I have to make the pain stop.
I want to feel alive, and I do when I’m drinking and partying the way I should have when I was a teen. Instead, back then, I was preparing to become the Whiskey Princess, a role assigned to me from birth.
A lady never drinks to the point of blacking out, nor does she go home with men she meets in bars. But I went home with him…Jackson.

Well, that was adorable. I didn't know I wanted to read the sister's story until I read it.
Jackson is mega adorable and sweet and they're both slightly broken, but together they can finally find their way back to a real life!
The irish accent was mega disturbing and exaggerated and just got on my nerves. It would be ok in an audio version, but reading it like that was just horrible!
But the story was really cute and irish and whiskey-ish and moving ... I really enjoyed reading it. Not really it it - not the words (aka the accent) but the content of the story.🤣🤣

The story started great and I was invested from the beginning in the MC's relationship. They both are great, even with enough skeletons in their closets but they tried really hard to make the relationship work for them.
I was a little annoyed in the end with Jackson and how obsessed he was with putting labels in everything but he is a sweetheart and I forgive him.

I enjoyed this book even though it wasn't my favorite from this series. I think for me, while I liked the story prognosis in general, I did not exactly love the execution. It was a bit over the top with some of the characters' words and actions. It just did not feel genuine and realistic whatsoever. Just over the top in many, many aspects.
I think what ultimately saved this read was Jackson. Lena, sometimes came off like a debbie downer to me but Jackson felt more exciting and relatable.
Granted, let me point out that Jackson and Lena are two completely different individuals from separate upbringings, backgrounds, but what strikes accord with one another is their inner broken ness and wanting to forge their own paths in their lives.
With their meetings with one another, we come to see Lena come into her own with her family legacy and Jackson wanting more than a fleeting connection from an individual for the first time in his life.
I cannot say that you will be mesmerized by this novel cause it was not for me..... only, good luck!!
Over all, a toss up read for me. Thumbs up for love, Ireland, taking risks, and a gorgeous Canadian man!! Teehee!!

Lena was a hot mess at the start of this one, hardly recognizable. Sure she had reason to be a bit crazy, but the way her family went on after she went home was more than a little harsh. I was glad that with Jackson she was able to find a bit of peace, that Jackson was able to help her look at things differently and work through things. I thought that Jackson really had it together, but towards the end you realize he was hiding a lot and was just as much of a hot mess as Lena. The great thing was that together they worked. I was glad when each of them realized it and allowed themselves to be happy.

*4* Who doesn't want someone to see what's inside of you, not just what you show the world? That's what happened with Lena when she met Jackson.
Jackson actually cracked me up, he had no filter, said whatever was on his mind with no thought how it was going to sound. He said some real off the cuff stuff that I kind of giggled through.
These two both had issues that they were struggling through. Through each other they found strength but would it be enough for what they needed? Would all of her family be there for her or only part of them?
As you know with Toni Aleo's books the chemistry is awesome as always and the awww's are in there too!!!

I had a hard time liking Lena.. yes I understand that she had several hard events in her life, but running from her family duties seemed a bit childish.. I didn’t connect with Jackson at all.. maybe that’s why they were perfect for each other because they didn’t make sense to me.. it was mostly about sex.. with them.. every encounter they had finished with sex.. I like more story and a few sexy times, but I didn’t see any character development here..

