Clara was confused when she encountered the sign outside the Cyborg breeding facility. She wanted a child and nothing would stand in her way. But she didn’t heed the sign’s warning—she had more important things on her mind—and once she understood, it was too late. Her heart was already on the line.
Reid was the ultimate protector, the perfect bodyguard, his loyalty embedded in his DNA. The animal his creators chose for him was a favorite, a downright blessing, and an ongoing nightmare. He found the perfect reprieve after the Great Galactic War: Division Head of the last Cyborg breeding facility on Earth. The empty halls offered more than silence—they offered him sanctuary.
Territory.
When a woman walked through his door, begged to join the program, and wouldn’t take no for an answer, her delicate features and desperation awakened a behavior that had long lain dormant—his need to claim.

Naomi Lucas is an indie author. She loves being creative whether it’s with painting, writing, or making little jingles about her dog, Barracuda, or her cat, Daliah, in the car.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙🖤💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌎 Character development: 😔🤨😛😁🥰
The heroine:Clara - she only ever wanted a normal life, a husband, children and a home. However, her fiancé recently broke up with her after finding out about her baggage. The baggage, Santino her sadistic ex, was just released from prison and she was sure he would be coming after her. So, Clara ran. She ran as far as she could think. She had just enough money saved to be on the run a few months, and she was determined to live her life without a man. Which is why she was on her way to a cyborg breeding facility with the hopes of getting pregnant with a baby she could raise alone.
The Hero:Reid - he was a shifter cyborg with a tendency to shift into a beast and never want to shift back. He was in charge of the cyborg breeding facility and often had to turn away humans who came looking for something that they didn’t provide. His heart was frozen by his choice of a career.
The Story: If Clara was accepted into the cyborg breeding program, her life wouldn’t be her own for the next three months. She would get three tries to get pregnant and would stay at the facility and be monitored 24/7 to make sure she didn’t do anything to jeopardize the process. She needed some reconstructive surgery before she could get pregnant since she had been stabbed in the stomach and lower by her abusive ex. If she were to get pregnant, she would have to stay at the facility for the duration of her pregnancy and the months following.
I liked the premise of this book, though there were some things that bothered me. For one thing, Reid and a metal dog were the only beings Clara saw at the facility and she never saw them at the same time. That and the fact that his name was Dr. Reid Canis, should have alerted her to the fact that he was the dog, even if she didn’t know cyborg shifters existed and thought Reid was only a standard cyborg. Yet, it was obvious that Clara had no idea that the dog was Reid.
This book was quite steamy and I really liked the scene where the two main characters finally got together, it was very hot. There wasn’t much romance, just a ton of chemistry and mutual attraction before they hooked up. Though the world building and character development were great in this story.
This book is slightly different to the other books of the series so far. The action does not happen on a spaceship or on an alien planet. The story takes place on Earth which apparently is not a friendly place anymore - especially if you are a lonely woman who tries to get pregnant with any way possible and she is chased by her psycho ex.
Reid is a cyborg and a shifter (maybe the last cyborg on earth as sometimes he jokes). He is also the Head of the last Cyborg breeding facility on Earth. A facility which it has only one doctor, himself. And 0% success in breeding.
When Clara appears asking to be bread with Cyborg DNA, Reid realises that she mainly wants a place to hide. So he does what he knows best. He tries to throw her out and discourages her from coming back. Reid has survived alone for so many decades and although his natural instincts urge him to form a pack, he continuously denies his true nature.
But apparently he will like Clara and he will want to protect her and when she finally convinces him to experiment with her, he will only wish to give her his own DNA.
This is a very interesting story and moreover lots of the characters from the previous books will appear. It is time for a few cyborg mates to have babies :)
I think the fourth story of the Cyborg-shifter universe has made the series stronger and I can easily predict many many books to come.
This was my first book in the series. I dont know if it is a standalone. I enjoyed reading it. It was my first Cyborg romance. Hero and heroine both are strong and likable characters. The writing style and story is good. Their love scenes are seriously hot. Still I wasn’t completely satisfied by the book. Something was missing. And i wanted the heroine’s delivery scene as epilogue. And there was no follow up on secondary characters. I thought they Also belonged to Reid’s pack. Over all good Cyborg romance. Recommended.
