'Who Burned the Moon?' is a fun-filled fantasy thriller with supernatural elements and a superhero. Yep, India's first doctor superhero
This novel has a superhero, but it's not about him. It's about his best friend-Rehan Saxena. He couldn't even pass class XII, but his mother wants him to become a "dactar". Thanks to a duplicate marksheet, he's sent packing to Lala Purabnath's Medical College
Here Rehan befriends Namak, who happens to be a superhero in the making. Namak doesn't wear a back-hanging dupatta like Superman, but he does have this kickass-looking burning moon between his tits and he can fly, too (occasionally though). So are you thinking it's pretty cool to have a superhero as your BFF, right?
Wrong!
Namak is an heir to a superpower that Lala Purabnath has been seeking for decades. As Lala discovers his identity, Rehan finds his life stirring into an epic mess that involves gilchis, flesh-eating apes and sex-crazed professors. Dragged through tunnels; thrown down the hostel; forced to participate in a ferocious blood game called Moontrack, Rehan has to pay the price of being friends with a guy whose superhero cherry hasn't popped fully yet.
Can Rehan survive beyond the first week of MBBS-I YR?

Book Title:
The title of the book ' Who burned the moon? ' is very mysterious and unusual.

Book Cover :
The book cover is an image of a man with a stethoscope around his neck, a doctor's apron and a cropped white shirt exposing his abs.

Plot:
Stories from valleys and hills are always interesting and if those stories also have a pinch of suspense, comedy and mystery, that becomes a great platter. Unlike normal romantic fiction stories, this story is different and stands out from the herd. All certain time, the tales from the medical professionals who is also the protagonist in the story tickle the reader's brains.

The names used in the story for the places and characters are quite new and interesting. The combination of a fantasy story and a super hero has always been a hit one and thus this book proves the same. Every human emotion is depicted in a newer version of perception.

Characters:
Wonderful plotting of the characters in the story is a highlight.

Narration:
The narration is fast paced and very interesting.

Language and Vocabulary:
Nice vocabulary is used.

My Final Verdict—
A very nice read!

This is Author Rahul Vishnoi's debut novel and I instantly fell in love with the writing of this young India Author as he writes so well. The story ' Who burned the moon' is set in small town of Dimakiya, where the protagonist Rehan comes to study in a medical college - LPMC. Namak ( the superhero in the story ) becomes Rehan's best friend.

Namak is an interesting character who has super powers. There are secondary characters like Tanu, Piyali, Raina, Kalika, Susuneha, Shakila which also makes the story interesting.

The story tells us the lives of medical students. It's about the new friendships, sometimes jealousy, sometimes heated arguments between girls ( which guys really enjoy watching ) .Their college life is not that smooth as they encounter Gilchis and experience lot of adventure during their first few days of college. You'll feel like turning next page to know what interesting turn the story will take in next few pages. I found the book intriguing. The twist and turns, unveiling of secrets is what makes it a thrilling novel. I loved how the suspense was maintained till the end.

Readers get to see the humorous side of Rehan. He is someone we would love to be around in our college days. Whatever he speaks to his friend Namak, will instantly make you laugh.

The story is fast paced and the narration is done very well. The language used is simple and easy to understand. The book cover is quite interesting and the title is apt.

WHAT I LOVED THE MOST?
I loved the humour element in the story which makes it a truly fun-filled story. It has everything that makes a novel a good read.
I would highly recommend it to everyone who is looking to read an interesting, exciting and a unique story.

I would give it 5/5 stars.

"For The Night is Dark and Full of Terrors". This is the very first quote that strikes me these days whenever I hear the word burn or fire. Though Melisandre is nowhere related to this book, but this quote did make a brilliant start. So, here I'm with a review of my friend's latest book, a fantasy novel set in Dimakiya and brings in interesting elements involving the readers in a roller coaster ride of its own.