It’s incredibly difficult to live up to societal expectations, especially for someone like Lena O'Callaghan, because on top of public scrutiny, she also has to contend with her family’s list of rules and responsibilities, which makes it feel like she’s meant to live someone else’s life instead of her own…someone who’s portrayed to be one way when, in reality, Lena is completely different and wants nothing to do with her ‘supposed’ role as the Whiskey Princess because she doesn’t feel like it fits her or the woman she’s trying to find in herself to be.
Some may view Lena as a spoiled brat – one who doesn’t appreciate the life she’s been given and would rather do everything in her power to shed a negative light on her family name and its importance. And, while there is definitely evidence to prove her downward spiral could be a big middle finger to her family and the pressure she feels due to her last name and the expectations of her role because of her family’s position in society, if people would look passed her recklessness and inappropriate behavior and see a woman struggling to find her true place in the world…in her city…in her family in a way that allows her the breathing room she needs to explore the limitless possibilities of who she can be if she only chooses to take the initiative to become that person.
If there’s anyone who can help Lena find her way in this judgmental and overwhelming life, it’s Jackson Tremblay because it’s clear upon their initial meeting that he sees Lena for who she is and who she wants to become and everything about her works for him. Jackson has his own demons to shed and while he’s clearly not used to building the kind of connection he does with Lena, especially because their time together was meant to be a one-night stand, the quiet and solace they find with one another when everything else feels like it’s suffocating them makes then keenly aware of exactly what they could come to mean to each other as long as they were both willing to take a risk on love.
I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Lena when I began Whiskey Rebellion; her desire to be an ordinary girl made sense to me, but I wasn’t sure if I would be able to truly understand the reasons for her rebellion and her need to find her own way. I can happily say, though, that Toni Aleo portrays Lena in such a way that her conflicted attitude fits what she has had to endure her entire life as a member of the O'Callaghan family and the fact that Jackson ‘gets’ her also helped me to corral my judgment and give Lena a chance to explain and show readers exactly why she struggles with how she’s perceived and who she’s taught to be versus who she truly wants/can be.
Lena and Jackson’s story is about coming to terms with one’s past and finding one’s footing in the present, so that the future is everything that it ought to be. Both Lena and Jackson are a bit lost when Whiskey Rebellion begins and they’re unsure of how to find what they need to move forward, but the fact that they found support in each other and a passion that reignites their lives does wonders for their hearts and their souls.

I found much to like about this story.
The story starts with a very steamy encounter between Lena and Jackson. She is trying to escape from her past and is using alcohol and one-night stands to ease her pain. After a particularly painful night, she walks into the bar where Jackson works and picks him up for one very hot night. She kicks him out after a misunderstanding, but neither one can get the other out of their mind. However, this was Jackson's last night in London - he's working and traveling through Europe, never settling down in any one place for very long. But as these things go, it's not long until Jackson ends up working horses at the estate in Ireland where Lena's family resides. Lena, of course, has been convinced by her brother to return home (the prodigal daughter, I guess) because her mother is facing a cancer diagnosis and imminent surgery. Jackson has his own demons and never setting down roots is part of the problem. This is the story of two damaged people finding their way together - facing down family and the past and exorcising their demons. It had loads of hot steamy scenes and you just knew that with this kind of chemistry that their love would find a way.
So why didn't I rate this higher?
There were a few things that I found brought the story down for me. First, the Irish slang was over the top for me. Especially in a story set in the present day, this is not how you convey the sense of an area. Add to this that Lena's family, and especially her mother, is so status conscious and focused on how they are considered the 'royalty' of Mayo - well, if the mother was dictating how she looked and dressed, you can be sure that she'd be dictating how she spoke and it wouldn't be like the 'commoners'. So all the "yer" for "your" and "ya" for "you" - it just turned me off. Then there's the spelling / grammar errors and awkward sentence constructions. (Examples: "I'll try let up a bit..." and "What wrong with not leaving?" and "...the cancer happened with my mom.") I've read this author's works and LOVED her Assassins series so I'm not sure if this book was rushed, had a different editor, or something else was going on here. It just wasn't as well-written as that series. The story was good, but the construction detracted from it. Still, I liked this and, if you've read the first two in this series...and maybe even if you haven't, it's an enjoyable romance.

Whiskey Rebellion is the 3rd book in Toni Aleo's Taking Risks series. Lena O'Callaghan was raised to be prim and proper, to be a lady yet recently, all she's wanted is to feel alive and to figure out who she really is. She is the “Princess of Mayo” and all the pressure has come to bear on her. Recently some life changing events have had her rethinking things , actually everything she was ever taught or learned from birth. She realizes she wants to be free where she can make choices without it hurting people that she loves. When her past catches up with her, she is spinning out of control by drowning everything in alcohol, drugs and sex. Then right before she gets the summons home to go back to her O’Callahan duties, she meets Jackson. Now Jackson Tremblay is traveling the world and every city he is staying, he finds a job and work until he decides to move to the next city. On his last shift as a bartender in London, he meets with Lena. The connection between them is instant and immediate. After their one-night stand, which ends badly, they both go different directions with regrets and knowing that they won’t be seeing each other again. These two are tortured souls who have had a lot of pain in their pasts. I did like the sweet romance that developed from this contemporary romance. The only issue I had is with Lena. At times she came off as brisk and one dimensional. There was some passion that carried within the story and that was good but I felt the connection between Jackson and Lena didn’t stay the course thru the whole book. I did like the plot and the scenery but Lena and Jackson were not my favorite couple of the series. Even with that, this was still a good story. I was engrossed in if they would make their relationship work when they ended up meeting again after their 1 night stand. I don’t want to go into everything that happens but I will say Jackson is special man who has a complex and sensitive background. He deserved finding that never-ending rainbow. Lena grew on me and by the end of this story, I felt her character had grown enough from when she first started in this story.