Okay, so, Mutt is the fourth installment of the Cyborg Series. It's also probably the shortest book too. This book follows Clara and Reid into a whirlwind and super instantaneous romance. Reid is a doctor and a Cyborg. At this point, he's not really talking to the other Cyborgs like we've seen in the previous books. Then there's Clara who has been in terrible relationships throughout her life. Some were very dangerous because she ended up in the hospital from the last guy. She's sort of running away from her past and wants to start fresh - with a family. Well, a baby.
When they first meet, well Reid doesn't want her to do the procedure. Then there's sexual tension between the two and I was waiting, impatiently, for the smut to happen. When it did - fireworks man! I loved these two. Clara didn't whine or complain. Either did Reid - he just wanted vengeance for the guy stalking her because of what he did.
Overall, I love how territorial these guys are. Plus, having each book getting better and better is a pro in my eyes. I'm glad that I didn't really get weird cyborg shifting sex in this one. Oh, and I'm happy I got see Katrina having her baby! FINALLY! Okay, on to the next book!
I found it unbelievable that Reid's jerkiness drove so many women away from being artificially inseminated. Free treatment for health reasons that made it hard or impossible to have kids, free access to top of the line medical care in general, a place to stay, food, safety... So many people struggle to have kids.. It was inconceivable that more did not accept terms. Also, I didn't understand why Reid was purposely pushing possible donors away..
I liked Clara but couldn't believe her naivety. Just yesterday, she was crying - swearing off men due to horrible abuse in the past. Just yesterday, Reid was a cold prick to her. The next day he started being hot and cold all the time and she wanted him. She wanted to have his baby instead of being inseminated??? Her past was horrible! One ex was still after her! She sure gets over everything quick. HORRIBLE judgment... TSTL?
And, let's discuss Reid eyeballing her naked lady bits and thinking about going down on her while under anesthesia.... Then grabbing her there when she wakes up and telling her he's looking at her healing scars.. creep alert...
Then.... the confrontation in the office happened. Reid was such a dick to her. He yelled and talked down to her- pretty much called her pathetic . He physically threatened her when she tried to leave by slamming the door so hard it left a dent with his fist and then he entrapped her. And her reaction was she was going to take care of Santino and then come back to him... W.T.F. TSTL!!!! How could a woman who was stabbed in her stomach and vagina by one of her last boyfriends trust Reid? He was acting like a f****** psycho!!! Great person to put in charge of your babies lady!!!
And just when I thought it couldn't get worse, it did. While she is in her room packing, Reid busts in and forces himself on her. He wants to take her from Santino by screwing her and then go kill him. While he forced her against the wall, she cried, she told him no, and then she wrapped her legs around his waist. Grrrr. He then told her... direct quote: "The facility owns the surgery, your body for the next 3 months, and the baby were going to make. I own it" She continued to tell him no but in her mind, she was horny... Then she gave in.... This woman is too stupid to be a mom
Of course, right after they had sex, he screwed up and treated her like crap again. She finally came to some type of sense and left him. He stalked her in dog form for 2 months without speaking to her. He decides he has to live off world so he finally approaches her. He tells her that he wants her go with him. Of course she goes. Who wouldn't want to be completely reliable in space on a guy you have only known for a short time? Who physically threatens and scares you? A guy who is overwhelming controlling? A guy who likes and says extremely nasty things to you?
So, they go to planet Ghost and guess who's there? The other most horrible MCs in this series: Dominic and Kat. They'll be perfect best friends. Both of the guys are controlling a-holes and both of the girls are complete doormats. I'm sure their kids will turn out great! F me. Lol. Other than not liking the main characters, the story was luckily short and it did keep me entertained- even if it was with frustration so gave it 2 stars... Oh, and btw, no real closure w/ Santonio...
I really hope the next book is good. I keep going back and forth with this author and series. Overall, I like the books but there've been a couple that had MC's I absolutely could not stand.