Blurb (From Amazon):

This novel has a superhero, but it's not about him. It's about his best friend-Rehan Saxena. He couldn't even pass class XII, but his mother wants him to become a "dactar". Thanks to a duplicate marksheet, he's sent packing to Lala Purabnath's Medical College

What's good with the book:

1. The freshness the story has brought up. Rarely one gets to read new Indian authors that do not stick to the stale concept of cheesy romance.

2. The book has its humor at right places. The characters are funny and easy to relate to if you are born and brought up in current age India.

3. Also, the plot is so tightly written that the reader does not feel that the book comprises of adventures of just 7 days. Also, the unique concept of the game 'Moonraker' is something that is rarely heard of.

What's wrong with the book:

1. Unfortunately, the book's high point becomes its own low point. If the author is planning to write sequels, assuming medical studies drags for 5-6 years, he might need to write a lot to keep the pace going.

2. At times, the book seems a bit confusing with new creatures introduced at odd times. Though the story makes sense by the time one finishes the book, it still is a bit irksome.

My take on the book:

As I mentioned earlier, it is a refreshing take for a budding Indian author to come up with a novel other than cheesy rom-coms. A very good attempt by the author and it should obviously be commended. Though the climax was a bit rushed up and can be surely be worked upon, this is one book, I will surely recommend.

Book in Three Words : Fresh. Fast-Paced. Unstoppable.

We always appreciate and share our school and college life. The memories we spend with our friends always been the reason of our happiness.
The book is about those tale of friendship.
The best thing about this book is its humorous approach.
The book can sometimes really make you laugh.
But in case of description and characterization it could have been more better.
Language is clear .
The cover is very attractive.
A book worth reading.

This one was a surprise package in terms of quality and concept

The author Rahul and I interacted on instagram and he told me that he too had written a book and that's how I came to know about it. I bought the copy and read with a little apprehension as the cover looked a little off putting. But the novel turned out to be really amazing

What I loved
The story line was gripping and the initial build up was really top class. The characters were lovable and the conversation between them was stimulating and full of punchlines that brought a smile. Especially between Namak and Rehan. The quality of the writing really shone through - very few mistakes. I found the novel un-putdown-able. The negative character was impressively done and does look menacing. The suspense was sweet and deceptive and came as a surprise. I had guessed it a bit because I am an author and picked up the hints. Still it was good and noteworthy. The setting was good and the rural legends in the story give it a touch of authenticity even though it is a fantasy. The college setting gives it another level of credibility.

The Lazy Rest
It would have been a tightly knit, all time classic but somewhere after a third of the book the plot went a little off for me. New situations and ideas though spectacular, didn't seem to connect with the story or they were not elaborated to their magical conclusion. The wall of ears, eyes and lips was an amazing concept but never turns menacing or given a proper closure.

Similarly the Moon Tracker seemed to be a thrilling contest but was finished without the scares and tension that should could have made it a classic and an unforgettable. It seemed to have more pages on build up and less on actual action.

The only Transvestite character could have turned out to be iconic but is just comes and goes with one show stopper of a scene. I would have loved to see more of him.

The Gilchis could have been better explained and Chinka could have more dimensions to her than a singular, obedient slave.

My impression is that the author put his heart and soul on this first third of the book and having written an amazing part got lazy!!!! A totally criminal act. And there he missed what could have been a classic.

Applause for the superlative first time effort
It is easy to find flaws with anything but for a first time effort the novel is way ahead of many so called authors that I have interacted with. Full marks to a brave and imaginative canvas.

Sequel and an Open End
The end is open ended and yes looks tragic. I was so disturbed that I confirmed from the author. Wont give out the spoiler. So you do fall in love with Rehan and his plight. The sequel was definitely planned which explains the very large canvas and also the loose ends.

I wish the author all the best. This is indeed a great first attempt and the journey will only get better from here for him.

Author is a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist (just another fancy name for a dentist) and ‘Who Burned the Moon?’ is his first attempt to shift to other side of the paper. He prefers the smell of a book to that of grass and decided to write a novel to spite a few people in his life who were mean to him and named all the villains after them (OK that last bit may not be true).

