I really like the storyline of this manga series but was really creeped out by the relationship Taka had with his stepsister. I truly wasn’t expecting that from this series and I feel like it was unnecessary.

I was very happy to see that Riko and Kai finally got together because I have been waiting 5 VOLUMES FOR THIS. I loved all of the other volumes so the only reason this volume gets a two star rating is because Taka and his stepsister made me uncomfortable.

SO MUCH SQUEALING!!!!!!!!
There were some major character and relationship developing moments in this volume. Not only for the main ship either! I am quite happy with the direction the series is going, and I look forward to what comes next!

YALL I READ THROUGH THIS VOLUME SO FAST LIKE- THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST VOLUME YET!!!!!! We were definitely served up a feast here.

Major Spoilers so don't read unless you've read the volume

Overall, this was one heck of a volume and I wish the momentum will not stop. While, I'm looking forward for more of Ichinose and Takanashi's love story, I am also wondering and hoping and looking forward to see more of the side love stories evolve too.

Thank you so much for this amazing volume, Fujisawa-sensei.

Riko is reeling after Kai’s surprise kiss... Shimura knows what happened and goes to the Misaki for help. After talking to Kai, Misaki has a talk with Riko, trying to get a sense how she feels and give her a little something to think about. Misaki is truly the MVP for this volume, such a great friend a lot of gems from him. Both Kai and Riko finally admit their feelings to each other and go on their first date. Kai tries to micromanage every single detail of their fun date, and none of it goes to plan. Kai you adorable dork, he continues to be such a great fun character.

The second story deals with Misaki and the reason why he isn’t interested in dating anyone... Misaki was in an inappropriate relationship which ended, but he is still holding on and can’t move on from it, especially as the person is part of his family. She has made her feelings clear but Misaki is having a hard time accepting it. Shimura gets roped into having dinner with Misaki’s family and figures out their secret and helps Misaki get closure. It is a cute little scene. I’m really liking their growing relationship. Misaki seems like a unemotional, stoic character, but really he is quite sensitive and highly invested in making sure he is a good friend, but in doing so he will conceal his own feelings and problems. Shimaru, being the insightful and noisy person that she is, is able to figure it out and help him, precisely by being someone who isn’t too emotionally involved or too sensitive to ask if he needs to talk.

In Summary

Riko finally realizes Kai’s in love with her. The joke about our ultra-dense lead lady has gone on way too long, so it’s a relief for Kai’s efforts to finally pay off. Thus the next phase of their relationship begins. Granted, it’s still plagued with misunderstandings, but at least they’re on the same page about their desire to be together.

The Review

This volume has been a long time coming. After so many attempts by various people to help Riko get a clue, Kai confronts her with a confession that cannot be interpreted as anything but. It is a momentous, heart-pounding moment for our pair, but this being a romantic comedy, Fujisawa-sensei still finds a way to pull out the rug from under our besotted protagonist. Thus, the official formation of Riko/Kai is sweet and funny although I have to wonder about Kai’s health with him constantly winding up bedridden.

Considering it’s taken six (!) volumes for the heroine to realize the male lead wants to date her, I thought the series might put in a “happily ever after” there and end. However, the story continues, and I sense it won’t stop until all eight friends get paired up. What this means for our main couple is that they move on to dating and the excitement and awkwardness that comes with it. Riko’s never dated (I guess Hatano doesn’t count), and Kai’s never dated anyone like Riko. While it is strange the Kai’s Romantic Endeavors Group feels the need to continue monitoring the two, the comedy of errors that is Kai’s carefully planned first date with Riko brings a desperately needed fresh flavor of misunderstandings to their relationship.

Meanwhile, the things progress on the Takaya/Ayumi front. It’s not that they draw closer romantically; their relationship is still “fake boyfriend/girlfriend.” Rather, Ayumi gets a deeper understanding of Takaya. The narrative’s hinted strongly that the reason Takaya never paired up with anyone because he’s in love with his NOT BLOOD RELATED step-sister. Surprisingly, it turns out the attraction was once mutual. While the scenario’s not unknown in shoujo manga, Fujitani-sensei makes Takaya’s reflections on his step-sister both tragic and heartrending. As for Ayumi, our energetic school reporter gets to reveal her compassionate side. She’s a bit awkward in offering sympathy, but her earnest effort to help Takaya achieve closure makes her even more likable. Their relationship remains “fake,” but after this volume, I’m rooting for it switch to “real” soon.

[ ★★★★ / 5 ]

Finally we got a glimpse of Taka's backstory. It was predictable. I kind of guessed it. But still, it was quite unfortunate ((since it extends to physical-kind of relationship (not an unrequited one) and it's consensual for both of them)). At least this problem ((like Riko and Sawa's issues)) is not too romanticized and not dragged on. The problem was resolved quickly and completely ((—and that's thanks to our best girl Ayumi!)).

