Halloween Candy with a Side of Murder Daley Buzz Cozy Mystery, Volume 6 By: Meredith Potts Narrated by: Lisa Beacom This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I love this series but I get hungry every time I listen to any of them...hum! This one was no different, lol! I enjoy the characters, the plot, the terrific mystery that always stumps me, the great clues, and the sweet romance...not sloppy and over sexed, just sweet and nice! The narrator does a great job of keeping voices different and enjoyable. Good performance!
For me this one has been the most interesting case so far. These books are heavily weighted on the crimes without much personal details about our leading lady Sabrina. An arrow kills our victim the question is who has that good of an aim.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I’m enjoying this series as an in car easy listen.
This is the first Daley Buzz book I picked up, so maybe that was the problem. But the mc Sabrina had zero personality. And I really don't think a detective would question people without taking them to the station. And was he her boyfriend? Just friends? Who knows? Only the grandma had any personality.
Another great mystery story. When a Real Estate Tycoon starts trying to buy out small businesses by placing a large franchise store next to it so the business will fail and he can buy it cheaper, Than a women is killed with an arrow. She was a friend of Sabrina's. Now Sabrina and David have a murder to solve. There re plenty of twists and turns in this story.
Sebrina Daley manages the family owned coffee Shop, Daley Buzz. When her boyfriend, Detective David Carlson has a murder to investigate, she can't help but get involved. As a result of her involvement in previous cases, he trusts her instincts and surprises her by requesting her help with his latest case.
The victim is a young woman, who was murdered while aboard her husband’s yacht. The yacht was moored at the pier and nobody saw or heard anything….
During the initial investigation, no one wants to talk to them, which makes their job all that much more difficult. Determining the motive and finding the person responsible will be a major challenge.
Why was she killed? Why did the killer choose this method? Will David and Sebrina be able to clear up the mystery before one of them is attacked or killed?
This story grabbed me from the start and didn’t want to let go. There are numerous characters with motives or at least grudges, who could be guilty of the crime. The characters are all local residents and Meredith Potts keeps adding new people to each book in the series. These books are best read in order, but can also be read as a stand-alone.
October, a time of year I like to think of as Halloween time, is generally when my horror and, to a lesser extent, mystery loving self gets to really come out to play. So, when something with Halloween candy and murder in the title appeared in the recommendations section of my audible page, I jumped in with both hands and feet.
I went into this with high expectations, believing that the literary goodies promised in the blurb awaited me, if only I would take the author’s hand and come beyond the gate.
Well, imagine you’re going through your candy at the end of a particularly successful night of trick-or-treating. Your parents or guardians have carefully examined the contents of your pumpkin/pillowcase/potato sack, and they’ve removed the suspect pieces (well, they’ve confiscated some that were perfectly fine but which they wanted for themselves).
You thank everything over and under the son that they left the lone king-sized chocolate bar for you.
You tear it open, anticipating a mouth full of chocolatey, pea nutty, ooy, gooey decadence.
You take a gigantic bite and, and, and, aaaaaaaand Nope. Just nope
Your taste buds retreat, on mass, from the unholy insult of it all. Disgusted, you toss the entire thing into the trash, console your outraged taste buds with something sweeter and call it good.
This was my experience with this book. After gritting my teeth and slogging through Joanne Fluke’s crapsterpieces, I have a zero-tolerance for anything less than competent writing.
Sadly, this was…less than competent writing.
It is not my normal practice to DNF any book; I know that some books take a few chapters to get going, and with mysteries, the murder is the catalyst for all of the action.
I therefore gave this installment of the Daily Buzz Mysteries series 9 chapters (roughly 32%) to do what it promised. Beyond this point, I could bear it no longer.
The book opens with an interrogation scene taken right out of an episode of Scooby Doo. About the only things missing were the convoluted boobie-trap, dramatic unmasking and the embittered cry of “I’d have gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids!” Add to that the sheer, and rather convenient, stupidity of the interviewee (I was yelling at the guy to demand a lawyer almost from the beginning) and the grumbles from my taste buds began.
“We have a witness who saw you running into your family’s bistro”
“That can’t be; there wasn’t anyone out there that night!”
Seriously?
He’s such a dumb criminal that he didn’t come back with “That can’t be; I wasn’t there!”?