As the author notes in this book--I didn't know I needed more of the story until I got it. I was quite happy with the Whiskey Prince and Becoming the Whisky Princess. In fact, it had been so long since I read them, I had to quick re-read my reviews to get back in this world again before I started this book. I would have been fine with or without this book in the mix. For those who have read the first books, this is Lena's story.
Lena is the younger sister of Declan--the Whiskey Prince. She has had some hard times in her life. Emotional encounters that haven't been dealt with. Because of that, she is on a rebellion. She leaves her family behind and does whatever she wants, who ever she wants, and goes wherever she wants. This party lifestyle leads her to Jackson. A man with his own demons who is also running from his past.
Much of the story is about Jackson and Lena dancing around what is actually happening between them. Although we didn't get a whole lot of deep character development, it was at least apparent that these two where of the same soul. Their demons ran deep but together, the world may start to look brighter.
Other than Declan and Amberlyn, Lena's family was horrendous. Even terminally ill, her mother was not truly seeing Lena. It was all about image. I know there are families like this out int he world. But this one seemed over the top and no one was willing to step in and say enough.
If you were happy with the first two books, no need to read further. If you feel like you might need Lena's story in order to round out this world, have at it. Just an ok read for me.

I liked it..
Whiskey Rebellion is a pleasant read with lots of hot moments.
About the plot;
From the very beginning of the book, I discovered Lena and her promiscuous ways and I thought this is going to be some tense book, however, after the first chapters, it was more of a sweet romance than what I first expected.
Lena is a woman rebelling, rebelling against her heritage, her parents, her town, trying to find herself but at the same time getting lost, spiraling downhill with sex, drugs, and alcohol. This is the Lena in the first chapters.
Lena is escaping from her duties as the whisky princess, living it up in London, she's a woman who is observed and scrutinised by town folk and the press in the area she is from in Ireland and is perceived as royalty and due to recent events Lena is doing what she wants even if it's not good for her.
Jackson is Canadian, traveling Europe and working wherever he can.
Jackson first meets Lena when she saunters into the bar where he is working and pretty much jumps his bones and there was no way he was turning a one night stand with a beautiful girl away on his last night in London before he moves onto the next city.
From what was supposed to be a one night stand it seems fate intervenes and Lena and Jackson discover each other again later when Jackson visits Ireland and Lena at this point has had to return home to her castle and begin fulfilling her duties again as a Lady, attending charity events and filling her sick mother's mother's shoes.
I found the plot slow, predictable, the Irish accent took some getting used to as well. Lena and Jackson definitely had chemistry from the moment they met and the sex scenes represented that.
The story Is about self-discovery, not letting the past dictate your future and facing your fears.
An enjoyable read, probably perfect for a lazy day's reading but It just didn't have enough oomph, drama or angst for my enjoyment, I nearly gave up a few times, like I said it was enjoyable just not for a drama-hungry reader like me.

Whiskey Rebellion is a book I didn’t know I needed, but I so did because Lena O’Callaghan needed her happy and I needed to know it! Lena may be the Princess of Mayo, but when we find her she’s more apt to be known as a beautiful disaster. Toni Aleo takes the reader along on this tale of two souls lost and then found thru the other. Jackson Tremblay was the perfect man to become Lena’s other half. I loved him from the start, even when his mouth flubbed things. He saw Lena. He listened, encouraged and accepted her for her. That’s what everyone wants. The same could be said for Lena, because she saw when Jackson doubted and struggled with his ghosts. Everything about this coupling was just perfect! They were playful and sweet and had so much chemistry!
Throw in the families and all the drama Lena’s mom’s expectations create; well it kept the angst happening. Omg! So let me just say my heart ached and soared for Lena and Jackson!!! To the crazyness at the beginning of the book and when they meet. I love the attraction between them. Jackson just turned into a complete mess with his words because of how much he was affected by her. It was nice to see the relationship between them develop. I was even more proud when Lena stood up for herself and what she wanted. She didn't let herself get railroaded into what her parents wanted for her. In the end i really enjoyed this! i was excited to see where Lena would end up after the everything that had happen in Becoming Whiskey Princess.