There was so much more potential for this book. Dogs are such loyal, loving, caring, and smart creatures. This cyborg is part dog yet had none of those qualities
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
It felt short, incomplete and repetitive. Let me explain. The MC was boring, hiding and lacking confidence in the worst way possible. She was annoying in the middle, and Reid did not help at all with his actions and words. It felt like the author tried to make this book about opposite attracting while also writing the oblivious troupe about Clara being an orphan, making bad exes, and on the run because one of exes is trying to kill her.
Omg.
The writing and the editing made this short novella a painful read because it felt chunky and ill paced in some chapter. Take chapter 10, in this chapter we go from someone leaving, to staying, to another hot scene and getting a resolution to everything by the end of this chapter. The way of how this was written was rushed, pushed forwarded without any thought or consideration. It was like as if the author was bored, switched to a hot scene then remember the MC had a killer to finish off. This how most of the book felt.
In summary:
It was an array of mismatched scenes that had no connection or flow between scenes. As a reader, I knew this book was slow, but some details blogged the story from reaching its good potential since it's plot details were unique and the world setting was developed.
The characters sucks. The writing is okay. The editing was a poor, piss job that makes this book and this author a huge 'No' for me. At the end of the day, there are better sci-fi romance cyborg novels out there, and this one is just a poor copy cat attempt.
I absolutely love Naomi’s Cyborg Shifter series, so this novella was a treat while I anxiously await Gunner’s book!
Clara is a woman on the run from her past, a past that is trying to catch up with her. She wants nothing more than to move on with her life and be happy, and more than anything, she wants a child. A family. When she comes to the Cyborg Breeding Facility and meets Dr. Reid Canis, she asks for his help but discovers she going to get much more than she’s asked for.
Reid isn’t quite the type of doctor to play by the rules, and he wants to break every single one when it comes to Clara. He’s a lonely mutt who secretly wants a pack of his own but is scared to lose more people he cares for. Though he does as much as he can to push her away, he’s drawn to her. Not to mention his canine half has already bonded with her. He’s got such a soft, warm heart despite his cold exterior. He’s also one sexy, naughty doctor! Seriously steamy.
Mutt is another wonderful addition to the Cyborg Series. Loved it and can’t wait for Gunner’s!
Let me start by saying that I've been a super fan of this author since book 1. Unfortunately this book just doesn't cut it. The story feels incomplete in places, there's no feeling of connection between leads, and the male lead is a JERK with NO redeeming qualities. This book won't stop me from auto-clicking future ones, but I pray there are no more like this.
This book was fairly well thought out, with both MCs having oodles of trauma. I did and also didn’t get the draw to Reid, because he was so hot and cold. I’m pretty sure the Katy Perry song is talking about him. Clara was a complex and interesting character, so I enjoyed following her story.
Spice: 3/5
Triggers: dubcon, rape (side character off page), domestic abuse (off page), stabbing (off page)
This has to be my least favorite one of all. I loved the first three, but this novella fell flat. If may be the fact that it was a novella that tanked it. Liked the characters terms themselves, but I never once felt the connection. Check, their first time. Was more confusing than sexy. Was she saying no? Was he ignoring that? It was like two virgins coming together very uncomfortably. And that was par for the course for all their interactions. Not just sex either. They never clicked together and we were never sure what they were really feeling for each other as they thought one thing, but did something different. It was beyond strange. There wasn't much actual interaction between them before he was claiming to love her, which was a shock as his actions were more of her being his property than any soft feelings. Maybe if more had actually happened in the story itself and between them, that might have changed. There just wasn't enough story to feel anything. Some authors are really good at creating strong relationships with little space, but this author isn't one of them. She needs to stick to the longer more involved stories that build the bond. It's her strength. Next we have the main plot being her ex and him stalking her. Well that just fizzles out. Nothing really happens with it. At least not within the story. We learn Reid did something, but we don't know what it was and we definitely miss the action dealing with this would have given the story. Another so very strange thread in a tangled mess that is this book.
