Ghost: a Paranormal Ghost Romance (Damned Series Book 1)
What happens if you could suddenly see ghosts? With amnesia?
Cassie Hunter wakes to find a man with serious green eyes staring down at her in the morgue, but her initial confusion turns to absolute horror when she realises this man has been dead for over seventy years.
Elliot Stone doesn’t know he’s dead. Or how he came to end up in the morgue. Or why he can’t keep his eyes off the sexy doctor. Or anything else, for that matter.
But the truth is, the family curse has awakened. Something Cassie went out of her way to prevent from happening. How can she turn away the soulful, amnesiac detective who strikes a chord in her like no—living—man has ever been able to do?
Ghost is a powerful new paranormal romance series that will captivate your imagination. Follow Cassie on her journey through perilous dimensions of reality to fight for the love of her life.

A murder mystery, a ghost story, and a romance novel!
Ghost by Charmaine Ross is a ghost story, mystery, and a romance all rolled into one. A doctor is "gifted" with the sight to see ghosts the same as her mother. It started the day she hit her head at work. From the first dead patient, she tries to help him and it leads to a murder mystery. She ends up seeing two ghosts that day, one when she yells out for help! It's an interesting story and enjoyable.
Dr Cassie Hunter regains consciousness in the morgue of the hospital where she works as a cardiologist. She has a vague recollection of how she got there, but where did the handsome detective come from and why is he wearing clothes more suited to the 1930’s? Then one of her patients, who was very much alive when she left him, walks into the morgue with a simple request – find his will, and Cassie realises something startling – they’re both ghosts. In truth, it would be more of a shock if it weren’t for her mother, a woman who’s always been terrified of the things she could see, wasn’t cursed with a similar ability. Cassie knows it meant the world to her mum that neither she or her sister inherited that ability, but clearly that’s all changed.
Cassie soon learns she has an important part to play in not only helping her recently deceased patient, but also helping Elliot because apart from his name, he has no idea who he was or how long he’s been in limbo. A pity the road to uncovering the truth never runs smoothly. There’s her patient’s murder to solve, Elliot’s past to uncover, battling strange creatures intent on crossing into her reality and stealing the life forces from all they touch, and of course there’s a growing attraction between herself and a man she can see and hear but never touch. And in the process, if Cassie’s not careful, she’s going to lose more than her hard-won reputation and her heart. She may even lose her soul.
The characters in this story are written so vividly they almost step off the page. Elliot’s 1930’s demeanour is a mix of old-fashioned charm and manners combined with sheer frustration regarding his thoughts of women are capable of and how they should behave. Cassie’s a contemporary woman, a doctor leading in her field, and her reaction to Elliot’s mannerisms makes for interesting reading. This book covers a variety of paranormal happenings, but Ms Ross does well with her world building. An enjoyable read.
This book was between three and four stars I settled on three due to a good bit of the plot being overly predictable in terms of the bad guys and the ending just dong a bit of a loose wrapping up leading to a second book. Yes it did say it was book one so it wasn’t a total surprise just wished the ending didn’t feel so rushed. Plus some of the plot points did not make any logical sense as to why she was suddenly in trouble with the hospital.
Cassie’s ability to see ghosts has suddenly manifested, having grown up with her mother who almost lost her mind from having this ability does not make Cassie see this awakening in a good light. However a very chivalrous ghost Elliot has taken her under his wing and she is having second thoughts on getting rid of this new gift/curse.
As Cassie struggles to deal with what other side effects she may encounter like all ghosts suddenly coming to seek her out and clearing her name at the hospital. She is also trying to help Elliot remember his past life and how he became a ghost.
The story does have some very touching moments along with some levity and it does move along in its own fashion. Trying to make a romantic connection with someone in the ghost realm is definitely a bit outside the norm and the author does try to come up with slightly plausible ways that such a relationship might work.
There is some resolution to some of the storyline while the rest of the story is somewhat addressed in book 2. The book is a light read. There are times when it seems to sort of go off on a tangent.
First of all, I live in Melbourne, Australia which is also where this book was set which is seriously awesome! It was great to see names of places that I know. Secondly, I genuinely love the writing style of the author...BUT there are very obvious spelling errors and occasionally an entire word is left out. I understand that self-publishing authors can’t often afford a professional editor however these are mistakes that could have been picked up easily by beta readers (if they were even used) and certainly by ARC readers (if they were also used). One or two mistakes is forgivable but if enough eyes are looking at the manuscript then a book shouldn’t make it to ‘book shelves’ with errors like this. It’s such a damn shame because I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the book, the errors just keep snagging me along the way and pulling me out of the story. There’s also a few minor continuity issues and the pacing of the h’s relationship with the H’s is a bit too fast - sure they have an instant attraction but there isn’t really a time where they sit down and just talk and get to know each other, compare notes on differences, nothing. It makes the serious element of their relationship feel a bit...flimsy. I just wanted more depth to their relationship. Good book overall though and with some proper editing and care the book could be even better.
How would you handle the fact that from one moment to the other you were able to see ghosts and interact with them? This is what happens to Cassie. After bumping her head she woke up and found out that she could see and talk to ghosts. At first she rejects the “gift” but realizes throughout the book that by helping the ghosts move on is part of the greater good. Cassie handles this change in her life in a realistic way going through all the emotional struggles: denial, anger, frustration, acceptance and determination. The “gift” not only enables her to help souls go to the afterlife but she also meets the love of her life: Elliot. Unfortunately he is a ghost but this doesn’t stop their feelings for each other and their determination to find a way to be together. They work together to help souls move on and and find a solution to make their relationship work. I liked the book a lot. Cassie was a like able and relatable character that I was able to connect to. I also liked the fact that Cassie not only has Elliot to help her but also her sister Laura enabling her to have help both in the ghostly realm as is in the “human” realm. I can’t wait to read book 2 and find out what is going to happen.

