Mankind is no longer at the top of the food chain.

The Sixth Extinction is an apocalyptic tale about a pandemic that sweeps the globe, decimating the human race, leaving humanity struggling to survive. Within three weeks, everything has changed. Social structure has collapsed as the government locks itself away with a select portion of its vast army in deep bunkers, leaving the civilians to their own fate and the infected that stalk the streets.

Troy is dead – folded in half like a piece of paper – killed by the pod that released the pandemic in Madagascar, which is now hiding in the belly of the cargo ship. Naomi is being held prisoner by a man named Cain – an old crew member turned into a slave to do the biding of the original pod. Why has he kidnapped her? What is his endgame? Meanwhile, Smokie, Frank, Terrance, Caroline, Lindell, Donna, Alex, and Mollee are being held at gunpoint by the Boss – the leader of the coastguard cutter ship they thought they had escaped from.

Hundreds of miles away on dry land, deep down, inside the bunker, Bachman, Emma, Ralph, Pete and Tes are hiding in an apartment. Pete has been infected – a gash on his arm is wiggling with small tentacles. They only have one choice open to them. However, just when they solve one problem another is always waiting just around the corner.

Stu and Soozie have returned to the cargo ship. They arrive just after the Boss, and they have a child in tow. They find a ship that is no longer a haven, but has been turned into a nightmare, with a new strain of the infection changing people faster, into more dangerous creatures, and mutated birds which dive-bomb from the sky.

The new strains are making survival even more difficult. That’s when it appears over the horizon, a new option which could turn out to be a game changer. However, just when they think they are winning; the old cargo ship’s crew makes a disturbing appearance. Those on the ship are then given an impossible choice.

Wow! I love this series so much!
I was really happy when I saw that this episode had been released. A post apocalyptic story that improves with every book. This is an extremely fast paced and gory sequel, that will have fans of zombies / gore loving every second. The poor characters never get a rest from start to finish as the virus continually evolves, causing stranger and more deadly mutations.
I so wanted to 5 star this. I'm standing my ground though. Running through the entire series are a string of spelling mistakes, incorrectly placed words and bad grammar. Despite mentioning these in reviews, nothing gets done. It would appear that proof readers are either a thing of the past - or just ignored! Such a shame as this is one hell of a story, sadly let down once again by the above.
