ReGina Welling prefers not to talk about herself in the third person so...

I live in Maine with my husband, a silly flufferpup named Dash, and a crazy cat named Cricket. I write full time and also create mixed media artwork when I get the chance.

When I was three, my mom brought home a new book and when she went to read it to me, I read it to her instead. That was when she realized I'd learned to read. Since then I couldn't even estimate the number of books I've read. It's a lot!

I haven’t read the entire collection but I just finished reading The Mail-Order Witch by Joynell Schultz. If the other stories are as good as hers everyone should read this entire book!! (I will finish it and then write a complete review).

Everything Joy writes about is magical. This story mirrors the struggles people have in relationships and gives good sound advice to stay together. It is impossible to feel “down” when reading anything Joy writes about.

I hope people everywhere will read her stories. Your outlook on life will change dramatically. Please read any story she has written and you will see what I’m talking about. The only thing you will loose is a gloomy outlook on life! She is a fantastic writer and I for one thank God every day that I found her stories and that she decided to be a writer so she could share her wonderful positive outlook on life with the rest of us.

I borrowed this strictly for the Hungry Cat Cafe by Heather Horrocks. The short story was filled with magic, finding your family, and a little bit of romance. My only complaint: I want more! I am crossing my fingers that this novella is the start to a new series. I want to get to know these girls and find out what is going on in their new town.

Oh the love!

Each story had an interesting take on love potions. Some were cute, some were interesting and some made me want to dig into more of the books that these short stories were from.

Some were great stories some so so

When writing s short story, you are on a balancing act of drawing the reader into your established world but not having enough time to explain. If you've got a good storyline, it won't matter.

This is a collection of paranormal cozy short stories for your reading enjoyment! Below is a review of one of the books as an example of what is included in this delightful set.

>>> Reviewing “SHOT TO SPELL” by ReGina Welling & Erin Lynn <<<
Lexi Balefire, half goddess and half matchmaking witch – and in fact, Cupid’s daughter – was dreading the upcoming holiday, Valentine’s Day. To show her lack of enthusiasm, she was dressed all in black. When her four faeire godmothers made heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast, she turned up her nose and left to get something else. She stopped at a coffee shop and saw the woman who was fated for her Cupid’s arrow, since she was filling in for “Dad” temporarily. She took aim with the Bow of Destiny and let it loose. Unfortunately, the arrow, which normally passes through everything harmlessly, hit and broke a vial that the woman – a witch – was carrying. As luck would have it, the vial was a love potion which affected everyone but the two witches! They spent the rest of the day fixing the chaotic mess! That night, Lexi vowed to spend every February 14 for the rest of her life in a cocoon to stay out of trouble!

Lexi got out of bed and went to the kitchen. Heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast, no thanks! Hmmm, she felt a sort of déjà vu? Much of the conversation with her godmothers and her cat seemed very familiar? Her entire walk into the city seemed exactly the same as the day before! Events seemed to be repeating. She headed into the coffee shop and saw Dahlia Breedlove again, with a pink heart fluttering over her head to indicate she was next fated to be shot with Cupid’s arrow. No, not this time! Instead, she left for her first matchmaking appointment of the day.

Lexi was arranging for two people to accidentally meet and fall in love. She had it perfectly planned, everything proceeding flawlessly. The woman would miss her bus (speed-up spell to make it move away from the stop quicker); Lexi’s client and the woman would hail a cab at the same time (slow-down spell when the cab would miss their hail). But instead of slowing the cab, the spell made it speed up and all three of them were drenched in icy cold dirty water splashed by the cab. The woman blamed Lexi’s client, and the day was ruined.

Lexi woke up the next day and, recognizing her day was repeating, she didn’t get out of bed. Who would curse her like this? Her cat “familiar” came up to tell her to get up and meet her clients, but she chased him away by threatening to bring home a puppy… and she went back to sleep.

