I read and wrote as soon a I could read and write. I also listened . . . a lot . . . to people's stories. My family immigrated to the U.S. from the Czech Republic when I was ten years old. I didn't speak English so the transition was pretty tough. I started 5th grade not just in a new neighborhood but in a new country. Like the protagonist, Sofia, in THE WIG series, I dealt with setbacks with humor (and tears) and schlepped forward. (And yes, my grandma did wear a wig.)
"There's a good deal of madcap action and several embarrassing moments, and kids Sofie's age...will be plenty amused." - Kirkus Reviews (THE WIG: New School & Other Stuff, #2)
"It's another quick, fun read for the Ivy and Bean crowd. Middle-grade readers will laugh and cringe their way through the over-the-top antics of Sofie and her family and friends." - Kirkus Reviews (THE WIG: Cold Feet, #4)