REVIEW:

Well, informally, if I got to tell a thing about this book- " It was a wow, awesome book!"

It was a kicking plot by a doctor with terms of medical science. This book contained interesting story of a superhero living and studying in a Medical College.

For me, being an Engineering student, this was a wholesome different plot and I enjoyed it.

The book cover seemed subdue and fancy but goes quite well with the story line.

The language is easy to read and the pace was quick to finish the book. It was a good read.

Being a BBA final year student i felt something I should have aken up MBBS even when I'm totally weak when it comes to science. A truly fun filled thriller book. One cannot easily come up with this kind of plot. Author has completely thought of a new way to explain things. A book which can make your boring weekends into a little funny one. This might be one of those superhero books which may make youfall in love with it without any pictures.

The story starts off with the introduction of Lala purabnath, our villian, the most feared man in Dimakiya,  who is out to find the boy who will claim the gold-bones. To ensure that the youth don't leave the valley, he opens a Medical College for the students of Dimakiya. Then we are introduced to Rehan Saxena, our hero's sidekick, he failed in his +2 exam, but his mom Damayanti manages to him a fake marksheet as well as a seat in Lalaji's college. The college is actually the fort of King Zarakhet, Lalaji's ancestor.  There Rehan comes across various old classmates and meets few new people. A chance encounter with the supernatural cements Rehan's friendship with Namak, our hero. Rehan realizes that Namak is a superhero and the boy whom Lalaji is seeking. The story takes us through few days in Rehan's life, how everything turns out of control.

Will Lalaji find that Namak is the boy he is looking for?

What will happen when the gold-bones are claimed?

What is the story of King Zarakhet?

Read to find out

I enjoyed the book, at the starting i felt it had too much of guy jokes, but it got over soon.  I think boys who have lived in boys hostels would find it easier to connect to Rehan & Namak, though it does remind you of college life. For people who have lived in college hostels, this story will take you down the memory lane at times. After reading a lot of romance from Indian authors, a different genre was a welcome relief. Though I was skeptical at the beginning, loved the world and all the supernatural characters. Favorite character :Piyali, she was cool. It did remind me of little of Harry Potter, maybe because of the magic, prophecy and all.

Recommend for readers who love fantasy

Who Burned the Moon takes us on a fantasy thriller ride filled with adventure, bromance, college life, superpowers, gilchis, suspense, humor, and mystery.
Rehan Saxena, a fun-loving guy, gets admission to LPM college through a fake certificate arranged by his mother, her only wish is to see him as a Doctor.
He meets Namak at the college premises, and their friendship develops. Namak posses superhero power that Lala Purabnath was hunting for long. Rehan and Namak also build a good rapport with other college mates, and their conversations were humorous and witty. Having a Superhero as your best pal comes with its own risk. Rehan is dragged in Namak’s world of exploring Gilchis, apes, and in unraveling greater myths.
Will Rehan survive in these complex situations?
Rehan’s character is jovial and the one you could easily relate to. The girly gossips, fun at the lab, seasonal friendship, and professor’s attitude were all a walk to the memory lane. The author has beautifully portrayed each character, and the feel of college vibes are so refreshing. At times it was a bit melodramatic but the tagline of humor sufficed it.
Periodical usage of colloquial language was the icing on the cake. The concept of the story is fresh and engrossing; unlike other college-themed one’s ending on a romantic note. I liked the story, but the midway addition of too many new creatures was confusing.
This is my second read of the author’s writing, and it is captivating. To factorize all, It was a fast-paced fun read. Unleash yourself to enter the fantasy world.
Have a great and safe weekend!!!

Some books do bring out the best in you, whereas, some on the contrary, bring out the worse in you.
I had high expectations for this one as the cover seemed okay for starters.
Title was well selected, but, however, the monotonous story totally pissed me off.
I regret my decision of getting this book. It was overhyped, so I went along with the flow.
The following points if it was followed successfully, could have made the book a lot more useful, easier, pleasant to read & better than others in the market.
However, unfortunately it let me down.