The following day, she woke and raced through the kitchen before any of the conversation could repeat. But all the events repeated as she walked to town. She ran past the coffee shop – coffee at the office would be fine. Pink hearts popped up over many heads, but she ignored them. At the office, she walked back to the salon where her business partner Flix was cutting hair at high speed. He explained that he was overbooked and had a line of clients waiting for hair appointments. Lexi said she would help since, as a witch, she could glamour the client into something beautiful. But instead, Mona’s hair became a purple Mohawk with neon green tips!!! Trying to fix it, a big chunk of hair disappeared! She went home before she caused another disaster!

The next day started over like all the others in this continual loop. She thought about how she had been so angry about the negative things in her life. And she let that anger control her bad mood. This time she put on a red sweater rather than dressing in black. She joyfully exclaimed at seeing the pancakes, her favorite. She walked downtown and smiled at everyone, eager to meet her clients and help them find someone special. She shot arrows at Dahlia and a man with matching hearts, and knew they would discover they were soul mates. This time the timing was perfect for her cab riders and she knew they would have an exciting meet-up story to tell for years after.

One more stop… she entered the salon to see Flix and got the biggest surprise of ALL!!!!

You will definitely love this compilation of awesome stories! Don’t miss out! They are all amazing!!!

Hexes and Ohs: A set of Short Cozy Mysteries by various authors; all concerning love and/or Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, these are all about different series, so may confuse some readers who don't know anything about the series and some stories do have spoilers. They're interesting on their own, since I haven't read any other books by these authors. All the books have overviews giving a head's up about the shorts, which I appreciate. This set is a fun way to spend a little or lot of time reading, curled up with a cuppa. No cliffhangers, since that's a problem with boxed sets many times.

M. Z. Andrews, Witch, Please! - . It's well written, with funny, interesting characters and a fun plot. This short should be read after Witch School Dropout, spoilers alert. My first book by this author; Witch Squad.

Nova Nelson, Witcheroo - It's well written, with interesting characters, human and familiar. My first book by this author; Witches of Salem.

Ani Gonzalez, The Mystery of the Magic Bottle - Well written with interesting characters and the Shop and Bubo are different. My first book by this author; Banshee Creek.

Joynell Schultz, The Mail Order Witch - A new twist on a witch's tale, which makes for a cute, little, intriguing romance.

ReGina Welling & Erin Lynn, Shot to Spell - In the style of Groundhog Day, but with cupid. A funny, cute story with all kinds of happenings. My first book by these authors; Fate Weaver and Psychic Seasons.

Ava Mallory, Mistaken - Interesting character Granny, but the story didn't make any sense with Antonio or the Whisperers' lack of communications skills; so no explanations about anything - must know the series to understand? I didn't care for this book. My first and probably last book by this author; Missy Rae Mysteries.

Heather Horrocks, The Hungry Cat Cafe - A really funny, interesting story that adds a heartwarming element to it. The characters are new to each other, but they work well together. The dialog is realistic and the plot is intriguing. I want to read more of this author's work, especially The Hungry Cat Cafe series.

Danielle Garrett, Cupid in a Bottle - A cute, little story with funny characters and an intriguing happening.

Ruby Blaylock, Spells Like Teen Spirit - A well written, funny, interesting story with another view of witches working on fixing a teen's booboo. My first book by this author; Suburban Witches.

This was a cute anthology. I read The Mail-Order Witch, Shot to Spell, and Mistaken. I will likely read more in the future. Thank you to Ms. Schultz for providing an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Mail-Order Witch: I thought this one was cute. While at first I was angry at Ettie's actions, I'm glad she came to her senses, and everything worked out in the end. A good addition to Joynell Schultz's books.

Shot to Spell: This was an addition to the Lexi Balefire series, which I have read book 1 of. There were a few minor spoilers, but nothing I hadn't seen coming in book 1, so this novella wasn't spoiler-central or something. I thought it was okay, although I wouldn't have minded some explanation as to who was causing Lexi to repeat Valentine's Day. Not the why, just the who.