And Ayumi characterization is just getting better, I— What a good girl... 🥺

Anyways, Kai is as hillarious as ever! I love his dramatic ass. Such an amazingly fun character, I never get tired of watching his antics. The only conflict existed in this manga is Kai and a whirlwinds pool of overly emotional braincells of his. Glad things worked out for him! Work hard never betrays! ✊🏻😌

While it was very interesting that this volume focused a bit more on Kai’s best friend: Takaya, and his struggles in love, the taboo aspect that it ended up being was a bit off-putting. That aside, it was lovely seeing Takaya’s unique dynamic with Ayumi and his love struggles bring the pair closer as friends. Also, it took 5 volumes but we finally got the relationship that this manga series has promised! Their first date was both adorable and amusing to watch/read play out, and I have hope for Kai and Riko’s relationship.

The humor still catches me off guard. The date was super hilarious I busted out laughing in the middle of it which caused a lot of turned heads my way. This story has a very good pace. I'm enjoying the side characters too.

Oh and the authors notes and side stories. Just still enjoying getting to know her. Very funny and outgoing it seems. I'm tempted to write her and congratulate her on a story well done.

Finally! it’s been a journey and probably they still have more to go through. What I like the best is that we got to see Taka’s history it’s a bit like “Love me, love me not” (another manga, but this is by the “Ao Haru Ride” mangaka).

I see love blooming in the horizon for our mysterious Taka and our favorite shook reporter!

Somehow I'm still invested. I guess I'm still rooting for all the characters.

Kai continues making me hate him, and then somehow pulling himself together just enough to redeem him. He's acting all kinds of wild this time around.

Also, can we just not with the sibling stuff. I don't want it. Let's just move past that and hope it never comes up again.

The story is beginning to stretch thin! I’m not sure what else the creator could do. I didn’t really like the ending story, but I did like the realistic depiction of Takaya’s admission to the journalist. That was the best part.

So good! Lots of laughs, a date between a certain new couple, and finally a closer look at Takanashi. I’m excited to see what happens with the priest kids next (sorry I don’t remember what they’re called!)

Después de ese malentendido por fin están juntos!!!! No me gusta nada que se utilice con tanta frecuencia el tema de los hermanastros enrollados entre ellos, así que espero que el tema acabe zanjado con el final de este tomo.

Holy crap, Riko and Kai become an official couple AND we get Takaya's backstory?! I feel so spoiled right now!

Something I want to quickly discuss is that I appreciate how emotional Kai is. The fact that he shows all of his emotions without hesitation is wonderful and makes him an enjoyable character to watch. I can only imagine how generic this story could have been if Fujisawa had decided to make him the stereotypical bad-boy playboy who keeps his emotions to himself. I love how expressive and emotional he is and makes me want to root for him more. I also love how supportive his friends are. I don't know if I've mentioned that before, but if so, don't care.

What I enjoyed about seeing Kai and Riko become a couple is how determined Kai is to make Riko's first date a success. Even when things don't go well, he still acquiesces to her suggestions because he genuinely wants to make her happy. Their first date was funny and heart-warming in the end, and Kai falling down in joy when Riko gives him a good-bye kiss (as chaste as it is) was so damn cute!

And now, on to Takaya's backstory and why Ayumi is still best girl to end all best girls. Learning that Takaya was in love with his sister (not blood related) was interesting because, unlike Riko's love for her teacher, Takaya and Aya actually had a physical relationship. I don't think they had sex, per se, but it was clear that they at least kissed. I'm glad that, similarly to Riko's love for her teacher, Fujisawa treats this relationship with respect and does not dramatize it or condone it. But most of all, I LOVED how Ayumi helped Takaya get over his feelings in such a sweet way. What I love about this is Ayumi has no obligation to help Takaya. Their relationship is fake and only started, partly at least, to clear up Kai's misunderstanding. The fact that she not only agreed to have dinner with Takaya's family, which she was uncomfortable doing, but stuck around to here Takaya's dilemma AND offered to help him get past it speaks volumes of how caring she is towards others. I was aware of her caring nature towards Riko, but to see it extended to Takaya, whom she only ever saw as fodder for her newspaper articles, was truly incredible. She is a magnificent character in a sea of marvelous characters in this series.

Holy crap, I love this series, just so damn much. It makes me so damn happy and I just love it.

And finally the main couple becomes a thing. Though there's some conflicted communication here, since Riko immediately goes away for the summer, and Kai thinks they're dating now.
I really liked how Riko reacted here—not slapping Kai, but after that. Kai was sure he was going to be rejected, and he wasn't going to run away from it for long. But all of this made Riko rethink their relationship and how Kai has been there for her. It was really sweet.
There is surely more drama to come here, especially when we see their first date, but we also get to focus on the side characters a bit more here. Firstly, Takaya and Ayumi's fake relationship. We discover what's in Takaya's past, what his dark secret is. I'm not a big fan of his past relationship drama, but I like how Ayumi was there to help him when he needed it, and to try to help him move on. I really like their relationship, honestly. I enjoy their dynamic.
This is a really fun shojo series. It feels a little old-shojo but also fresh. It's really a fun read.
