THE BLUEBLOOD

Heir to sixteenth-century Venetian nobility, Reynaldo Moroseni was born into luxury. Position. And power. His mortal days were spent on family business - the acquisition of wealth. Practicing his swordsmanship. Occasionally defending honor. But mostly, he spent each day in the pursuit of enjoyment. Vampirism didn't change much.

It merely gave him unlimited time. And a much larger field.

A RENAISSANCE WOMAN

Simone Ryan is a woman of many talents. She's versatile. Dexterous. Competent. Playing music is a joy, but employment as an art historian is her dream. Reality is night work for a chemical company. Living day-to-day. Making ends meet. Watching life pass her by. This was not what she'd envisioned for the future.

It wasn't even close.

MUSIC FOR THE SOUL

A gig playing cello somehow turns into a fantasy for one. Simone finds herself in her own personal fairytale. Set in a beautiful palace. With a breathtakingly handsome prince. This prince is old-worldly charming. Exciting. Passionate. His words intrigue. His touch ignites. And every moment gets her deeper into a shiver-inducing maze of sensuality. Because this prince has a dark side...

And he wants her.

Jackie Ivie

Jackie Ivie was born and raised in a suburb outside Utah's capital, beautiful Salt Lake City. The second in a family of four daughters and one son, Jackie was constantly amusing her siblings with her invented games, escapades, and stories. And she was always reading. She would even walk the family dog, with one hand holding the leash, while the other held the ever-present book. No subject went unread, but once she discovered Historical Romances, there was no doubting her favorite genre.

Jackie has always been the busy type, rarely sitting still without being occupied in at least one activity, and usually more. When she was younger, it was nothing to find her watching television, while doing her homework, listening to music, crocheting like a madwoman, and reading, all at the same time.

After graduating, Jackie gained secure employment with a large service company and relocated with her growing family to the neighboring, sparsely-populated state of Wyoming. She then spent several years enjoying the wildlife, scenery, and open space that Wyoming is known for. In addition to writing, Jackie is an accomplished artist in several mediums, preferring mixed media. She has several pictures in print and has exhibited in art showings throughout the West. There was never anything she loved doing more than reading, however, and once she discovered the thrill involved with putting her own words and fantasies on paper there was no stopping her.

In 2001, Jackie and her family took a huge step and moved to the largest state of the nation; Alaska. Although it was her job that brought her here, Jackie has grown to love this land of amazing contrasts, breathtaking vistas, and the ever-present resident, the Alaskan moose. There's nothing else like it, and the very long days of summer lend themselves to hours and hours of energizing tasks, while the long winter nights are just right for her real love...writing.

Jackie has now written thirteen novels and is continually starting more. The thrill of writing has now been enhanced by seeing her actual story in print. Lady of the Knight is her first published work. It will be followed by Tender is the Knight scheduled for release this summer.

This edition to the Vampire Assassin League books felt sweeter and tamer than the past few.

Reynaldo is a ladies man and accustomed to power and wealth. Yet, all the possessions he owns become meaningless when he finds his mate.

Simone is smart, educated, and loves art and music. Yet, life seems to be moving on without her. Then, somehow, she finds herself in a palace of pure opulence with amazing art and the owner is taking her breath away! The more she's around him, the greater the pull toward him. Will she ever return to her old life?

I liked Reynaldo. I liked his effort at honesty and his confessions. Simone seems like the perfect match for him.

All in all there's surprising little conflict, but it didn't stop me from enjoying it.

Romance - steamy PG13. It's open door, but not graphic.
Language - a couple of words push this to the R category.
Violence - reference only
My rating - 5 stars.

Despite this being part of a long running series, this can be enjoyed as a stand-alone. It is common for a series to go stale or be formalistic after so many stories, but this one proves that the VAL series still has unique stories to be told. There is a lot of humor and steamy romance to be found in this vampire story. The author provides rich descriptions that make you feel like you are right there. There is less action than found in other stories in the series, but that just offers readers a delightful change of pace. All the elements for a wonderful fairytale ending are present, but will the heroine accept it or not? This is a romance, of course she does! If you have never read a VAL story, I recommend this one, unless you prefer more action with your romance.

Confession I love Jackie's book actually I may be addicted. This is a long running series but each book can be read alone. Once again Jackie has conjured great characters that you want to read. Reynaldo was a rich man before he became a vampire who loved women ,finery and everything that came with it. Now he is a rich vampire with the finest things but he's bored until he finds his mate.
Simone is a cellist who loves art and history. When she finds herself requested to play for a handsome man at his home she is blown away by the beautiful art work and the man himself.
When a man is prepared to do anything to make you happy how can you resist.
Fantastic characters, humour, beautiful descriptions and a lovely (If a little steamy) romance

Not as intense as others in the VAL series.

This had more romance than the many others I've read. You might say it was sweet. The one intriguing item in the plot was Akron's giving Nigel more responsibility when dealing with Reynaldo and his situation with Simone. I have to add that I enjoyed reading the interspercing of foreign slang and historical data.