I had to stop reading the third installment to give my review, as I jumped immediately in the next book to see what will happen. While the first book presented the characters and the world they are living in. Here we travel in a new dimension, in Ghost, we had a short insight of the outside world, a kind of purgatory. In Spirit, the action takes place in a part of the grey-mist, a demented version of it, while Cassie and Elliot are running to get Laura, Cassie’s sister back on Earth. While Elliot and Cassie struggled with their feelings and inability to touch while they are on earth, in the world of the dead, they are on equal feet, Elliot is no more a shadow. The storyline continues to develop, bringing more revelations and more questions. After a glimpse of Cassie’s work and environment in Ghost, we are transported in an altered version of Elliot’s time, and a vision of his life too. I adored the twits and turns the story took, giving Elliot and Cassie a chance to be together even if for a short moment, we have an other view of their relationship and also of their strength and the bond they share. It was why I couldn’t wait to read more, each new chapter sucked me in this incredible story, and I wanted to learn more, to see where the author will lead her characters.
OMG! I loved this story!! So moving!!! Cassie is a Dr and has just taken a tumble, which was orchestrated. When she wakes there are gorgeous green eyes looking into her eyes. She' s a triffle confused till she realizes this was the second time sheet blacked out. This second time was caused by seeing the body of the man she had had as a patient and his gift standing next to her. She's coming closer to hyperventilating and thinking she's going as crazy as she thought her mom was. Then she realizes and can see and talk to ghosts!! One especially to whom she's drawn as he to her. The adventure of her life and his after life begins!!

Although I liked the premise of the storyline, I felt that it dragged on much too long and the author, if she had taken more time with the climax, could have and probably should have ended it in one book. I really don't like cliffhangers because like a sequel in the movies, they rarely live up to the hype surrounding them. In my opinion, a book should have a beginning, middle and an end, all one story. Then, if the audience wants a backstory or one of the other character's story, then it could be told in another book. Every character deserves their own story and HEA. But, like I said, the storyline was painfully slow in places and then rushed at the end. This could all have been resolved in one book.
I received this book from Voracious Readers for an honest review. I liked the premise of this book. A female doctor gets knocked unconscious and wakes up to find that she can see ghosts, one of which she starts to have feelings for. He is a ghost who didn't realize he was dead and doesn't remember anything from his own past. Together they need to help another man who appeared to Cassie. During this time they encounter the Soul-Eater, a terrifying monster who can affect both the living and the dead. I enjoyed the arc of the story and where it went. The only thing I didn't like..... The cliffhanger to end it! So I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Imagine taking a hard bump to the head, then suddenly being able to see ghosts! And they need her help. Not only trying to help them move on, but also to find the reason they didn't move on as soon they were deceased. Add in a crooked law firm, a crooked doctor and a soul-eater and the action never stops. Cassie is determined to help the ghosts, no matter what. The problem is that she loses her heart to one of them. Well written, good plot and characters. Great read!
This paranormal romance is only the 1st part of what is now a 3-part series. There's a cliffhanger, so if you like the book, make sure you've bought the other books in the series so you won't have to wait to continue! It's a wonderful romance reminding me so much of "Ghost" or "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir". (I know. I'm showing my age.) The magnetism between the characters is great and it will give you the good kind of goosebumps.
I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Ok this story is so cool! A ghost man doesn't know he is a ghost, has no memory of dying and is a detective. He wants to solve his own death and the sexy blonde doctor lady who is living in a time he doesn't understand is the only one who can help. This story is super well written and very original. I enjoyed it greatly.

This was not my cup of tea. It just seemed rather simplistic with lots of different afterlife beliefs thrown into the mix and ended with a "teaser." I think it was supposed to entice the reader to get the next book to see what happens next with the main duo but honestly, my reaction was "meh!" I'll just go back and rewatch the TV show "Spirited." It's much more enjoyable.
Loved this book. Read it in three days was very gripping. The main problem I found was that there are alot of typos and the events in the story seem to happen very quickly and then they are gone. Think that some of the events could be beefed up a bit. Other than that the storyline is very interesting and I'm now about to start book two.
A good paranormal story about a doctor that after been pushed to the floor can see and talk to Ghost. By doing that she is drawn into a mystery of a testament from her former now dead patient. The book is a combination of a mystery and romance. I liked it but no more than so..
This is one story I want to read again a well-written story that kept my interest until the last page. I am looking forward to reading the second book in this series.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I finished Ghost in a single sitting. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The concept is really interesting of a human falling in love with a ghost. This is a must read. Looking forward to reading more books from this author.
What do you do if suddenly had the ability to see ghosts