Cyborg dog shifter runs a breeding clinic by him self for women dV survivor MC wants a baby after her ex fiancé stabbed her last baby out of her (actual event not re hashed just mentioned that she got stabbed and that she had an abortion- * TRIGGER WARNING * Boy becomes instaobbsessed and girl is a little turned on, boy fixes uterus and then offers to inseminate girl with rando cyborg sperm .. girl suddenly freaks out and then boy and girl get jiggy with it and cyborg gives girl babies. ... boy is in instalove and girl freaks out runs away but secretly wants boy but they barley spent maybe more than a week together if that maybe 4 days max... he hunts her down stalks her ... they end up in space on his space ship. It’s super awkward with ZERO chemistry and LOTS OF TALKING ABOUT SPERM so much sperm seed sperminising seed in her. It’s a lot
Dystopian world, the h wants a family but needs some surgical repairs if she is to become pregnant. The Doctor is not human, and knows that she is trouble mostly because he wants her. He has a number of issues to resolve before can a safe relationship with her. She bonds with his animal, not knowing exactly what he is. It's a strange world, and the writer shows the reader what life might be like after Cyborg wars. But somewhere between the setting, the writing style and the characters there was a distance and I found it hard to connect with them. They were all emotionless and so was my reading experience. I'll try it again next year.
Seriously one of my favorite series. This little novella did not disappoint. Reid the mutt cyborg was yum. He's into breeding so IYKYK when it comes to this trope. Definitely the cyborgs are the main attraction here and the FMCs fail to impress me, but it is what it is. I mean how could they? Lot's of questions I had were answered here. It definitely takes on a feminist vibe in this only because women aren't allowed off of Earth unless they work for the government. They're essentially prisoners and are used and encouraged to populate the human race. People are even raising their children as boys if they're girls just so they have a chance to get them off planet. Female population is low as it is. Cyborgs are able to impregnate human women and it's against the law and can end in devestation if found out. As most are off planet, but there are cyborgs who still work for the government. Anyone helping females off planet are given life sentences in prison. Cyborgs were originally created to fight off an alien takeover year's ago. Earth though is quite the shitshow in the future here. The author goes into detail how cyborgs impregnate human women and their nanoparticles etc. She did really well in this one with her explanations. it's fascinating to say the least. Still primal. Still hot AF once the spice hits, but if you're into sweet and loving then this isn't for you. The next book is what got me started when I first learned of this series. I've read it more than once and I'll probably read it again because Gunner is weird and unhinged. I mean he has guns with the triggers pointing to his mouth tattooed on his face. He's famous for having multiple sex bots and getting off with men or women.

Mutt is book 4 of the Cyborg Shifters series and is novella length. This book is about Dr. Reid Canis, cyborg dog shifter, and Clara Warren, a 31 year old woman with no family and nowhere to go. Clara goes to Dr. Canis because she wants him to help her get pregnant. I enjoyed the first 3 books in the series but this book didn't do it for me.
I thought that this book was boring and didn't flow well. I also didn't form any attachments to the characters and didn't care about either of the main characters at all. I was really disappointed.
My favorite part of this book was at the very end of the epilogue when we got a follow up snippet for Dommik and Kat from book 1.
I recommend this series but suggest skipping this book. The only thing that happened or had any mention of the prior books characters was that very short piece at the end where we see Kat So if you skip this book, you won't be missing anything else important.
Earth is such a dismal place to live ever since the war with the Trentians 40 years earlier. Women are few and far between. Dr. Reid runs a fertility clinic that hasn't had a pregnancy in years. It's a place for him to hide out away from the horrors of the war. Clara comes to the clinic hoping to get her damaged womb repaired. She gets more than she signed on the dotted line for. I didn't like the personality of the hero. He was such a smug prick most of the time. The heroine was an emotional mess. Understandable since she had been married to an abusive man. I enjoyed the epilogue. It gave a closure to the first book in this series. There is a short scene toward the end of the book that gives a hint that there should be a book about a female enemy of the cyborgs. I'm looking forward to that one.
When I first started reading this series, I made a terrible mistake: I assumed it was like other SFR series where it really didn't matter if you read them out of order, because they're all pretty much the same—some so much so that they literally repeat their own dialogue in certain points every time. I wasn't prepared for these, to put it mildly.
