3.5🌟 Audiobook (narrated by Angie Hickman) I enjoyed this romantic suspense, although I was frustrated when the serial killer got away at the end. I know that isn’t the author’s fault. The Red Rose Killer is the villain through the entire series, so he can’t be caught until the last book.
Robin’s Ratings 5🌟 = Out of this world. Amazing. Unforgettable. A personal favorite. 4🌟 = Loved/really enjoyed it. Will recommend to others. 3🌟 = Liked it. Glad I read it. Engaging/entertaining/interesting. 2🌟 = The book was okay, but I’ve enjoyed other books so much more. 1🌟 = For whatever reason, I didn’t like it and can’t recommend it.
Things are heating up in the desperate search for serial killer Boyd Sullivan and his elusiveness is driving me mad!!!! This is the fifth book in the Military K-9 Unit continuity series and we are still no closer to nabbing this loathsome villain. These series usually run to six books but this one goes clear through until December so we are months away from any real resolution. Gah!
In this installment we get to know Ava and Oliver better...and wonder-dog Roscoe, of course, who does his canine team proud with his valiant service. I mean, seriously, he rappels out of a helicopter! (with a little help from Ava, but still.) I love how this series highlights the different kinds of service the K-9 soldiers provide.
You might think that FBI and Military don't mix, what with fighting over jurisdiction and all, but while Oliver and Ava might nitpick over some things, they are professional enough to put the monumental task of stopping the Red Rose Killer ahead of any disagreements. Love the way they come together for the greater good -- both strong in their chosen field but respectful of the other.
And unlike most heroes and heroines, these two talk to each other! I think that's my favourite part of the romance. They are upfront with their feelings -- both the attraction they feel for each other and the reasons they pull back. There's still lots of tension, but it's out in the open and we all understand what's at stake and why it's so hard for them to battle through their pasts. It was refreshing to see how they dealt with the knowledge -- their capacity to understand and eventually, move forward.
And now I'm on tenterhooks for book 6 -- Explosive Force by Lynette Eason -- which is teetering on the top of my TBR pile right now. Happy sigh.
Ava was my favorite character in this installment of this series about catching an escaped serial killer. More red roses are showing up around base and the tension is running high. Obviously I didn’t expect him to get caught in this novel (since it’s only halfway through the series) but I thought the tension built well.
This book is awful. The title is misleading as is the book's description. I am up to Chapter 16 of 20 and we have had 30 seconds of rescue and passing mentions of MWD and a lot of gag reflex romance. The book is poorly written. This was my first book in the series and it will be my last. Disappointed.
RESCUE OPERATION by Lenora Worth is fifth book in the Military K-9 Unit series. It’s the well-crafted, edge of your seat suspense story of Senior Airman Ava Esposito, a Special Forces Military Working Dog hander, working as part of a team, including her golden coated Labrador retriever K-9 named Roscoe, to find a missing seven year old – Turner, son of Colonel Gregory and Mrs. Marilyn Johnson.
The story is based around Canyon Air Force Base in the Hill Country of Texas. Shortly into the operation Ava has a face to face encounter with Boyd Sullivan, also known as the Red Rose Killer, for the red rose he left as his calling card, and who had escaped from prison where he was serving time for his many crimes. This search and rescue mission has just taken on a whole new urgency factor. They need to find the missing little boy before Boyd find him and while keeping everyone safe from the Red Rose Killer.
FBI Special Agent Oliver Davison has history with Boyd - one of his victims had been his fiancé. He was in on the hunt, arrest and seeing Boyd sent to prison. His escape left Oliver with a strong need to see that he be recaptured and returned to prison to pay for the crimes he’d done and before he can follow through on more of his red rose threats – including one given to Ava.
Although they butt heads at the beginning, it soon becomes apparent that the two cases – finding Tanner and recapturing Boyd – more than likely are intertwined thus the need for them to work together. They both soon learn of the other’s strengths, which only rises the admiration for the work they both do, and their faults, which makes me both human. Together they make an admirable team and with Roscoe added to the mix in they are determine to get their man. They are also hoping that they can find the many K9’s turned loose during one of Boyd’s crime sprees. Along the way, that admiration turns just a little bit more personal. Can they mix work with friendship? If they can work through their individual pasts so that they might even be able to see a way to becoming just a bit more. How many times can Boyd stay just out of their grasp? Will they find Tanner and reunite him with his parents?
