Great book. To me core and cardio training are the most important forms of training. The book is divided into 4 chapters.
The Introduction to what core training is. Chapter 2: Different core training exercise. This section is a step by step account with easy to follow pictures and detailed instructions on how to perform each exercise. Chapter 3 Training Programs: This chapter is gives examples of training programs how core training can help in warming up, to the main focus of the workout, to injury prevention. Chapter 4: is a summary of how core training can help in different sports.
The great thing about this book is it is for everyone, from athletes, to someone simple wanting to correct their posture. There are also detailed sections for exercise, and programs for women during and post pregnancy. This is a great book for whatever your excerise goals are. I also live the fact that most of the book's exercises, can be done with minimum equipment. There are enhancement that can be made using kettle bells and exercise balls and other equipment, but mostly there can be done using body weight training so they can be done anywhere.
This book talks in detail about the scientific approach to building a good core. Although the impact can be seen only after following it over a long period of time, the prescription seems to be logical.
This is one of the best core workout self-help books that I have come across.
Every single core workout is illustrated with clear picture and how to do.
I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to self-learn core workouts to improve your performance in your choice of sport.
As an ultramarathoner, I consistently work on developing and sustaining my core strength to be able to run longer, and in a stronger form. Core strength helps me a lot in that aspect.
Calls the bird-dog exercise a superman. Superman is a back extension but with arms out front of you and your legs raised as well so you're only on your abs/core, making you look like ... Superman!
Would say it's three star, but dropped it to only two stars because of constant formatting issues. Like advanced progressions appearing before the basic, or coming up in the middle of the steps of another technique. Pictures going from Basic 1->2, Advanced 1->4, then Basic 3->4.
Additionally, how they show to start the Turkish get up is a good way to injure your shoulder to the point of needing surgery. You DO NOT start with the weight above your head on the ground with your arm straight out, you start holding the weight straight armed in mid-air over your chest. An error like this is incredibly dangerous and shows that whoever read the description or made the pictures to go in this book doesn't actually know how to do a Turkish Get up.
Very helpful book, I learnt so much from a beginners point of view, it's very clear, very easy to read and it just shows how helpful it can be when there are pictures and explanation's to back up what is said.
Very informative and I like the way it progresses from beginner levels, intermediate and then advanced, you can look back and see how far you have come, also at the back is a "specific core training" programme, and I like the idea of that, so that was quite helpful, it also has specific bit for pregnant women - so you know what you can and cannot do, especially helpful with exercises for the pelvic floor!