I had started with Chaos Croc—didn't get it, was confused. Tried this one. Was very confused and couldn't wrap my head around what was going on and why. Decided to start back at the beginning and finally figured things out by book 2 when it all clicked into place for me, and decided I would reread the books I started with and review them as it happened.
Well, today is finally that day for Mutt. More than 18 months later.
TW/CW: stalker ex, heroine on the run, memories/mentions of past violence committed to the heroine, the most dubious of consent and rape, mention of a rape, kidnapping/confined, stalker/obsessed hero
I say this every NL review I write, but I'll repeat it again: There are no marshmallow, safe Alphas in these books.
There are plenty of writers who write "monsters" and "beasts" who are 100% neither of those things. No shame, just don't expect them here. You wanted a monster, you're getting a monster. Lucas writes beasts and monsters who....act and think like beasts and monsters. While these cyborgs are part human, their humanity is always jaded and broken by their treatment, and it's rarely driving things. You're getting the beast paired with the coldness of the machine with little shots of soft from parts of these characters who want something soft for themselves.
Warning, mild spoilers ahead. They are contained under spoiler tags, but these do not always work.
While some of Lucas' shifters are almost soft bois, Reid...is not. He does have a heart-rending, desperate need to belong to someone and have someone belong to him, but he's also an obsessed stalker of a cyborg with an unstable personality and takes what he wants and seems to have no qualms about being disliked. So. No, he's not Nice. He's not waiting for verbal consent. And despite being a canine, he's super distrusting. And he's on a lonely mission:
Clara is...well, a big ball of trauma looking for a place to land and grasping at whatever straws she can. I'm not a fan of the Orphan/Foster Kid Who Makes Terrible Life Choices Trope—I've bagged on it in other book reviews—and the inevitable "being a mother will fix everything for me" that often comes along with it. As far as Lucas' heroines go, Clara is not a favorite, because she's very flat. I'm still not sure I could tell you much about her except that she has unusual eyes and a need and hate for domineering men. She spends the entire story wanting a Thing, then vehemently denying she wants that Thing.
I do agree with the more critical reviews of this story that it doesn't feel as polished as others in the series. There are several loose threads that are left hanging or get clipped right at the end in an unexpected way that's not as fulfilling.
But.
I do like that this story did fill in a little of the world building with details like dates and more clearly stating what life is like for women on Earth, as well as hinting at details in the next story. While the Trentians are mentioned several times in this story, there still wasn't much fed to us about them, leaving them largely shrouded in mystery along with what exactly is going on with Earth's government/s. Except that some "Trentian" women—I'm assuming hybrids—may be on Earth.
So this is far from a perfect story, but I still found myself really liking it.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
This time around, we have a cyborg with canine DNA who takes an immediate shine to the lady who walks into his facility. Okay, I say "immediate," but Reid sort of had to work himself up to letting himself give into his wants. Because, you know, he's a cyborg and they take their time on things like that.
While Reid is fighting the insta-pull to Clara, Clara is...not really looking to have a man in her life. Like, at all. She wants kids and a family, but she's been burned pretty hard and she's determined to do this on her own. Well, with the help of the Cyborg Breeding Facility, I guess. But she doesn't expect to have to interact with her baby-daddy and all that. Which, CLEARLY, won't work for Reid.
You know how it is - canine enhanced cyborg meets a woman with a painful past and THINGS HAPPEN. Things. Things of a sexy nature.
I'm still digging these cyborgs and their predatory, protective ways. Bring on the next book!
I really really want to like this series. The imagination and world is interesting. The writing though, it’s terrible. The author jumps around so much in the story line. It’s like she’s missing paragraphs all over the place. I’ve read four books in the series now. I’m not going to give up. I’ll finish the next book. Like I said, I like the stories. It’s just really difficult to get past the writing style.