1. Language was way below average. The plot seems to be over exaggerated, monotonous & kept on prolonging most of the time.
2. Off-balance of suspense with plot caused the book to be a total disaster, the book needs a lot of research before it has to be procrastinated.

Theme consists of love, sadness, friendship, family, true love, unrequited love, betrayal, pain & many aspects infused together.
Story is common bollywood one with cheesy quotes & shayaris or dialogues added at certain places to improve the humour of the book. However, it fails to highlight the basic fact in the book.
Though traces of good quotes has been introduced at certain places of the book.
At times I just regretted my decision to read this book. However, I sticked to the end.

Writing is poor & shabby. It's way too simple for like minded readers.
Though it was monotonous at many times.
Nothing unique about the story. Just a common bollywood cliché.
Wouldn't recommend this too all the readers. Only those who wish to read some sophomore stories can go for it.

The story starts with a hilarious introduction of the villain of the book, Lala Purabnath and his sycophants. Lala Purabnath is engaged in a very profitable business, i.e. providing education in the hill town of Dimakiya. However, he is in search of someone, who can sing to the bones!
The reader then meets Rehan Saxena, a teenager who has failed Class 12 but his mother is hell bent on making him a “Daacter,” (Doctor). For fulfilling this ambition, she manages to procure a fake marksheet and despite his protestations, packs him off to a new medical college opened by Lala Purabnath.
Once Rehan boards the bus to take him to the medical college, the fun begins! There are a number of memorable characters in the book like Tanu, Raina, Namak, Sukanya, to name a few. Reading about the personalities of the students and college staff takes one back to one’s own student days. I found myself comparing the book to the famous movie The 3 Idiots as I kept chuckling over the humorous dialogues in the story.
But all in the college is not what it seems! The college has underground tunnels that are populated by “gilchis”, beings that are half-animal and half-human. Namak turns out to have super powers, there is a telling of an ancient legend of the Grand King and the gold bones and the story concludes with a hunt for “gilchis” on vehicles called Moontrackers. This is when the story becomes “3 Idiots meets Harry Potter.”
Who Burned the Moon? is a light, fun filled and entertaining read.

Who burned the blue moon by rahul vishnoi is one if its own kind of book , it is a fantasy novel based upon a campus story of LPMC college, this not enough about the book because what's ahead is -this story has a superhero 'Namak' but.. wait! It's also not about the superhero.. it's about an average looking boy you find next door "Rehan" who is like most of us teenager, he finds his studies boring and teachers feel like some villain to him but the twist here is he is quite right about guessing about some of his teachers as they r depicted as the villains of this enthralling tale.
When I read this story, I found it to be one of a fantasy that one gets nightmares about, but Rehan is the one natural human who has to go through a lot during his 1st year of doing MBBS.
The author has shown his creative mind through this story and also it's not like any other story one would have read from any indian author, this is a unique story. Students from medical background may find this book connecting and also readers of fantasy lover must do read this. Good book for youngesters though, waiting for the sequel..

Here comes something new from an Indian author, unlike as always cheesy love stories.
I loved the concept of the book , of a medical college set in Forests of a hill station with many goosebump stories of the place, and with a boy with superhero powers. Since this story is revolving in a medical college, it's full of college time fun, adventure, masti, friendships, betrayals, pranks, nags, teachers etc etc with which we all can easily relate and loves reading about.

I personally love teenage, college life stories, so I totally enjoyed this book. The most amazing part of the book is Moontrack, it's a game, do read to Know more about it.
The story is very intriguing, relatable, enjoying and I felt I was there, characters beautifully described especially teachers and sticked till the end, language could have been better else book is really nice, and will keep you glued till the end.
One must read it, if they love fantasy stories.