Mistaken: I was confused by this one, not having read anything else by the author. I didn't really like it, as I didn't know who these characters were or why I should care about them. There wasn't much of an explanation as to why Jake was reincarnated (as she was in a picture from forty years ago, and Anthony's soulmate) and I thought that was a rather important loose end.

All in all, this was a cute collection of Valentine's Day themed witch stories, with some better than others. 4 stars.

I had a few issues at the beginning and wasn't sure I was going to like the book. I eventually got into the book. Something about the main character rubbed me the wrong was at the start. There was too much effort in trying to make one of townsfolk into a 'Character' with a capital C that I totally ended up disliking that character a great deal. But eventually I really liked the book and want to know what happens next.

One point I totally disagree with is the town saying that if she is going to run the marathon, as in organize it, then she must run in it. That is a bad idea because if any problems arise during the event, the person running it is not available to deal with the problems. While not a major problem with the overall story, I think it is a fairly large technical issue. It just isn't believable.

My main problem with the book is that it doesn't really feel like anything is resolved. The individual books in a series still need to have a beginning, middle, and end. This book feels less like a complete book and more like a set up for the next book in which the real story is told. This is actually what cost the book a star. It is possible it should cost two starts but by the end I did get into it enough to really like it. I think it earned that one star back by making me really want to get to the next book.

A great collection!!! Here are the ones I have read so far.

Alchemic Love Cate Lawley - I love her The Goodewitch Matchmaker series so getting to read about Glenda and Bedivere was so good. Glenda is a matchmaker but will she end up matching herself this time?

The Mystery of the Magic Bottle Ani Gonzalez - Love her Banshee Creek series. Dora has a magical shop and packages of bottles show up. Bubo the cat is still his crazy self and we get to find out "who" Thomas really is. Lots of questions answered.

The Mail-Order Witch Joynell Schultz - Great twist on mail order brides. Ettie is a pure blooded witch looking for a pure blooded warlock but Roman has secrets.

Shot to Spell ReGina Welling & Erin Lynn - A ground hog day but on Valentine's Day. cute

Mistaken Ava Mallory - Can an old photograph cause a love match to be made? pretty cute

The Hungry Cat Cafe Heather Horrocks- October has always know she was adopted but would have never guessed who her mom and family are. I really enjoyed this one and can't wait to read the rest in the series.

Order Received With Love
The Mail-Order Witch by Joynell Schultz is a cute novella in Hexes and Ohs. The author as always is an excellent character and story builder, this short story is no exception. I realized, as a reader that I always had a big smile on my face, with little happy noises escaping along the way. I couldn’t help it the story tugs at your heartstrings. The Mail-Order Witch is an uncomplicated romance quick read that leaves a lasting impression. What I liked the most is that there is no drama or grandiose romantic gestures, just two young people looking for love. I am glad to have read the novella and sample yet another joyful piece of writing by Joynell Schultz
My RECOMMENDATION: If you are a romantic or better yet sit on the fence, read The Mail-Order Witch. The author helps us realize that everyday romance can exist in many different ways. –Tex. P.S., This is one I will read again.

Still working my way through the set but so far my favourite is:

The Mystery of the Magic Bottle by Ani Gonzales.

We are back n Banshee Creek just in time for V Day! The Botanica is trying to stave off the invasion of all things pink, whilst the bakery is jumping head long into it. Dora is feeling unusually settled in the town, having been there for months. She is making friends and feels at home but she knows the shop could move at any time.

After a visit from a Fae gives her an uneasy feeling, hundreds of antique bottles turn up at the store. They are just what Kate was looking for at the Botanica but can Dora and a few of the PRoVE team protect a particular bottle from the Fae?

Dora (Aka Pandora, yes THAT one!) has a lot on her plate. Fae, endentured humans a shop that seems to manifest trouble and a daemon cat are a lot to deal with. I ,loved learning more about Dora and the Shoppe. I can't wait to see what happens next!

