Elly’s exposure as a half-fey was a shock to all around her. Her attempts to hide her ears and the change in her reality were foiled by class bullies. The next thing she knew she was being whisked away to a private school that catered exclusively to the half-breeds left behind by fey who travelled in the human world. On her first day at the school, she learns what she is and what kind of magic runs in her family. It will take a while before she actually meets her family.
Years later, she has completed her training, and she has not only learned what she is capable of, but she has learned what she can withstand and her personal strengths. She will need them all as she goes from being a master musician to the court’s main entertainment. After five more years, she is sent out on loan to the Crossroads, but leaving the court is dangerous. Five years’ worth of cursed nightmares are following Elly, and she will be lucky to make it out alive.
Eric is in charge of the nightmares and their discharge of their duties. A clerical anomaly points him in the direction of the Crossroads, and it is a point of honour that he will keep Elenora alive. He will hold her hand through the terror and help her to the other side. Perhaps then, they can grab a burger.
Zenina Masters was born in Canada and lives in Canada. She has a regular job and does nothing particularly exciting with her life. She enjoys fishing, silence and the ability to pick and choose friends she can trust. Life is too short to watch your back all the time.
Her writing life is a teeny bit of escapism, she would probably chicken out if confronted by three naked men and looks forward to one day finding out.
I loved this one! Starting out a bit differently, a little orphan is outed as part fey when she hits a certain age. Elly has a hard enough time fitting in at school. Learning she's not even really human makes it even worse. Luckily enough for her, she's pulled quickly to the fae world and given an education that suits her best. She earns her degree as a Master Musician. This is a prized and treasured title as not just anyone can earn it. What is even more special is upon earning it, her audition for the Royal Fae court earns her a very coveted spot as the Royal Musician.
What I liked about this story is how Ms. Master writes it. She gives a lonely childhood background for Elly and then moves us forward to when she finally meets her fae relatives. All is not well and then she is off into the Royal court. This careful editing gives the reader enough insight into Elly's life and keeps us from being bogged down in the minutia of her growing years from child to adulthood.
When we finally make it to the Crossroads where "Cupid" reigns supreme, Elly's courtship is unexpected. I liked this new twist. Showing how the fae can be a bit overzealous and just as petty is nicely done. Elly's survivor mentality and her let bygones be bygones is impressive. Of course, it helps to be in favour with the King of the Fae. This romance flows smoothly and Elly's romance is both sweet and lyrical. Her lover is impressive and what dreams can be made of. This paranormal romance is recommended for romantics at heart.
Did the whole thing about one of the past guests at crossroads's (Think was the hedgehog?) baby the fey King's future wife get pushed to the side. There was a quick throwaway line about his wife & playing for her in her crib but nothing else.
Loved it it was as great as the first 45 books i wait with patients for the next book in this series i feel in love with these book when I read the first in and will continue to read every book that comes out in the series...Thank you Zenina Masters...
I love Zenina Masters Crossroads series. It's fun to see what kinda of couple she'll come up with next. The only thing I miss is when the couples blend..... She's no longer describing what they blend into together....I always enjoy that part. Still loving and buying the series though ( all 47 ) .
I loved the story and the insight into the fey world. The ending was the best. Well done character development made for characters I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this story -- the longer version made it even better. 👏👏👏👏👏
This is one of the best books in the series. The concept has been phenomenal since the start, and I love seeing the world develop as the author grows. I was getting ready to stop following this series, but I am on the hook again. Cannot wait for the next book.
