The best part of this are the friends. Particular the MC H’s friends. They are so sweet trying to help him out with his crush. I kinda rather see their stories than the MCs tbh.

4, it picked up a tad and I am curious enough to maybe seek out the next volume in the future, stars.

Volume Review: 5/5
I really enjoyed this! The story so far is great. The artwork at first seems a bit weird because she really zooms in on their faces, but after a while, I realized I really liked it and she's so good at changing their expressions. Things are moving slowly for Kai and Riko but I also like the other "couples" in this volume … want to see where they go!

I'm excited I picked up this series and definitely recommend it.

The second volume and I love how Kai's friends try to help him out, that was just so sweet and kind of them... though of course it didn't work out. Well, for one of them, haha, but the others, not so much. XD I loved the theme park date though. And I also love how, when at Kai's house and the sensei + Riko popped by the friends were just texting each other to make sense of everything.
I love the little moments Kai and Riko have (when she isn't angry, like at the end for instance when she figured something out), and I definitely hope that there are more of them, I am definitely rooting for them to figure it all out, haha.
And the art was so pretty!
I am getting a bit tired of Riko's violence/ability to go from zero to 100 for now good reason, I know back in the day I wouldn't have minded it that much, but now I am just a bit done with it. Girl, at least give the guy a chance.

Kai is in love and doesn’t know what to do about it because Riko thinks he is just a fickle playboy who can’t be taken seriously. His friends want to help him so Tora invites Rika’s bestfriend Ooshima out on a group date to the amusement park so in hopes that Kai and Riko can spend some quality time together. Ooshima is excited to go and Riko can’t refuse her best friend. Kagura agrees to go as well, to protect them! Shimura (school reporter) senses a hot story and invites herself along as the 4th girl.

The haunted house is the perfect opportunity to get Kai and Riko to spend time together. Tora takes responsibility over the antagonistic Kagura. Tora and Kagura are childhood ‘friends’ who families run a temple / shrine and are rivals of a sort. Kagura ‘hates’ Tora for being a womanizer, but he never seems to take offense at her hostility. Kiritani quickly follows by asking Ooshima, at first he feels he made a mistake as she is taller than he is, and she is unsure as she wanted a taller boy, but after spending a little time together he sees her cute side, and she sees his manly side. Unexpectantly a romance starts to bloom between them.

Doing his part Misaki goes in with Shimura, and she uses the opportunity to interview him, and shows that she is surprisingly observant and intuitive to the boys true motivations as she grills him not only on Kai’s potential interest in one particular girl, but also his own... she could be trouble. Of course that leaves Kai and Riko together, Kai isn’t good with horror stuff so Riko takes the lead, lol. Suwa, Riko’s crush is also at the park on a date, and it is really cute how Kai tries to protect Riko from finding out, but in the end it was for naught as she already knew Suwa’s girlfriend. Riko’s care over those she loves really impresses Kai and has him reevaluating his own feelings and motivations. I love how Kai is so reflective and really can appreciate Riko and her feelings, even when he disagrees with how she denies her own feelings.

I also really appreciate how the boys relationships are handled as well. I like that Misaki checks in with Kai and let’s him know that he is there when / if he is ready to talk. We know these two have been friends for a long time, and I like that they are real friends who talk and share their problems with each other. I also like who the boys (sans Kai) have a group chat so that they can talk about Kai and his love, they are really trying to help him and it is funny and adorable.

The volume ends with a little family time with Kai, Riko and Suwa show up expectantly and end up getting invited to dinner. Kai learns more about Suwa and his girlfriend Akemi, and we get more progression between Riko and Kai. Riko figures out it was Kai who helped her when she was sick.

The doki doki moments continue!! Man, I am truly enjoying reading this series and I'm trying to read it as slow as possible cause I don't want it to end. Seeing Kai truly care and discover what "love" is is a pretty good read. I also love how supportive his friends are and how this will probably also create cute storylines among the road. Anyway, Hatsu Haru continues to impress me and I am looking forward to discovering what "first love" is with Kai and the characters.

Good second volume! I liked the amusement park group date and the house visit. This book managed to be simultaneously cute and funny as hell (partially because poor Kai had his feelings crushed a few times). That said, the romance is moving along some as Kai sorts out what it means to be in love. I really enjoyed this! 4 stars.

In Summary

A carelessly assembled group date and a teacher home visit where all the wrong information gets out give readers a lot to laugh at. This volume seems intent on putting our lovelorn former playboy through the wringer and adds a number of fun new characters to assist in the task. There are a couple more serious moments when the subject of Riko’s unrequited love pops up, but for the most part, humor at Kai’s expense dominates this volume.

The Review

As mentioned in my review of Volume 1, Kai’s abrupt attraction to a girl he’s disliked for years is a bit of a leap, but if you’ve made that jump, the events of Volume 2 are pretty entertaining. The main difference between Volume 1 and 2 is that several more characters get involved to liven up the story. I’d viewed Kai’s three friends as a group before, but when they discover the identity of Kai’s crush, their efforts to meddle help their friend allow their individual personalities to show through.

Their plan to get Kai and Riko together involves a group date, which necessitates the introduction of three female students to balance the numbers. Thus we get the man-hater shrine maiden Kagura, the zealous school reporter Ayumi, and the overly self-conscious about her tallness Kiyo. Although the girls aren’t super popular like the four boys, they’re cute enough. Mainly, they serve to voice generally held opinions about the boys and also to highlight the boys’ unique characteristics. As it so happens, each boy has something in common with one of the girls, and it’s hilarious to see how Fujisawa-sensei plays out those four commonalities as comic variations of the same haunted house scene.