This is a review of The Mail-Order Witch by Joynell Schultz.
I have not yet read anything else by the other authors in this anthology but I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the stories in this collection. What drew me to this anthology was Joynell Schultz and the quality of her writing.
Joy's stories never fail to make me smile and this is a lovely example of what she is so good at. She always takes a fresh look at genres familiar to all of us and adds her own twist to create something completely new. Witches and Warlocks are dying out because their bloodlines are being diluted by muggles and this short story tells the tale of how a lonely witch does her duty and becomes a mail-order bride. Will she find happiness? You'll just have to read this and find out.

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.

5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.

Bought this book quite a while ago but I thought since it’s February it’s a good month to read this love potions gone wrong book. It is always difficult to rate a book with so many different stories and authors but in the whole this was a great read. Some of the stories just made laugh. Most of them about love potions gone wrong in a most hilarious way. Some of the stories felt unfinished. But I do not like cliff hangers. I feel the authors are trying to force us to buy the next book and I do not like that one bit. If the story is good we will buy the next book automatically no need to do the “if you want to know more look into the next book” thing. It’s underhanded, not honest. Still, a good book to read and have a few good laughs. Just be ready it is a thick heavy book!!

Such a cute collection of stories with all sorts of spells and magic. My two favorites were Cupid in a Bottle by Danielle Garrett and Alchemic Love by Cate Lawley. I laughed and had a wonderful time reading these stories. I liked the others, as well, and have found some new (to me) authors for my future reading pleasure. I recommend this book for anyone with a short amount of time and a hankering for some fun magical romance. The stories are long enough to be interesting and short enough to fit into a lunch break or a commute (if you are NOT driving). I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Two men vying for a woman’s attention. Perhaps a magical matchmaker can help? But when the spell goes awry and makes the two men fall in love…with each other. Oh, that’s just too, too funy.

A potion switches a man with a dog. Another spell gone awry.

These stories have a mixture of love and magic. Some were a little too “witchy” with fantasy objects and names that were just a tad too silly for my tastes. There was a woman that was half witch, half-Cupid with an inexplicable obsession with pancakes. “Hungry Cat Café” was all about cats and way too long. Most of these tales were far-fetched and unimpressive.
The best stories were “Witch, Please” and “Witcheroo.”

I'm smitten!

I'm hooked on the ReGina Welling antholgies. Very funny stories but with a touch of pathos, these very talented writers bring more than the same old flowers and chocolate (not that I mind either) to Valentine's Day. Snuggle up with your Valentine, human, canine or feline, avian, reptilian, well, you get the picture and enjoy the funny and serious side of this holiday.

This is a fun anthology full of stories of love, paranormals, magic and St. Valentine's day. I purchased the volume primarily for the story from Amanda Allen, Potions and Passions, since this was about Harper from the Mommy Cozy series that I follow...and it was on sale for $.99 at the time. Along the way, I also found several other paranormal stories that I really enjoyed, including but not limited to The Mail-Order Witch, and Lemonade & Love Potions.

This is just too much of the same. The first few stories were enjoyable, but then things just got repetitive. How many versions of love-spell-gone-wrong can you read before getting bored? For me, the answer is about half as many as are in this book. I did enjoy some, however, such as Ani Gonzalez's and Ruby Blaylock's. Perhaps a shorter volume next time? I gave up with three tales remaining. I might get back to them next Valentine's.

Cute book for Valentine's Day

If you're in the mood for so wrong light and fun, this is a great book. Most of the stories average about 4-5 chapters so you can get through several on a lunch break or before bed. All are about witches of one sort or another and are centered around Valentine's Day.

Fun and enjoyable collection

Really loved this book. Each story is memorable, well written with engaging characters. Introduced me to several new authors which is an added bonus. Please keep these collections coming (loved Spells and Jingle Bells also); this is a lovely way to escape for a short while and also to find new series to read.

Such fun. I loved these stories! Ani Gonzalez (The Mystery of the Magic Bottle) never disappoints; I love the way she sneaks in mythological characters in a new and original way.

The writing in all of the stories was excellent; I highly recommend this collection - it's just plain fun! I rec'd a copy in exchange for an honest review.