More importantly, they’re questioning this person in his apartment, and they’ve apparently got enough for an arrest, but they’re taking the time to get him to incriminate himself in the comfort of his home?
Me, I’d have tossed them out of my home and called my lawyer immediately, because I haven’t been formally arrested, and I’m not in the box. If you and the barista have enough for an arrest, cuff me, transport me to the local police station, and we’ll take it from there. Till then, you and your civilian girlfriend can get the hell out of my apartment, now.
To continue, I’m not buying the relationship between Sabrina and David; there’s no real chemistry there, and their interactions seem to be more about him stamping out her emotional conclusions with his logical ones. I could be wrong (paranoid reader here; it’s right in the profile), but the authorial intent behind those interactions seems clear enough, and I am not here for it.
She always, without fail, speculates wildly and arrives at far-fetched conclusions. David immediately comes back with something that makes more sense. She doesn’t argue but takes it as truth and moves on. There is little to no debate. It's almost like she was deliberately written to be dependent on David's superior intellect, or something.
On a side note, had I the slightest inclination to continue this book, I’m sure I would find the minimal focus on the romance to be quite refreshing.
To continue with the continuing, this book is in serious want of concrete language. The characters and setting read like colorless, generic illustrations you might find in an old Dick and Jane reader. Everything, from Sabrina’s apartment, to her coffee shop, to the beach, to Treasure Cove itself reads as two-dimensional and colorless.
Also, the characterization is lazy. I get no sense of our heroine, and the other characters are either stereotypes (I rather like the Wiccan character, though), or “[tissues] of” rather unimaginative “quotations” (Barthes). Don’t believe me? Take for example the dastardly, diabolical, elegant mustache twirling real estate developer and his plans to take over Treasure Cove once and for all, Muahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
Take any line ever uttered by any greedy, unfeeling capitalist caricature villain from any 90s cartoon and you’ve got Jake.
I made it all the way to Sabrina and David’s hostile interrogation of the victim’s husband before I seriously, seriously considered throwing the metaphorical candy bar in the trash.
They put him on the defensive almost immediately, never offered their condolences, and they neglected to ask him where he was during the time of the murder.
And again, why is the barista along for this ride?
Finally, I could tell almost immediately that the heroine was going to be the helpmate in the equation rather than the sole or principle investigator. At that point, I swallowed what I’d bitten and punted the remaining metaphorical chocolate onto the DNF shelf.
Halloween Candy with a Side of Murder: Daley Buzz Cozy Mystery, Volume 6 by Meredith Potts, narrated by Lisa Beacom is an entertaining addition to this fun series! Of course, Sabrina is again on the case, and she's not stopping until she hears...or should I say demands to hear...the truth. I have to admit, I would NOT want to be the one sitting there being questioned. They do not give up; I almost felt bad for a few of the suspects in the beginning. Well, almost.... :-) All the volumes in this series that I've listened to have held my attention from start to finish, but I found this one (Vol. 6) to be the most engaging. I really liked it, and even though it would make a fun Halloween-time listen, it is definitely not a requirement. Right now, it's the middle of summer, and I enjoyed it just as much as I would have if it were October 31st. At just over 3 hours, it's perfect for an afternoon at home or a weekly drive to work. I like each of the audiobooks written by Meredith Potts, but the shorter ones, like this one, mesh so perfectly with my daily schedule that I keep coming back for more. Keep up the great work! :-)
Lisa Beacom's performance as narrator was great! She uses voices that allowed me to easily differentiate who is speaking at the time, and her clear enuciation of words made for a pleasant listening experience. We all know there's nothing worse than having to hit the 30-second rewind button over and over because we can't understand the narrator. Well, none of that exists here, and because of it, I was able to sit back, relax, and do some sleuthing of my own! Thank you!
Halloween Candy with a Side of Murder: Daley Buzz Cozy Mystery, Volume 6 by Meredith Potts, narrated by Lisa Beacom deserves a rating of 5/5 stars. The length is perfect, it's entertaining throughout, and I couldn't help but laugh out loud at some of the comments! Ha! While it is part of a series, it could be considered a stand-alone. If you are a fan of cozies, I think this is one you will really enjoy!
Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was helpful. :-)
Halloween Candy with a Side of Murder Daley Buzz Cozy Mystery, Volume 6 By: Meredith Potts
"Halloween is still a week away, but disturbing things are already starting to occur in Sabrina Daley's picturesque hometown of Treasure Cove. First, a local

to treat herself to some candy, or will her Halloween night end with a deadly trick? "
The two reaccuring themes in this series are there are no security cameras in Treasure Cove except for Sabrina's new one; and the time of death is always a one hour
time period.
The latest murder victim has difficulties with her husband, his ex-wife, their daughter, the woman husband was cheating with, Allison's ex-boyfriend, co-worker, members
of the archery leauge. A nice big group of suspects to investigate.
Sabrina and David question all the suspects, trying to find the truth. They will solve it!!!
The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed. Lisa Beacom does this series well.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Certainly don't want to trick Sabrina & David, they will catch you! This 6th installment to the Daley Buzz series continues it quirky humor and murder mystery in the town of Treasure Cove. This small town does not get a break! This time, the story starts with the burning of a local business, followed by a murder. Are the two intertwined? Sabrina and David are out together again, gathering evidence and interrogating suspects. These two are relentless, and hope they catch their culprit! And what is Jake's next move? I love the interactions of all the characters, but I really enjoyed Sabrina and Jake in this story. Their banter is priceless and in the end, we know Sabrina is going to keep her town with it's home town feel. Potts continues to entertain me with her cozy series and I look forward to the next one.
Lisa Beacom is amazing. I turn the story on, and I know exactly which character is speaking. I love her ability to act through the story, her consistency from book to book and the fact that she can make me laugh even during dire circumstances. She is great!
Well if you have read or listen to the book by Meredith Potts you will be loving to listen or read the book in her series and i have got all of them they are great books.
The story tell you about the area of Treasures Cove people who live there and then who dies on the island My boyfriend and i found that Todd had burn the bistro for his dad for the insurance it was the Real Estate agent had another place open across the street from them and was taking the money that why they burn it down.
So now thing are getting weird David said they found another dead and i figured it was Allison she did not come in for coffee and i figured some thing was wrong. Now David told me Allison was killed and why know i have to find who murder her.
Well the first one to ask question are the husband and then the family and then any one who was pissed at her for something her step daughter had a motive and then now we are going to find out who did it and why we are going to find out who did it
Treasure Cove has Sabrina and David trying to solve another murder. This time it hits too close to home for Sabrina. She is devastated by the loss of a good friend. This is the 6th book I have read in this series, and they are all so entertaining. I really enjoyed this story, but missed the interaction of Sabrina’s family that I so enjoyed in the last book. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see what is up for Sabrina, David, Lucy and Joe and the rest of the Treasure Cove citizens. Love that this series is clean, and can be read by anyone without offending them with bad language or inappropriate material. A big high-5 to Ms. Potts for writing such wonderful books. Totally recommend this book to all cozy mystery lovers.

Sabrina is upset to find out that her friend, Allison, has been murdered. Her sheriff, boyfriend, David invites her to help investigate. The most interesting thing about the book is the method of the murder.
If I had realized when I purchased this book that it was number six in the series, I would not have read it because I don't like reading series out of order. I was not impressed by the character development especially since this is the sixth book. The storyline is thin and wraps up way too easily. This is not a series that I will continue.
Another great mystery from Meredith Potts. I couldn't put it down so needless to say I read it in one setting. I really enjoy all of this author's books. They are a fast read and the characters are believable and I could seriously be friends with them. This series is a cozy mystery so no gore or foul language. Her books always gets me hooked from the beginning and guessing until the end. I can't wait for the next book from her. If you like mysteries this book and series is for you.
I am normally a fan of cozy mysteries, however this trend of Police Detectives having their coffee shop girlfriends solving murder cases has kind of put me off of cozy mysteries. Especially when the suspects all respond with the same tired line like this one: " I don't like where you are going with this. " Sorry but I didn't find any creativity in either this or book one in this series. News flash... Homicide Detectives are normally the cream of the crop in police departments, at least they were in the one I worked in.
Treasure Cove is a nice small town with a lot of friendly people. Usually. Sabrina is a barrista in the family coffee shop, David is the local detective and they are a couple as well as a murder investigation team. The town's current problems are a business shark who uses shady tactics to make small businesses sell out so he can build chain stores and the murder by archery of one of Sabrina's friends. The investigation turns up some nasty things and gets dangerous but go ahead and enjoy! Lisa Beacom is great as narrator for Ms Pott's books!
