32 books48 followersHi there! I'm Chris Lester, and I tell stories. I've been doing it for as long as I can remember; whether the audience was a playmate, a classroom, a parent, or a room full of strangers, I've always had a soft spot for a tale well told.
I grew up on stories of places that never were, of science fiction and fantasy, heroes and gods. I was captivated by ideas of transformation and transcendence, of people who passed out of the world of the ordinary and into a world where the impossible could happen. While it was the spectacle and wonder of these stories that gripped me first, as I grew older I came to appreciate them for another reason: by taking us out of our mundane context, these authors could tackle ideas and quandaries that would otherwise be too close for the reader's comfort. Authors like Tolkien and Heinlein and Card may have written stories filled with impossible things, but the stories were ABOUT ideas and problems at the heart of human experience. They were stories about people -- and whether those people were hobbits or Martians or nine-year-old military masterminds, there was Truth to be found in these stories that could be of value to us today.
It's my hope that my own stories inspire you to think about these deeper issues, as well -- and give you a rollicking good time in the process.

The Lost and the Least picks up where Things Unseen (Book 3) leaves off, and goes deeper into the story following Detective Kate Kitaen. When I say deeper, what I mean is darker. This is Book 5 in the series and unfolds the drama and intrigue of the previous books in a gorgeous manner. There is a Book 4 of short stories that interludes between and definitely adds to the final book, but isn't strictly necessary to enjoy Book 5.
Kate is a likeable and flawed character, and she is the center of the culmination of the events preceding. There are several characters that are just as nuanced and have their own rich histories as Kate, such as Callie, Morgan, Michael. Chris Lester has woven rich tapestry from the threads, and pulls them together in a symphonic manner beautifully.
You will feel like this entire experience in Metamor City is time very well spent by the end!

This exciting epic adventure combines many subgenres & themes so well (just look at how many shelves I put it on!). It builds on the plots in previous stories in the Metamor City universe, intertwining the stories and fates of characters whose tales had previously been separate. The plot is clever and intricate, and the characterization and character development is superb.
When trying to describe this book I keep thinking of "___ but doesn't feel too ____" (long but doesn't feel too long, complex plot that doesn't feel too complex, many important characters but doesn't feel too many characters who don't get enough screen time, etc). It's a really well crafted and well written book!

This is the first time I’ve read a Chris Lester story instead of listening to it, and I’m glad to say it holds up on the page. Although I could still hear all the voices from the original podcast’s returning characters in my head, so that was fun.
This is quite a dramatic and emotional story, which Chris excels at. Lots of feels! And many amusing exchanges to balance the weight of the storyline. I’m looking forward to the next one.

The next book in Chris’ Metamor City universe leaves me wanting!
An incredible story, advancing his Metamor City saga from its beginnings with the first two novels. I cannot wait for the next book! Fans of both Urban Fantasy and Cyberpunk will find a lot to like here.