Mommy dearest
Anyone else envision Faye Dunaway whacking Lena with a coat hanger? Her Mom was absolutely horrible. Frankly, I wish Toni had written Lena to be stronger. She was such a doormat for her family.
Jackson, the boy was an eejit often. He might not be the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to human interaction. I agree with others that said he was a bit whiney. He certainly needed a self esteem boost.
So, this wasn't my favorite of the series. More of a filler with no real wrap up.

This was pretty good. Glad I didn’t have to reread the other books to remember everything that happened. Also glad that we got to see everyone from the first two books. I pretty much love everything Toni Aleo has written so this was very easy to just get sucked into

I have been really looking forward to more from this universe because I LOVED the first two books. While this story was good it just didn't hold my interest as much as Declan and Amberlyn's.
Lena is lost when the book starts. It's been three years that she has been gone from home and nothing has changed for her, emotionally speaking. She just isn't dealing with all the crap Casey did well (which is understandable) but she is turning to alcohol, drugs, and men. That is until she meets Jackson..
The chemistry is between them is off the charts and within 30 minutes he leaves with her. But along the way Jackson isn't sure this is just a random hook up...that is until he ask her how much he owes her. Which is funny but heartbreaking because it is the reality check Lena needs. Then her mom gets sick and she must return home what she wasn't expecting was for Jackson to have left London too and already be in Mayo.
It makes for an interesting story between the two. They come together rather quickly and most of the battles in the story are between Lena and her mom coming to terms with Lena living how she wants to live.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. I didn't love it like the previous ones but it was a good read. I would recommend it if you read the first two but it isn't completely necessary.

Words. Feelings. Pain. Tears.
Toni Aleo did a number on me with this book. I kept meaning to read it but as my never-ending TBR grows I missed the released date. I've dying to read about Lena since she was first mentioned in Whisky Prince. As much as I enjoyed Whisky Prince, I kept hoping for more of Lena. I took me a couple of days to write this review because I needed to decompress from the number that was done on me. Toni Aleo is one of my favorite writers but this book has to be one of my favorites. It's like Toni crawled into my mind and planted the most powerful words inside of it. Toni not only tackled a hard issue, she wrote about it in such a meaningful and relatable way that I felt proud knowing that I'm reading one of her books. When it comes to rape, most people write about it in a textbook way or the undermine it. They don't realize that no rape case is EVER the same. While they may be similarities, it's different for everyone. Lena was in love with a boy from the wrong side who eventually raped her. He took away her innocence, he violated her trust and privacy and he took away her right. Lena was broken and let her mother put her back together as best as she could. Lena spent years shut down and was engaged to someone who only wanted her for her title. It wasn't till she decided to break away and live on her own that she went on this venture to find herself. She has a downward spiral and has lost sight of who she is. It takes her mother being sick to wake her up and to bring her back home, but before that, Lena meets someone who changes her world. Que in Jackson. After sleeping together, he thought Lena was a whore since he couldn't believe someone like her could ever want him. Let me just say, I was trying to do Lena's accent in my mind while I was reading this book. She totally flips out and kicks him out. On a whim, Jackson not only goes home but ends up working for her family as well. Through ups and downs, Lena and Jackson helped rebuild one another. Jackson mended Lena's wounds and helped her conquer her demons. Little by little by being in love with Lena, he was able to overcome what no child should have gone through. Lena and Jackon are the perfect matches for each other. One of the things I loved most about this book was how unapologetic Lena was. On her road of rebuilding herself, she found who she really was. She wasn't her mom's carbon copy, she was Lena. The girl who goes to the bar after six pm, even if it's unladylike, the girl who swears, the one who isn't afraid to be her and break the unjust norms society has placed around her. She didn't care that Jackson wasn't who she should've been with, she's with him because he's her other half. This is a must-read book. Toni, you did it again

