British actor Wes Hastings was just another of Jillian’s make-believe boyfriends. She never expected she’d actually meet him—on the Tube, of all places. She never expected their train to explode moments later. Her dream trip to London morphs into a nightmare. He’s not Wes Hastings the actor anymore. He’s the brave man showing her how to hold it together. She has basic first aid training. He has a dark sense of humor. They have each other—but his time is running out. For Wes to have a chance at survival, she’ll have to make a terrible choice. Moving on may prove an even more difficult challenge. They’ll be separated by an ocean, by his fame—by her integrity. And he never even got her name.
I think I loved it more this second time. Pluto and hell, I'm bumping it up to 5 stars!
While on a business trip in London, Jillian, a library archivist, falls victim to a Tube bombing attack. She survives the attack with minimum injuries but she is surprised to find herself offering first aid to famous actor Wes Hastings who's been on the car with her. Jillian overextends her physical and emotional strength in order to ascertain that Wes has a chance to survive his fatal injuries.
They both bond over their shared traumatic experience but later they discover that they have a lot more in common, especially their love for Shakespeare. But Jillian's life is in the US and there's more than an ocean between them.
I won't say more about the story except that I'm surprised this is the first novel from the author. It is very well written, with full character development and the plot is original and heartworming. For me it is a solid Romance and I recommend it to all my friends who like this Gender. Can't wait to read more from her in the future.
*Original review******* This is a great story but I would like it to be a little more longer. Some things felt really rushed. I enjoyed the relationship between the MC;s and how things progressed between them.
This is a cute little book kind of breaks the romcom mould. I’ve read a few chick lit novels that have all seemingly been written using the same blueprint; change a name, change a location and they’re basically the same book. This one, however, is a refreshing change. The author, an American, gets the British dialogue just right when her character hops onto a plane to London for work and leisure and somehow finds herself in the middle of a terrorist attack with only herself and her celebrity crush as survivors. There’s plenty of heart-stopping will-they-or-won’t-they? moments throughout the book to keep you on your toes for the duration of the ride.
I adored Second Life. Well done, Jaclyn! The story held me captivated from the very first page, I smiled, laughed, and even cried a little. I especially loved Mel's sassiness, and Jillian's heart. I swooned over Wes right along with Jillian and I rooted for both of these two beautiful main characters. I do look forward to reading more.
Just a little slow for me at the beginning but then it took off and I couldn't put it down. Absolutely loved it!! So glad that I bought it and can go back and read again. Great job Jaclyn! Can't wait for your next one.