After months of peace and quiet in Treasure Cove, Sabrina Daley and her boyfriend, Detective David Carlson, are happy that the town has returned to normal. Their peace is shattered when they are called to the marina where a body was discovered with an arrow through the heart. The search for the murderer will make them a target.
This is another good mystery cozy by Meredith Potts. She is quickly becoming my go-to author for cozy mysteries. The characters are relatable and there are always some twists to keep things interesting.
Another simple police procedural with an amateur sleuth. Sabrina Daily and her boyfriend, Detective David Carlson, are back on the case. This time the victim was killed by an arrow through the heart. All of the suspects, as could be expected, are members of the local archery league. The case all comes down to an event near the end of the story. Unfortunately, don't expect the evidence to be shared until the final reveal.
Sabrina finds herself craving Halloween candy but finds there is more things dangerous than over indulging in mini chocolates bars.
She and her police boyfriend finds that a local restaurant has burnt down and one of her local patron is found dead. Can these two items be related? The two of them set out to find the real story behind things.
Once again Treasure Cove is hit with violence. Another quick cozy read.
This was a fun, quick read. The murder was interesting with all sorts of interesting suspects. But the investigation and questioning of the suspects was very repetitive. Everyone of them said. "I didn't do it and even though I can't prove I'm innocent, I am so go away and find the real killer." And all of this was said while yelling at the police. A little variety in the conversations would have been appreciated. I would recommend this for an afternoon read.
Sabrina is determined to find out who the killer is of one of her regular customers at her coffee shop. She also is fighting with a billionaire who is buying out all the mom and pop stores and replacing them with chained stores. Then an old well known restaurant is burned down. This calls for some serious thinking and lots of her favorite candy to help Sabrina solve the case. Can she do it? Read the book to find out. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
I really enjoy the characters in this series. I had received a new series by this author and quickly realized that bit was the same character but I was missing some of the story. I realized I hadn't finished this series. So I am playing catch up. I had pretty much narrowed it down to two suspects in this case. I got such a kick out of Sabrina and her grandmother and their love of candy. The exchange in Costlow had me in stiches.
A great read but I felt that something was just missing from this book. A death by arrow is a novelty in town. However our two sleuths decide to work together to try to sort this out. With more suspects and motives then you can shake a stick at this is a really good read. However I have read something extremely similar to this before and the first book I read had far more tension in it. That is why this has only got 4*'s.
Halloween Candy with a Side of Murder, My thirty-fifth read from author Meredith Potts and the sixth in the Daily Buzz Mystery Series, different than her other series in that there is an ongoing thread throughout the first four books. Well-written & enjoyable. another cute, clean cozy mystery. I look forward to reading more in this series & from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
This series is just blah for me. I started with the third book and it was ok. I went to the beginning of the series and my impression didn’t improve. She forever mentions the “pointer finger”, the interrogation of suspects was beyond belief, she has intuitions to solve the murders, blah blah. It’s just the same for each book. After several books I called it quits. I enjoy cozy mysteries but this was not even close.
Holiday Candy with a Side of Murder by Meredith Potts
I really enjoy these stories . I have purchased all in this series but while I enjoy the series, I’m frustrated by the dialogue. The dialogue is very simplistic, short and predictable. I usually skim it to get back to the story. If Ms. Potts would improve the dialogue, she would have a great story. Mimi
A real estate tycoon has dreams of grandeur and starts putting large franchises next to small business owners to decrease income and make the business cheaper to buy. Then a woman is murdered with an arrow. A twist on the cosy mystery story. For anyone who enjoy j toys mysteries Meredith Potts delivers again.
I was blessed with a free copy of this book, and I have chosen of my own volition to share this review with you!
The sleuthing continues in this tale of Halloween Candy and Murder! Shot with an arrow, a locale businesswoman is found dead. Who did it? Who is actually capable of making this technical shot? Read this book to find out!
Halloween Candy with a Side of Murder was another great read by Meredith Potts. This is book six in The Daley Buzz Mysteries Series. There are crazy things happening around Treasure Cove and it's not just because Halloween is soon. There's arson as well as murder. This was another Meredith Potts book that I enjoyed reading.