RESCUE OPERATION is a great, clean read that will have you turning pages as you’re hoping they find the little boy safe and sound, anxious about Boyd’s presence wondering who will have the upper hand when their paths cross, and hoping that two strong willed people will figure out that they are perfect team – both on and off work. Lenora Worth kept the excitement brewing while the romance simmers in the background all wrapped in a thread of faith that all adds up to a perfect recipe for an inspirational romantic suspense story that you will not only love, but will want to share so others can read it as well. It can most definitely be read as a standalone book even though part of a series. Just know that the Red Rose Killer is a part that is woven through the whole series. Each book in the series has its own mysteries and romances that make them readable as individual books. I give this author and this book a great big FIVE STARS!
I am placing the review on book 5 of the Military K-9 Series, but the review pertains to books 1-5 which I have read. These 5 book show total disrespect for the military women and men who daily place their lives at risk to keep this country safe and free.
The series states they have no military experience but they referred to friends who did have that type of experience. Yet they made the following mistakes: 1. Went to the BX to buy dry goods. Base Exchange (BX) is where you go to buy uniforms and accessories, civilian clothes, and even order cars. You do not buy groceries. 2. Commissaries do not have cooks working within. It is a place where individuals and units can buy food for themselves or for their feeding establishment. This is your grocery store. 3. Enlisted members of the military do not salute other enlisted members. The enlisted member who is the boss can be referred to by rank, Master Sergeant; name, Bob; or title, sir, ma’am, or boss. There are very few instances when an enlisted members salutes another enlisted member as in Morning Roll Call. 4. Enlisted members always salute officers outside of a building. Inside they only salute once when the senior ranking officer enters the building to begin work. Enlisted member does salute inside a building when told to report to an officer. 5. Security Forces since the 1990s include both the “cops” who secure the base with or without K-9 support and “cops” who guard the safety of people on and within the boundaries of the base. MP is a designation of “cops” who work for the Army, not the Air Force. MP stands for Military Police. The Air Force use to have AP (Air Police) which now makes up the total Security Forces. 6. Military personnel, especially enlisted people, eat at their unit’s Dining Facility (Air Force) or Mess Hall (Army and Marines). There are food establishments on base to buy food as well as some military establishments have food trucks that are allowed on base to sell food. 7. When an enlisted member is outside in uniform and comes upon two or more officers, they never greet the officers as “Sirs”. This is no plural Sir in the military. The enlisted member salutes the senior ranking officer and referees to them as “Sir or Ma’am” depending on the gender. You know the gender because all junior officers in the group walk to the left of or behind the senior officer.
I totally regret having spent my money of these 5 books.
The author(s) did not even take the time to do a google search for the meaning of BX, MP, Military Commissary, etc.
It became obvious that the author or authors were only writing a book for their own monetary gain. I feel the author(s) spat on the graves of those service members who gave their lives for our freedom. Yes, they died so you, the author(s), can spit on their grave. They died with the pride of serving this country. They died not for monetary gain since they are the least paid people in the USA but for their love of country just like their brothers and sisters are doing today around the world.
"Rescue Operation" is a romantic suspense. It's part of a series but works as a standalone. First off, no case was solved: they didn't catch the serial killer, they didn't uncover his accomplice, they didn't figure out who the blogger leaking classified information was (even though it should be easy due to the limited number of people knowing the information). While Ava was sure trying to do her job, Oliver was so distracted by trying to protect her than he didn't follow up on leads or go after the killer in a timely manner. Oliver was almost stalker-obsessed with Ava, and she somehow decided this was love. Even though she knew he had major control issues and didn't respect her, she agreed to marry him after two weeks of knowing him, and they had a rushed marriage. I really expected better than this in a Christian romance.
Oliver said he couldn't control his urge to protect Ava, so of course he didn't even try. This often meant he prevented her from doing her job and sometimes even kept her from protecting herself. For example, he refused Ava's request for his gun to return fire while he was driving and instead he did a dangerous driving maneuver and did the shooting himself. When she tried to set reasonable boundaries on their relationship, he just bulldozed over her to get his own way. One time she made a reasonable request that he, injured in the leg, not try to track the killer through the woods. He replied, "I don't take orders from you" then thought she was so headstrong (not him, of course) and resented she wanted things that differed from his desires. He interpreted her wanting to do her job that she's trained for as recklessness--and he's the reckless one. Why would I want her to end up with this jerk?
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Rescue Operation. This is the fifth book in the continuity series, Military K-9 Unit. I have really enjoyed this series but of course I would; they are all of my favorite authors. This story is well written, action packed, and full of faith. I know you are going to love it.
