At the age of 18, Nena’s already gotten everything she wanted out of life. She won the big competition, and now she’s back in her parents’ house, where she’s bored out of her mind. What’s a retired circus performer to do? Her best idea is to travel, which seems like a great idea when she meets a new friend—but isn’t so great when things start bursting into fire around her. Regularly. In fact, it’s almost as if the fire has something to do with her emotional state… but that would be magic, and magic doesn’t exist. Right? FIRE OF ENNUI is the first book of Ivana Skye’s fantasy new adult series Evocation. If you like origin stories about people getting superpowers and ushering in a new phase of the world, or have ever wondered what happens after a coming of age story, this series is for you. I posted a review of Ocean of Anger, the third book in Ivana Skye’s Evocation series, back on August 24 and just realized that I never actually reviewed books 1&2, Fire of Ennui and Metal of Ambition. Shame on me. For the record, the five stars I gave book 3 are a continuation of the quality in books 1 and 2. I actually read all three in one single book-a-thon blast. I simply could not put them down, they were so addictive, and basically ended up reading all night. I am a “book-aholic” but even for me that’s really unusual and only happens when something is particularly wonderful. These books were. It’s that simple. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - both of these books definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that each book is most definitely “one to read”, and it is easy to highly recommend both of them.
This is a beautiful book set in the far future, when humans have multiple genders. Three young people set out upon journeys to help them understand themselves and their uniqueness. But the journey is but half of the experience. Their world is changing and they are going to have parts to play. The city to which they all travel is experiencing mysterious events, as is Nena herself.
I was so fascinated with the world views of Orange, Nena and Sedge that just looking through their eyes was enough. The paths of all three will cross in the next volume.
This book was very hard to understand at first. I didn't know what was going on half of the time.
There wasn't a lot of plot in this book either and I felt like it repeated itself over and over.
Although I didn't like most of the story, the characters where very intriguing. I kept on reading the book because they really made me curious about how they would act later on in the story.
I will read the next instalment and hope that the story will become as interesting as the characters are .
She had done what she set out to do at a younger than anyone else but what will she do now. Things change when she realises she has superpowers.. She goes on the road where she meet him. See how they get on and if she finds out what she really is I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review