This was very off beat book for me. I wanted to read something that was a little different from what I regularly get and this book pleasantly surprised me. How Jackson and Lena met and what occurred in the first few chapters was pretty different. I loved that Jackson had no filter. He just said what he said and didn't hide from it. It was breath of fresh air. I liked him from the beginning, even if he was a jerk a bit at the beginning. He had this presence in the book that made you feel at home. He was that person that you could tell anything too and he would not judge you, because he had a past that he was trying to run away from also. That is what was special about Jackson. Jackson was the one that Lena needed, even if she didn't think she did. Lena is running from everything. At times I think that she wants to be someone else. People have hurt her over and over again and she is doing everything in her power to forget them and everyone else, so when she meets Jackson, she wants to forget. What she doesn't realize is that Jackson is going to be someone she will never forget. Even in their first experience together she will never forget what he says to her. They are going to need each other, but when Lena has to go back home, she feels that she will never see him again. What she doesn't know is that Jackson is going to take her advice.
Jackson and Lena don't think they need each other, but the more time the spend together, the more they will realize that the need each other more than ever. Jackson will teach Lena how to let go and let people in. Lena will teach Jackson to move on from a past that should not define him. They will run into some obstacles, but how they overcome them will be what will be what makes this book. They are far from perfect, but they will be perfect for each other. When Lena's past comes back that is when you will see how it has taken a hold of her for too long. Jackson is going to have to learn it is okay to be somewhere and not feel trapped. Lena's parents are not going to understand it and try to interfere, but there will be people that will defend what they have. The secondary characters in this book work well with the main characters because everyone wants what is best for them, even though they all think they know what it is. Trust is going to be a main factor in this book. It is fun to watch it grow throughout this book. The characters all grow and become even better people than what they started out as. You can't ask for a better story about redemption, forgiveness, love, and rebuilding.

‘Whiskey Rebellion’ was an unexpected delight from Toni Aleo. It’s the third book of ‘Taking Risks’ series. To tell you the truth when I see the name ‘Lena’ on top of the page, I was like: Wait a minute who was Lena? So guess what I did. I went back and re-read the series before starting it 🙂 But no worries if you haven’t read the first two books of the series, ‘Whiskey Rebellion’ can easily be read as a standalone.
Lena O’Callahan is the princess of Mayo, not really royalty but close enough 🙂 Since her childhood she was groomed and raised to be a lady. However, after couple of events that changed her life forever, she decides she wants to live her life, be free and feel alive. Unfortunately, everything is not going the way she expects. When her past catches up with her, she is spinning out of control by trying to drown everything by alcohol, drugs and sex. Right before she was summoned back to her O’Callahan duties, she meets Jackson. Jackson Tremblay is traveling the world and every city he is staying, he finds a job and work until he decides to move to the next city. On his last shift as a bartender in London, he meets with Lena. Their connection is instant and really strong. Since they are both leaving the city soon, they decide it is a good idea to hook-up. After their one-night stand, which ends badly, they both go different directions with regrets and knowing that they won’t be seeing each other again. Jackson decides that his next stop will be the amazing town Lena described, her hometown Mayo. What Lena and Jackson is not expecting is seeing each other again. Their chemistry is off the chart and when their relationship evolves from a hook-up to something more everything gets more complicated for them. I would recommend reading the first two books before delving into this one. It really needs the backstory. I would not consider it a stand alone, even though it has two new characters. The book depends on too much from the previous two, and though a lot is reviewed, there is just...a lot.
So this book revolves around Lena--the sister of the "royal" family. She was the one who was behaving and doing what was expected of her...until she went wild. We can see why: she went through a traumatic event and then had to relive that trauma because the dude would not stop harassing her. Luckily, she meets Jackson, and despite a rocky start, they just click, and she starts to get her life back together and learns to be her own person.
It was good, and there were multiple conflicts from a few angles that made the book more interesting with more depth. First, we had the fact that BOTH Lena and Jackson are still stuck in the past, just with different stuff. And then, we have the family aspect. Oh, boy. This family is so...ugh. The O'Callaghan family has dubbed themselves as royal because *checks notes* they are rich and have sold whiskey for a long time in the area. *scratches head* They literally (not figuratively) will treat people like "commoners" if they don't deem them in the "royal" or "upper" class. It's bizarre. It's like, yo, I know you don't think that your s#!t don't stank, but lean a little closer, see roses really smell like boo-boo-oh." (Thank you, Outkast, for helping me out with that one.) Even after the brother marries a "commoner," the mom still can't get over herself. SMH
You may not like Lena at first...or at all. I can see why. But after she calmed down a bit, I was all in. I thought this had everything a good romance story needed: hot fun fun time, solid story, good characterization, and some strong thematic elements. I can't complain.

