Appealing to anyone involved in children's ministry, this book builds on Children's Pastor Rachael Groll's outreach ministry that takes the gospel outside the four walls of a church to kids in the streets. It provides practical tools and personal examples to start a Sidewalk Sunday School or other outreach program of your own. Groll encourages us to listen to God's call and just GO.
This was an AMAZING book! I recently joined a church plant with a large focus on outreach, and this book was absolutely what I needed. I have recommended it to every youth and children's pastor I know! After each chapter, I wanted to jump in my car, drive to my pastors' house and start planning our ministries. This book focuses on children's outreach ministry, but if you're planning on starting any sort of outreach ministry, I'd say that this book would have a ton of good advice. She talks about hearing God, about the ways God works through the good times and the bad, about how God calls us to show up.. it's honestly amazing. Through this book, I can see that Rachael has an amazing heart for God and for children. God used this book to truly speak to me, and to encourage me as I look at the daunting task of helping grow a church focused on outreach. I'm a layperson, not a pastor, but plan to be heavily involved in this church plant as it grows. Local outreach has always been something I've felt is important and that I feel God has called me to, but I've often felt that the task is daunting and I've had no idea where to start. This book was exactly what I needed.
I absolutely, no holds barred, recommend this book to anyone interested in reaching the people of their community!
I would gladly give this book 10 stars for the content. If you are even thinking about starting a kids outreach ministry, get a copy of this book. Rachael very clearly explains an outreach ministry to GO outside the church walls to reach the kids that will never darken the door of the church. And isn’t that what we’ve been called to do.
After give big examples of how her outreach ministry works, Rachael explains the biblical call behind this ministry and then gives the reader various pointers and things to consider in setting up a similar ministry in their area. Then lastly she shares a sample 12 week lesson plan for such a ministry.
Highly recommend this book to anyone involved in Children’s Ministry.
Sorry it took me so long to respond but every time I think I got a chance to breathe somebody comes with another project. While waiting on my ride home one day, I opened my iPad and started reading and right away I began to start seeing how this book can assist me. I was recently volun-told (asked by my Pastor and told at the same time in a way you just step up and go to work) to be the new Sunday school superintendent although I hadn’t a clue what I was doing. This’s book gave good insight into some directions to take. Good read.