This story revolves around Rehan Saxena. His mother's only dream to see him as a doctor. Even though he couldn't pass class 12th, he gets the admission into LPMC (thanks to the fake marksheet). He never thought that his experience would be totally unimaginable in this college. Being friends with a superhero in making makes his life stirring into an epic mess that involves gilchis, flesh-eating apes and sex-crazed professors.
I have read few short stories from the author before and I kinda like his writing as he writes so well. The story is about a superhero but the protagonist is not him but his friend and also narration goes through his perspective. There are so many funny moments and arguments between characters which make the story more fun to read. Most of the conversation between Namak and Rehan are so humorous and funny. The twists and turns makes it more engaging.

Book cover is simple but could have been better. Book title is different & little bit confusing.

"who burned the moon?" seems confusing? yeah it is..

The story was set in a medical college. This book is very well written in simple language, easy to understand.

Good characterization and a very satisfying conclusion. The author uses a smooth, simple yet classy language to narrate this story.

This is one of those books which should be required reading for everyone. I encourage you to take the time and read it. If you are bored from reading a same repetitive genre & planning to read a good book, you must go for it without hesitation.

Overall I would give it 4/5 stars.

A doctor superhero!?

A superhero who is not used to be a superhero, who doesn't even know the extent of his powers. A boy forced by his mother to become a doctor.

This story is set in the small town of Dimakiya, a fantasy land near Nanital. And has it's fair share of tales and myths which are passed from one generation to another.

Lala Purabnath, who can't read a word to save his life has four schools under his name and opens a medical college with the aim to find 'HIM' the one, who will sing to the gold bones.

Rehan never believed in the age old myths and regrets it the moment he enters the college. Now he is best friends with the superhero, Namak, (what kind of name is that) and their life is turned upside down from day one itself. The story moves at a break neck speed, friendships are tested and a whole lot of chaos.

Can't wait for the sequel.

Who Burned The Moon? ✌ .

This book was a genuine surprise. When the contemporary Indian literature medium is filled with romance & drama & tragedy, Who burned the moon? felt like a fresh breath. The fantasy elements in this book is so unique (even though it resembles every other) and leaves us wanting more. I had several issues with the story but it isn't worth mentioning since this book was a delight surprise and incredibly authentic and it is like a well made Independent movie. Kudos to Rahul Vishnoi (btw this is his debut novel 🙏)

Description:-

Rehan a less than average student carries the burden of his mother's wishes of becoming "DACTAR" (DOCTOR). To pursue which, he joins a Medical College which is supposed to be normal and regular. To his horror and readers' awe the college has all short of crazies like a superhero best friend, a legacy to follow... Will he be able to survive the college?

Book:-

The book is very much in tune with its blurb:- "Rahul Vishnoi has dusted all the twisted corners of his neurons to bring out a book that will not only enthrall you with its lovely characters and bullet-like pace but will also make you want to go back to the college.' The writer has kept his promise with the story and the readers.

Contents:-

The content is truly relatable to everyone who has attended college. I am still in the college so the story was basically me and my friends on the pages of the book and made me laugh crazy at various points. The inclusion of the doodle page is one good move made by the author because almost all of us have doodled very sincerely in our notebooks during a class. I will agree with the fact that the blurb kind of made me sceptical about the contents of the book, But as I started reading, I couldn't stop until I finished it. The names used by the author are very new and peculiar thus making the story richer in itself. The book is a beautiful revisit journey through all the times we wanted our schools and colleges to have supernatural things except this college actually has it. The elements are very carefully chosen by the author hence at any point readers will not find the twist too much or unnecessary. The author has also focused on the human tendencies of reacting to particular situations which makes the story even more gripping. The storyline is fresh and unique in its context thus making it stand out from the regular lot.

Suggestion For Readers:-

A must have and Must read. This book can be read as many times as possible and stay gripping all the same.