Lena and Jackson have usurped Amerlyn and Declan as my favorite couple in the Taking Risks series (Although Fiona and Kane still have a special place in my heart, too!)
If you've read Amberlyn and Declan's story, you know that Lena hasn't had the easiest time in life despite being pseudo royalty. A heinous and cowardly act left her feeling like she couldn't trust and like she would never find true love.
So, she settled. Until she couldn't anymore. She leaves her home and her family in an attempt to escape. Escape responsibilities, escape pressure, escape him. But soon her escape turns into a little too much and she finds her life spiraling out of control.
Enter Jackson.
He's had his own share of struggles in the past and they've left him the nomad who doesn't put down roots. When he clashes with a sassy blonde with a thick Irish brogue, they share something amazing- until Jackson puts his foot in his mouth.
Tragedy brings Lena home. Recommendation brings Jackson to the Irish countryside. The two find their paths crossing again and their unable to resist each other.
The thing is, they both have a lot of baggage and when one starts to lighten their load, the other seems to take on excess. They have their pasts, they have their families, they have the public, and they have their expectations that leave them trying to figure out who they are and who they can be together.
Lena and Jackson were fun, they were endearing, they were annoyingly frustrating sometimes. I found myself wanting to reach through my screen and slap both of them a time or two (along with a few other people) but their journey was so worth it. We also get a peek into the lives of the others we grew to love from Whiskey Prince and Becoming the Whiskey Princess. The things we loved from the first two books make their reappearance and we see a love so very different than Amberlyn and Declans. It's a love full of turmoil, heartbreak, forgiveness, reflection, and happiness.
I wouldn't expect it any other way from Ms. Aleo.

Since I have read the first two books in this series, I was so surprised when I found out we were getting this book. I didn’t think we’d get Lena’s story so I was very anxious to read it. And it was very good, a wonderful story about overcoming your past. About having a future and a love you never knew you longed for. As with any Toni Aleo book there is major emotion, lots of laughs and those steamy love scenes!
Lena, the daughter of a very prestigious family in Ireland, was groomed to be the face of her family’s whiskey company once her mother decided to step back. But things, life really, happens and Lena decides she isn’t going to be that woman. Fleeing from a bad experience she decides its time to rebel and be the polar opposite of what’s expected of her. And she goes full throttle to. She drinks to much, sleeps with any willing guy, and dabbles in drugs a bit. But she can’t stop and go back, there’s to many bad memories back home. When she meets Jackson in a bar, she feels a connection but ignores it and has a one night stand. But can’t seem to forget him.
Jackson is a Canadian traveling wherever he wishes. He changes cities every 3 months and is loving every minute of his freedom. Jackson has demons he’s trying to get always from back home. He loves his mom but just can’t stay put in Canada any longer and needs the freedom to do as he wishes.
After finding out her mother is ill Lena heads home and tries to become the model daughter she’s needed to be...to an extent. She refuses to back slide completely into who she used to be. The new Lena will do what’s asked of her, but her way or no way.
Jackson’s time is up at his current city and he decides to check out a place his last hook up told him about. He ends up at a whiskey distillery in Ireland, and guess who’s family owns it... yep you guessed it.
See what happens when Lena and Jackson are reunited and the attraction they felt as strangers is still sizzling.
This is a stand alone, but it’s always more fun to read the whole series.
Lena, the daughter of a very prestigious family in Ireland, was groomed to be the face of her family’s whiskey company once her mother decided to step back. But things, life really, happens and Lena decides she isn’t going to be that woman. Fleeing from a bad experience she decides its time to rebel and be the polar opposite of what’s expected of her. And she goes full throttle to. She drinks to much, sleeps with any willing guy, and dabbles in drugs a bit. But she can’t stop and go back, there’s to many bad memories back home. When she meets Jackson in a bar, she feels a connection but ignores it and has a one night stand. But can’t seem to forget him.
Jackson is a Canadian traveling wherever he wishes. He changes cities every 3 months and is loving every minute of his freedom. Jackson has demons he’s trying to get always from back home. He loves his mom but just can’t stay put in Canada any longer and needs the freedom to do as he wishes.
After finding out her mother is ill Lena heads home and tries to become the model daughter she’s needed to be...to an extent. She refuses to back slide completely into who she used to be. The new Lena will do what’s asked of her, but her way or no way.
Jackson’s time is up at his current city and he decides to check out a place his last hook up told him about. He ends up at a whiskey distillery in Ireland, and guess who’s family owns it... yep you guessed it.
See what happens when Lena and Jackson are reunited and the attraction they felt as strangers is still sizzling.
This is a stand alone, but it’s always more fun to read the whole series.

