyatt.Tobias is unlike any man Emy has ever met. The former game warden is as rugged, harsh, and uncompromising as the Alaskan wilderness he calls home. He is the kind of man a woman obeys unless she wants to feel his belt across her bare backside. The thought of belonging to Tobias should terrify her, but instead it leaves Emy's heart racing and her panties soaked. When Emy lets her curiosity get the better of her and flirts with Tobias one time too many, she ends up spanked until she is sobbing. Despite her blushing cheeks and sore bottom, however, his rough, dominant lovemaking proves more satisfying than she would have thought possible, and an intense, passionate romance quickly ignites between them.Over the coming weeks, Tobias sets out to teach Emy the proper respect for the dangers of this wild, untamed land. But the men who killed her father haven't stopped looking for her. When Tobias learns that Emy has been lying to him about her identity, will it destroy the bond they've built together, or will he forgive her deception and take it upon himself to protect her?Publisher's Rules of the Wild is a stand-alone novel which is the first book in the Alaskan Wild series. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

Jaye Elise

Jaye Elise suffers from a perpetual case of wanderlust, but seems to have settled down - for now - in the Pacific Northwest. She's excited to write the types of books that she loves to read, namely the steamy kind. Although she's at her most comfortable (and wicked) when writing in the Romance and Erotica genres, she also enjoys reading murder mysteries and gripping historical fiction.

Her hobbies include reading tawdry paperbacks in full view of complete strangers, watching James Bond marathons (and skipping the late Roger Moore films), and overdosing on caffeine.

When she's not writing, you can find Jaye hiking with her wonderful husband, traveling all over the globe, or diving into a new book (see above).

I enjoyed this story. The location of the story in Alaska was different and interesting. The beginning of this story is tough to read. The story kept me entertained all the way. The characters are well created and very engaging. I volunteered to read and review for SNP.

Confused

Why is that when the woman breaks a rule she gets spanked, but when the man screws up, all he has to do is say he's sorry? Sorry that bugged me with this book as he made more than his share of mistakes, but she was lucky if he admitted he was even wrong.

After witnessing her father's murder, Emy decides that rather than go to the police like most people with any sense would do, she would go north -- to Alaska. There she meets Tobias, dealing with his own loss and trauma. The rest of their book details their growing DD relationship and the possibility that Emy's secret past might destroy her future.

This book was okay. I appreciated the descriptions of Alaska, an unusual location choice for this genre: they were detailed without turning into info-dump and seemed authentic. Emy was reasonably strong (though as per usual with these books, more so before she decided to become the MMC's doormat), and Tobias did on some level respect that.

What I didn't like was Emy just accepting everything that Tobias did to her -- including beating her with a belt when her negotiating skills proved better than his, and, later, when she begged him not to go out in a dangerous storm. How either earned her a punishment was beyond me and both incidents made him look like a sexist pig who can't stand it when a woman is right. Truthfully, I didn't like Tobias: he was too gruff, too judgmental, and too quick to punish. I couldn't connect to them as a couple since I never understood what Emy saw in him; she did all the compromising; and she forgave him far too easily.

2 1/2 stars. Other than the locale and Tobias' job, there's nothing particularly memorable about this book, but at least it was consensual; the twist towards the end was unexpected; and the prose was decent (though the MFC gets over her father's death awfully quickly). On a personal note, as an animal lover and vegetarian, I couldn't stand all the killing of animals.

Good story. Enjoyed the description of Alaska and the lifestyle.

The book pulls you in from the beginning with Emy's escape from her father's situation. The writers did a great job with Emy and Tobias. Somehow, they managed to make them "click", when you normally would not have expected them to do so.

Emy decided she wanted to submit to Tobias and obey him. I was surprised she was willing to give him that level of trust while being in her situation. The writers laid it out very nicely, so you understand that it was her decision.

There was some action, some suspense, and not much angst. It was enjoyable enough to make you look forward to and wonder where they will go with book 2.

This is another wonderful collaboration of Jaye Elise and jack Crosby. I adored the descriptions of the Alaska wild and the community. The scene with the storm had my on the edge of my seat.
But most of all I loved the characters. Tobias was a grouchy as a grizzly, but very sweet and protective underneath. Emy was strong and sassy. Both weren’t perfect, but they were together.

Easy read

Easy read. Story is a little jumpy. Still not sure why she chose him but the story moved along at a good pace with good tying of loose ends. Good enough to read second in series

Loved it

I loved this story I could feel the emotions throughout. Caught me off guard with who would seek her to kill her. I almost thought you forgot to add that part.

Mr. Crosby is a new author for me, but I love Ms. Elise and the teaser was so enticing that I one-clicked and devoured this late one night and into the morning. Yes, I was tired the next day at work, but I still am thinking about brave, adaptable, feisty Emy, and gruff, grumpy, sexy Tobias. Their chemistry was hot and Emy knew just which of Tobias’ buttons to push to get the big ole bear to make his move. But when he did make his move, he made it clear that it was on his terms. This is one sizzling sexy book, filled with real emotion, angst, panty-melting moments, danger, and one heck of a story!

Don't poke the bear

I like Jaye Elise and her stories. This one is no different.

Emy flees to Alaska one step ahead of people who want to kill her because of her father. Her grandparents had lived in Juneau, so she figured that would be a safe place to go.

Toby had been a game warden, but now he did other things. When he sees Emy, he knows that she is his.

Toby has a strict code, but when something happens, he doesn't even think about his actions, which made him a huge jerk, if you ask me. At least he corrected his cranial rectal inversion. I do like though. He takes good care of Emy.

Toby and Emy worked perfectly together in this story. Both are somewhat broken and hiding from pasts they would like to forget. I love the slow healing the author offers as these two come together. The small town feel of Juneau and its unique characters provided a perfect complement to Toby and Emy's romance. The addition of Toby's crabbing adventure provided enough drama to keep the story moving forward without overwhelming the romance. This was definitely an enjoyable book to read.

I received an ARC of this book from Stormy Night Publications.

I liked this story a lot! The two main characters were older and seemed to be fairly stable. Of course there was a big misunderstanding, because it's a rule in romances I think, but things work out well. I also really enjoyed the supporting characters, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series!

I’m from Alaska so I warily choose books set there…

That said, this was good. The crabbers getting paid based on the haul, the dangerous waters, and the amount of time is takes to be considered local. The use out “outsiders” for those from the “Lower 48.” That’s all accurate. I also appreciated reading about a man who thought like a man, no matter how gruff he may come off sounding, and still be a character you like. I get tired of reading lines from male characters sounding like girls and thinking with their hearts first. One of the best spanking books I’ve read!

I loved this collaboration between Jaye Elise and Jack Crosby! The suspenseful opening was exciting, the descriptions of the Alaska were stunning, and the chemistry between the characters was mouth-watering. So happy a second book's release followed quickly.

Decent enough story. It's your standard mountain man kind of story. There were a couple of good spanking scenes. The writing was a little stilted and it didn't flow very well. The characters seemed a little one dimensional and there were some corny stereotypes going on.

I liked the plot how it unfolds and the way the characters came together. I liked the end of it