Fujisawa-sensei also brews up situational comedy in the form of a teacher house call. It’s a bit of a stretch how Kai’s three guy friends, Suwa-sensei, and Riko all end up at Kai’s house at the same time, but once that perfect storm gathers, the resulting emotional chaos is a riot. The best part is Tarou and Miki’s text commentary as Kai gets obliterated by Suwa-sensei’s innocently uttered remarks.

However, it’s not all Kai receiving damage from his clueless rival. Riko (and readers!) get a look at Kai’s home life, and the visit leaves her with an overall positive impression, even as Kai tries and fails yet again to confess his feelings. At this point, the poor guy’s suffered so much I can’t help but root for him, so I look forward to seeing how his next attempt will play out.

Extras include embedded author’s notes, 3-page afterword manga, and translation notes.

This volume was a little more repetitive in some ways, but overall a good read. The main character practically hits the reader over the head with the idea that he's fine talking to other girls but his crush makes him flustered, but I'm glad we're getting a story like this from a male's perspective. While this kind of story is not original, I find that manga with this storyline featuring a male protagonist is pretty uncommon. Generally if a male character is a protagonist in most genres, he's either a. Actively pursued by other girls but rarely or never commits to one, b. In a shoujo where he's either already in a relationship with someone then falls in love with someone else/enters a relationship with someone almost immediately, or c. Is the protagonist of a harem series and is stupid/a wish fulfillment fantasy for the audience and thus is never meant to be with someone. It is uncommon to see a character portrayed as a playboy from the beginning, fall in love with a girl, be sure of that love, and ponder about it as long he does. It is refreshing and I honestly really like it. The artwork is still strong and while the side characters aren't totally interesting they are fun to have around. I will definitely be continuing with this series, I hope it stays this strong throughout.

Just gonna accept that this is more-or-less insta-love and roll with it because the story is actually pretty cute!

Kai is a playboy that has basically ignored Riko for years. She's short, a tomboy, and occasionally violent with those that overstep their bounds with her. Completely aware of his man-whore ways, she also knows Kai can be responsible when needed. So they do their best working together as class representatives.

It's only when Kai gets to witness a different side of Riko, does he start to see her as an actual girl. The more he learns about her, the more he likes her and thinks he's falling in love with her. Problem is, she has this huge, unrequited and secret crush on their teaching assistant. It's so bad that she doesn't even register Kai's feelings for her.

This leaves him spinning out in angsty, built up frustration because he's never had to try and "chase" a girl before. Nevermind consider her feelings before his own.

Another stellar volume!

Kai is still figuring out not only how to get across to Riku his feelings for her but also gains a bit more understanding about Riku's feelings. I love how Kai really takes Riku's feelings into consideration and how it's not just how he feels which I think is great character development for him.
I also thought this volume did a great job of fully introducing side characters from the first volume but without a lot of exposition and was able to show how each of them interacted with each other. Once again, the artwork is as beautiful as ever. The humor continues to be on point. Can't wait to read the next volume in this series!

Such a nice continuation! I love the whole cast of characters getting expanded and allowing us to get to know more of the friends, who are such a fun group of characters. I feel like even their friends have such an opportunity for growth and development.
The main character still has his issues, but I see growth. I think they’re pretty cute, the main “couple”, even though they are not together yet. Clearly we need some more growth before they should get together, but I am on board.

More growth, more fun, give me more!

More of a 3.5 star rating;
I really like that this volume shows more of both Kai and Riko’s friend groups. Kai having such supportive friends is very amusing and heartwarming to see, even if they are a tiny bit meddling. I also really enjoyed learning more about Riko’s one-sided affection and even a bit more about Riko’s mindset in terms of how she views a family. I also found it highly amusing, and adorable, to see all of Kai’s family unexpectedly meeting Riko and seeing Kai’s dynamic with some of his family members.

Beh, continua a piacermi come storia.

This is one of those series that I read just because of the angst.

It’s admittedly not the best in forms of originality in story and character. I do like the art and angst enough to read more though.

I did enjoy seeing more of the side characters (and being able to ship some together). My favorite part of this has to be the haunted house walk through!

We get to meet Riko’s friends this chapter! And they’re all adorable and quirky in their own ways. This volume was mostly about a group date at the amusement park with Kai and Riko’s friends.

This story is too cute. I really like that we get to see inside Kai’s head since he’s the main character of this story. All the characters are so interesting and I can’t wait to read more!

uhm I don't relate ro any of the characters or sympathise them or sum, but this volume got me thinking about love and how liking someone doesn't mean they like you back and that it's just not easy.
I admire a lot how the mc's personatily has changed and he thinks a lot more about other people's feelings and just has had a major character development. 3,5 points

I am really loving the male point of view and laughing so hard at Kai Ichinose's friends texting their secret conversations about him. Can't wait to see what happens next especially after the APPLES AHHHHHH! I quite enjoyed the amusement park too and the additional pair ups.

I gave the second book a try but I'm still not connecting with the characters. I don't find either lead admirable or interesting and I can't bring myself to root for their love line. I think this series is not for me.