Another fantastic read by Toni Aleo!
I have read several different series by Toni Aleo, but this is a new one from me. No, I haven’t read the first two yet, but I will definitely be adding them to my to read list!
Lena was born into a dynasty, groomed to be the Whiskey Princess, until her world was ripped from underneath her, along with her innocence. Now, she isn’t really sure who she is. She knows she just doesn’t want to feel the fear or the pain again…booze, drugs, and meaningless sex gives that to her.
Jackson is traveling Europe, stopping places only long enough to make money before moving on. He never stays very long in one place, and he has no shortage of women. When he Lena strolls into the bar where he is working in London, he’s immediately under her spell. He wants to get to know her, but when she offers a hook-up, he can’t refuse. He thinks he’ll never see her again, so why not?
After their hook-up, Jackson insults her, not really meaning to. Any thoughts of sticking around are thrown out of the window when she throws him out of her penthouse. Even after their encounter, neither can forget their connection. They have no idea each will see each other a lot sooner than they thought they would.
My heart went out to Lena. She gave her trust to someone she loved, and he not only took her heart but decimated her. She always wanted to be like her mother, but she ran from that and her family that adored her. She thinks she can control her life finally, but she is finding out that the alcohol, the drugs, and the sex are beginning to control her. She returns home when her mother is ill, and when she discovers Jackson there, he forces her past to break through her defenses.
Jackson has his own issues, but I knew he saw Lena’s pain and wanted to help her. He loved her. I just kept hoping he would find a way for him and Lena to be together.
Not only was this a fantastic romance, it was a story about self-discovery, healing, and happiness.

‘Whiskey Rebellion’ was an expected delight from Toni Aleo. It’s the third book of ‘Taking Risks’ series, which is my fav series by Toni. It can be read as a stand alone—but the others are so fabulous and easy reads, you can just one click them as well.
Lena O’Callaghan is the princess of Mayo, the Whiskey Princess by birth if you will. since her childhood she was groomed and raised to be a lady. However, after couple of events that changed her life forever, she decides she wants to live her life, be free and feel alive. Unfortunately, everything is not going the way she expects. When her past catches up with her, she is spinning out of control by trying to drown everything by alcohol, drugs and sex. She is summoned back to Mayo to live up to the O’Callaghan name—but not before she meets the wondering Canadian, Jackson.
Jackson Tremblay is traveling the world and every city he is staying, he finds a job and work until he decides to move to the next city. Jackson’s childhood was horrible in the beginning. His dad forced him to stay away from his mom for years. It all ended when Jackson found his dad had had a heart attack and died. When he returned to his mom he was very distraught. When he turned 21 he decided he was going to travel the world. Spending 3 months in all the different places he went. While in London this beautiful girl walks into the pub he is working at. He is mesmerized by her. Lena is running from her past. When she meets Jackson she is going through a party stage in her life. She has no cares in the world. After a short conversation she convinces Jackson to come to her place. He can help her forget what she is running from. A miss communication between the two has Lena angry and Jackson heading out of town. His next destination is Mayo Ireland. He finds this little pub to work at, and some housing to stay in during his 3 month stay. Mayo is a small town know for its Whiskey. All the towns people talk about is the Whiskey prince and princess. He also get a job working in the stables for the royal family. When the one person he cannot stop thinking about walks into the pub he is shocked. Lena is the Whiskey princess. Back in Mayo because her mother is sick and she need to be the face of the royal family. The chemistry between Lena and Jackson is undeniable. They cannot stay away from each other no matter how much her mother wants her to. Will Lena be able to convince her mother that Jackson is the only one she wants for the rest of her life?