Spoilers, so beware: This book only gets two stars because the storyline is not as great as the other books. (They all got three stars. Based on the writing style.) I just don’t understand the h. She is running from an ex but decides getting pregnant is the way to do that?!? The H is nothing but a jerk to her (in his human form) but she sleeps with him anyway?? Furthermore, when they finally do have sex, she was trying to get him to stop. She said no. He kept going. Um. Not okay. It’s wasn’t rape but no is no. Don’t use it in your storyline. 😠
Well… this wasn’t great. The only reason I finished it was because I wanted context that may be needed for the rest of the series. Reid was awful… and Clara was boring and a little dumb. The only saving Grace was the last chapter and the epilogue. Not because of romance but because interesting things actually happened.
One of the worst parts of this book was the fact that there was so much talk about the dangers of Clara’s ex, Santino, but it never actually came to be! Like why build all of that up to do nothing with it? It was just boring. I kind of appreciated the interactions with the cop and her girlfriend, but even that was short lived.
The romance was just dead… like there literally was none. It wasn’t sexy… he basically forced himself on her and while I can get into some occasional non-con or preferably dub-con, this just wasn’t done well. I don’t know… I was quite disappointed. I usually love Naomi’s writing. This just didn’t do it for me.

Interesting. Reid may be a cyborg but he looks human unlike the previous guys in this series. He is a dog shifter cyborg and a doctor. Clara is running from her last and a dangerous man, but she wants a child badly. She believes that she can get pregnant with a cyborg child. So she goes the the clinic that Reid is in charge of. I liked Reid. He behaved like a cyborg which is to be expected but he also had moments of intense feelings. He seemed to feel things stronger emotionally but hid them well. Clara was not my favorite heroine. I know she suffered trauma in her past, which could explain a few things. But she still annoyed me with her behavior towards Reid at times. I still enjoyed the book though and will be reading more.
I enjoy the cyborg shifters. You get the best of both worlds, cyborgs and shifters.
Reid Canis is a Cyborg doctor on Earth, running a breeding facility with no patients. He is lonely but stays by himself.
Clara wants a baby. She's planning on going to breeding facility so that she can get the surgery she needs so she can have a baby. When Reid meets her, he realizes he's in trouble.
I really enjoy the connection Clara and Reid are eventually able to form. There was one part that made me very sad.
I kind of felt like I was missing parts of this story, you know like the part when the characters became more than strangers or the section where they fell in love. The general premise is interesting, though I can't completely understand how the whole cyborg baby thing works because how exactly do you give birth to a machine? The characters were intriguing but it just didn't come together for me because like I said it felt like entire sections of the story just weren't there.
I had a little bit of trouble with this one but only because Reid could be such a jerk at times! I understood part of where he was coming from with his attitude but I also think he should have been able to see that others have issues in their lives that they deal with on a daily basis and he isn't alone in feeling alone. But thankfully he figures it out and him and Clara work out their issues to their own happiness and safety. Now I don't know whether I want Gunnar's story next or Zeph's!! I'm ready for either though!!
I love Cyborgs!!! Ms. Lucas does not disappoint! Doctor Reid is gorgeous, he is also a Cyborg shifter, he shifts into a canine! He works on Earth at a Fertility Center. Clara is on her way to the center, she wants to have a baby. Her ex is in prison for severely physically abusing her. On her way to the center, she receives a call from the police letting her know he is out of prison. I enjoyed this story, I have been reading the series and enjoying each book! They are interesting page turners, filled with action and lots of steam.
I love this cyborg series. The extra DNA makes these books a little bit different from other cyborg series. Reid is a sexy cyborg doctor who will be fixing Clara's fertility problem. I like how Reid is a take charge protective male hero who cares for and protects Clara. Clara has had a rough time and definitely is in need of the good doctor. This author is always a guaranteed great read!
I usually like this author 's style of writing, missing words and all. And I love stories about cyborgs, but this one left a lot to be desired. I could not find any to like about any of the characters. The ending seemed rushed and not complete.
I think this.was my fav. He isolated himself and I couldn't really understand why. He said it's because of betrayal of dead but there isn't any back story. I liked Clara she was abused and hurt by a man but didn't have that victim personality. This was a great addition to the series.