‘Who burned the Moon’ by Rahul Vishnoi
It is a comedy thriller & supernatural story based on imaginary fantasy world. The cover of the book is justifying the substance of the book & the title is unique and thought provoking as well. I was curious after reading the title. The blurb of the book is attention seeking and compact & aptly pointing towards the X Factor of the story. The language of the story is lucid, simple & lots of humor elements present & the fast pace narrating with fine description of the events and revealing twists one after another is something that made this book a super gripping, interesting & enjoyable read.
The story completely deals with magical powers, college life of medical students, funny incidents at places, greed for powers, sexual encounters, friendships & full of enthralling twists & turns. Actually the protagonist of the story Rehan, and his best friend Namak was the actual heir of some supernatural powers and was about to evolve into a complete superhero. They were in the same medical college (Lala Purabnath’s Medical College) regarding pursuing MBBS. But studying MBBS in that particular college, where Lala Purabnath himself had eyes over the super powers, was not at all smooth for Rehan, because friendship with the ‘Superhero in progress’ Namak, started to cost him a lot; not only surviving there but his personal life headed towards turmoil too. But wait, that was not over! Because greed for powers & people in power both affected Rehan’s life in an unimaginable way. To know what happened next and to know what is waiting for the youngsters in their life and destination, join Rehan in his journey and emerge yourself into the world of superpowers, magic and thrilling rollercoaster ride.
I completely enjoyed the thrill, the sarcasm, the humor, the suspense in the story that the author managed to keep intact successfully till the end and this breathtaking thrilling, magical journey will keep the reader at the edge of their seat. Each new incident was a page turner and the emotional shades of the character Rehan and the life of the medical college described in a super fine way and most importantly there was no such point that I found to be exaggerated or over paced. I loved the book & I think every comedy thriller lover, or supernatural power enthusiasts, or fantasy reader will surely love the book. I recommend this book guyz. Do read it once.
5/5 Stars.

Who doesn't like fantasy? I love fantasy. But this book "Who burned the moon" is far more than fantasy. It's a fantasy novel with a dash of multiple genres like thriller, suspense and comedy.

This is book is set in the town of Dimakiya near Nainital. As every other town in the hills has one another mythical stories, so this town was not less. Rehan was not a studious person from the beginning itself and also flunked his 12th standard. But his mother wants him to become a doctor so she arranged a forged marksheet and admitted him in Lala Purabnath Medical College. Later in the college he befriends Namak who turned out to be a superhero in making and has a burning moon on his chest and can occasionally fly. After befriending Namak, Rehan's smooth going life took a topsy-turvy turn. As Namak is the heir of a superpower Lala Purabnath was searching so this scavenging hunt made Rehan's life a sheer mess which involved gilchis, apes, and weird professors. At last he is dragged into a bloody game of moontracker which reveals some shocking truths.

This book is a proper amalgamation of fantasy and thriller. The plot was so gripping that it made me eager to know what will going to happen next. Best part about the novel is that the pace of it is super fast, and this super fast pace makes it a light read. I felt like the last 50 pages were slowing down but later they get back to there speed. Just grab the book and give it a go and you'll feel the hold.

Characters in the book were developed very mindedly. Each and every character was bang on, on their part. Apart from protagonists, author gave equal importance to the antagonists as well. The character I liked the most was of Piyali Khattar. She was shown fierce and bold riding a bike and a truck with such an ease that Rehan couldn't even imagine. And I liked the character of Rehan as well.

Overall this book is a must read in which you won't find the superhero to be the protagonist. The humor element will make you burst in the laughter and thrill element will make you stick to the story.

The super hero of the book 'Namak' purely a strange name for anyone to hear. So was to me. But this super hero really puts life into the book. It was really good start for me reading a super hero book. As I have never find one in a medical college since date. Still the book is about Rehan saxena who got into the medical college even after failing 12th and with the help of a fake marksheet. But as he gets into the college he comes to know about the wild fantasies hidden within the walls of the college. Will he be able to take the pressure or will teribbly fail all again? Well the book was really a good read. As me going to join a college in a month or two. This book have really given me an idea about how colleges are. Actually now I am stuck with mixed feelings. Well the book was really good and I personally enjoyed it. Cheers to the author.