As a fan of Whiskey Prince and it's sequel I was super excited to hear that there would be a third book - this time Lena's story.
Lena is trying to bury her past - the pain, the memory, and feelings over it in any way she can, drinking, sex, and then some. She recognizes that she doesn't know who she is anymore and yet she can't seem to care enough to stop herself. Until Jackson. Something about her initial interaction with him makes her feel something different though she's not exactly sure what - but then she discovers he's gone and she's back to the place she was in. When her brother calls her home - she's not ready but she returns anyways and unexpectedly finds Jackson there.
Jackson's going through his own stuff, on holiday from life and his past - he's enjoying his journey throughout the world. But he's got plans - and with those plans are deadlines - so he's only in Mayo for a short period of time - except can he really leave Lena once he's fallen for her.
Whiskey Rebellion is quite the journey for our main characters, they've both go things in the past to work through, for Lena it's a bit more difficult because of everything involved and her position in her family - the need for her to be lady like and poised and she just isn't. That's not to say she's not a good woman because she is - she's just hurting and suffering and has lost her way. The connection between Jackson and Lena resonates throughout the story, drawing the reader further in and keeping us rooting for these two to figure it out.

Lena is rebelling hard, and quite often. She was labeled the 'Whiskey Princess at birth because of her family and she's been trying to outrun that. Alcohol, men, avoiding her family and home, etc. You name it, she's pretty much tried it, or plans to. When she walks into a bar one night and it culminates in a sexy encounter with Jackson, she assumes it'll end like all the others have...the sun rises and one of them walks out the door, interlude over and forgotten. But fate, and Jackson, have other plans.
Jackson has been traveling through Europe, picking up work here and there along the way. He's not the type of man to lay down roots, but when the beautiful woman extends an invitation he eagerly accepts. There's something about her, about the two of them together, that has an impact on their temporary goal. However, Jackson is leaving the next day, and though he may realize he wants more, he doesn't think he can have it.
Fate though, thankfully, steps in as Lena is called home to Ireland when her mother becomes ill. It just so happens Jackson is in the same area and finds a job looking after horses, for Lena's family.
The connection between Jackson and Lena is just as strong as ever and only grows as they're once again in such close proximity. But, Lena isn't the only one struggling. Jackson has his own issues and they're part of the reason he can't stay in one place.
Can Jackson and Lena overcome their pasts and demons to embrace the future they could have together? Or will they let it continue to rule their actions and dictate the happiness they could find? Is a HEA possible?

Whiskey Rebellion is book three in the Takng Risks Series but it can be read as a stand-alone, I know this because I have read a fair few books by Toni Aleo but this is the first in this particular series, I was not disappointed in fact I will be one clicking books one and two.
The attraction between Lena and Jackson was instant and maybe a little bit crazy but that’s just the start of this beautifully written story and I really enjoyed seeing their relationship develop as the story unfolds. Lena was raised as a lady but she needs some excitement in her life in fact she needs to feel alive, she needs to work out just where her life is going, she need to get out of tailspin her life was going in and meeting Jackson might be just what she needs problem is for reasons only he knows Jackson only stays in one place for a maximum of 3 months. Lena and Jackson have a one night stand that ends up with her telling him about her home town of Mayo in Ireland and it plants a seed in Jackson’s mind to visit as part of his trip around Europe the last thing he expects was Lena to be there and for her to get so far under his skin his 3 month rule needs to be reconsidered.......
I loved the way this author describes the small and peaceful village of Mayo, I loved Jackson he is so strong and supportive of Lena and I loved how he founds ways to make her smile and cheer her up.
This is a love story with plenty of steamy scenes and even though I have not read the previous two books I still got a lot of enjoyment out of Lena and Jackson’s story.