Senior Airman Ava Esposito is rappelling from a helo with her canine partner. They are out searching for a seven year old boy that was abducted from his own back yard. Suddenly they were being shot at. She refused to abort the mission. when she lands she find herself face to face with the Red Rose Killer. For some reason known only to him he disappears into the woods saying "I'm not here to hurt you, tell your man to back off. Pretend you never saw me." Why would he do that? Why won't the FBI guy she calls believe her?
FBI Agent Oliver Davidson is on the trail of the serial killer. He had a hard time believing the killer would meet her face to face and not harm her. His investigation seems to overlap the search and rescue of the young boy. He keeps meeting Ava and her partner, it only makes sense to join forces. He feels he must help keep her and the boy safe.
A journey to find the missing boy and the serial killer while staying out of the cross-hairs of the killer and whoever is helping him. God has a plan for these two, a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too, a plan for a hope and a future. Give Him your heart wand watch Him turn your life around.
I love this author. She's a favorite author of mine. She writes the most neat books and she doesn't disappoint you. This book you meet 2 people who have lost people they care about. We meet Ava Esposito who works with the military K-9 unit and Oliver Davison who works for the FBI. This is a neat story to read for they are trying to find a child that has gone missing in the woods. On top of it the Boyd Sullivan ( the Red Rose killer) is in there with his accomplise. What I like about this story is the twist and turns in the story. You never know which way the story will turn. Its really interesting, for in each story they find a few of the dogs that have been let lose by Sullivan, in the original story Mission to Protect were 200 let lose. The child is found. Then Sullivan steals the child again. We also find out his accomplise is female. Hmm were will this go next? I love the twists and turns in this book. Its well written and worth a read.
Military K-9 Unit #5–Lenora Worth. FBI special agent Oliver Davison was introduced at the beginning of the series and made several appearances, very briefly, in the other books. I was very happy to see him warrant a book of his own and I loved the story between him and Airman Ava Esposito. Both of these characters deserved their own story. The book starts out with Ava and her partner Roscoe searching the woods for a lost child when she stumbles across the RRK’s campsite. Things get very dicey for Ava because the RRK and his accomplice are out to kill her and the child she rescued.
Ava, K-9 airman, Oliver, FBI, have been thrown together to find the Red Rose Killer and his accomplice.
The static was strong but both fought it. Neither one wanted a relationship at this time. Ava was a K-9 Handler in search and rescue for the Air Force. Oliver was a long time FBI with ties to one of the women killed earlier by the Rose killer. Both want the killer caught quickly as this time he has kidnapped the Generals son. They and more FBI and Special Forces K-9 units are hot on the murder and his hidden accomplice. Exciting, terrifying, and to good to put down.
this is another great story in the series. i got the book from Harlequin , i loved the dog and the puppy, looking forward to the next book, i could not put the book down finished it in one night. if you have read any of the other books you have to read this one Ava is a member of the dog unit but was a pilot Oliver is FBI and has been on the case from the beginning they have to learn to work to gether
Not at the standard of others in this series. The dialogue was choppy and cliche and character development was weak. Combined with lots of plot holes and implausible scenarios it tarnished the whole storyline of the series. Felt like a lazy rewrite of many other love inspired novels.
Have been enjoying this series, this book was a little low, some parts were repetitive. All in all I enjoyed it. A little disappointed the person helping the Red Rose Killer was not caught. Happy that Oliver and Ava was moving pass the hurt in their previous relationships.
Love reading about S&R dogs. This Military K-9 Unit series, although each book has a story ending, continues to try to find The Red Rose Killer. The series is written by several authors, another plus. We get a different view in each book. Great series, on to #6, Explosive Force, author is Lynette Eason. Please read from #1, as you will miss the history of the chase.
Well, the hunt for Boyd Sullivan is getting more tense. More sightings and actual interaction with him this time. I was tempted to purchase final book of series to find out what happens, but each story is so good, I don't want to miss anything. The spirituality and commitment of the characters are admirable and give the reader a positive boost.
Lots of action here and two emotionally guarded people that you want to root for. Ava loved and lost a man to combat. Oliver was engaged and lost to the Red Rose killer. But Roscoe has the biggest role - good dog!
I have been following the Military K-9 Unit Stories from the beginning and all other stories are great and even though they can be read as an alone it is better if you read from book one..
I liked the plot points of the military working dogs and the PTSD/survivors guilt. The rest was fluff. The ancillary characters were more notable than the main. I'd read the rest of the series if I got it for free also.
Very good read with lots of action. I want them to capture " The Red Rose Killer," but then the series would end, and I'm not ready for it to end! Hurry in next book!
