I'm all caught up in this series now. This was another fast moving, exciting adventure for Sarah and Amanda, and eventually Conrad. The whole thing took place in Oregon this time.
Before anything else in the story happened, Sarah adopted an abandoned Husky dog puppy and named her Mittens, who ended up going with them. Sarah had gotten a call from her book agent, Rebecca, that her books were going to be made into movies. Rebecca asked her to come down to Los Angeles the following week.
She and Amanda decided to road trip but they had a flat tire and ended up in Prate, OR. A sweet older man named Nate helped them out and let them stay at his place. Everything started to go south when they were shot at while Nate was driving them to his house.
As usual, Sarah found herself in a situation where she had to be a detective again, even going as far as to call her old partner, Pete, in LA to get info and run checks on the shooter's car. When her agent turns up dead, Sarah starts to take the case a little more personally and knows she has to help or possibly be the next murder victim.
It was pretty exciting especially the take down. Good old Amanda saved the day again. Conrad had even flown to OR so the gang was all together. I loved the new friends in Prate they met, Nate and his buddy Harry. Even the grouchy sheriff ended up being ok. I'm sure by the end of that road trip that Mitten was fully potty-trained! ;)
Book 5 didn't end with an ominous enticement but this book did. Sounds like the next case may have more dealings with LA, we'll all just have to wait and see!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. Side note, I do hope the name switches between Street and Smart got fixed in the final copy as well as the fact that one time it said Mittens was Amanda's dog. Other than that, another quick and thrilling adventure.
This book was not good. Although I liked Nate & Harry, the rest of the book was just not good. First, there is a story issue where Sarah says Mittens belongs to Amanda when Mittens is her dog. Also, what happened to the kitten they found a couple books ago? There hasn't been a mention of that kitten since. Why make it a minor plot point in that book to completely drop it!?! Anyway, the killer is a spoiled rotten little brat & it made it hard to read. Also, the women act like they are in their 60s with the way they act & dress. They are younger than me by a couple years & they things they say, do, act, & dress is not like any woman I know in her 40s. Sarah lived in LA & Amanda in London but they act like back woods women who never have been anywhere or done anything. They don't have to be fashion forward in Alaska but they wear dresses & skirts all the time - even in winter in Alaska during blizzards. It makes no sense. Anyway, rant over but this book was just not good. I would habe given it1 star but I liked Nate.
Sarah received a surprise call from her agent Rebecca...a movie studio wants to buy the rights to turn her books into movies! She and Amanda start on a road trip to LA to meet with Rebecca and discuss details. On the way they end up in Prade, OR with a flat.
A flat that quickly turns into murder. A murder that quickly shows someone is trying to hurt Sarah. Was the book-to-movie a rise to lure Sarah to LA?
These cozies are such great and fun reads. I love Sarah and Amanda's friendship as well as the developing romance between Sarah and Conrad. The writing is so light and fluffy and always enjoyable.
Sarah and Amanda are once again involved in a mystery Sarah gets pulled back into a case that she could not solve as a homicide detective...When an old man stops for the girls after a flat tire and gets pulled into a killing and the mystery surrounding it Sarah tries to figure out the old case and the new one miles away from L.A. With a teenage killer trying to make Sarah redo his father's homicide (the one she couldn't solve) Sarah realizes he is indeed insane from the death of his father. Conrad comes to join Sarah and they tackle the mystery and the murder together.
Another awesome mystery that moves along at a great pace. I love that the author doesn't drag you along with so many red herrings and just throws everything together at the end. It's very satisfying as a reader to get keep with the action thru the whole story. Sarah and Conrad's relationship makes my heart happy (hopefully it won't be dragged out too long, they really need to be together) and Amanda is hoot, absolutely love her!
I really enjoyed this next story with Sarah and Amanda as Sarah was informed by her agent that her books were going to be made into movies so she needed to be in Los Angeles. Rather than fly, they decided to drive from Alaska. Nate, an older gentleman, stopped when Sarah's vehicle got a flat and planned to take them into town. A car suddenly appears, following them in Nate's truck and then begins shooting. So begins this next adventure.
Love the characters in this series of books. Also, the way past mysteries are woven into the current one to help refresh your memory on past events and characters involvement. The story lines keep you interested and you find yourself rooting for the main characters. I love the Cozy Mystery series and Alaska Cozy is on the top of my list.
Lets see how many stories the puppy is in. For a retired cop, Sarah sure has been saved by Amanda a lot. I enjoy the stories and characters but, details. Maybe instead of Amanda doing the saving Sarah could be the hero once in a while. Still no mention of the kitty they found and Amanda had and threw at a bad guy.
Great mystery book. Really loved the characters, and would love to see Nate in future stories. This was a fast paced and high octane read. Love this series, and this book was great. Cannot wait for the next book in this series.
I loved the book. The characters relationships have developed and new friends were made. The loss of a tangential character was rough. I hope her replacement ends up easier to handle. Interesting commentary on modern times.
I have enjoyed finding this series. I had never read a Wendy Meadows book before and Amazon recommended this. I certainly enjoy these quick to read mysteries. And will try other series by her to read.
I just love this series!!! Love the characters that Sarah and Amanda meet! And as always it’s action from beginning to end!!! Thank u Wendy for writing these exciting mystery reads!!! Can’t wait to start book seven in this series!!!
Thank you so much for writing these amazing books. I'm so I enthralled that it takes me away like tv does. I love reading before bedtime, so I can unwind and relax. Cherie A Harlow
These group of characters are all over. In this adventure they are in Oregon and a very small town. Working as a team, they solve a murder and are having to take care of locals.
Another great instalment in the Alaska Cozy Mystery series - this is number 6. I really enjoyed the book and loved the characters. It’s a great story and series which I would highly recommend.
Enjoy this series. Always a gripping mystery with fun and interesting characters. Can't wait to see what happens next! No graphic violence or swearing. Nice cozy mystery.
Once again I chose this rating because it deserved it. The author has a way of keeping the storyline interesting and the characters busy. I would recommend it to anyone.
Talk about action packed. 😊 It started out kinda hum-drum but then it got GOOD. 😯 I'm okay with this series but I'm having doubts that I will finish it. 😕
