good for Kelly when she puts her engagement up on eBay……because that’s what she does when she hears that Alekos is getting married…not to her but to some skinny and bonny woman…...
“You said that this happens when you keep men at a distance for too many years. How long actually is it since you last had sex?”
Distracted, Kelly racked her brains. “I think it was about four years ago. Just after – it was part of my Alekos rehabilitation-programme.”
“I gather it didn’t work?”
Kelly took slow, deep breathes trying to calm herself so that she could think clearly. “Have you ever had a relationship where you just can’t help yourself? You know it isn’t good for you, you know there is going to be agony at the end of it, but something between you is so powerful it just draws you together?”
“No. But my sister-in-law is an alcoholic and that description sounds uncannily close to how she feels about a bottle of vodka.”
“I don’t find that analogy comforting. If she went without vodka for four years, would she still feel like that?”
“Oh yes. She says the feeling never goes away. It’s just a question of not putting yourself near the vodka.”
“The vodka took me home and barged into my house.”
Vivien blinked. “This conversation is getting too complicated for me. But vodka sounds like a good idea. I have some somewhere, for emergencies.”
“And hospitality is so important to you Greeks, isn’t it? You’ll leave a girl standing alone on her wedding day, but if you turn up invited in her home four years later, you expect a cup of coffee and a slice of baklava.”
“Can we go on a gondola?”
“That’s for tourists.”
“I’m a tourist.”
“I’ll have to wear something baggy: my tummy is sticking out. It must be too much Greek food.”
Then he tells her that they will be staying at the Cipriani. Her reaction is so natural and cute…
“”The Cipriani?” I’ve heard of that”, Kelly squeaked.
“Wow. Lots of famous people stay there: George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Alekos Zagorakis…”
“And Kelly,” Alekos finished, and she gave a weak smile.
“And Kelly. I just hope George Clooney doesn’t feel upstaged by me being there. Poor him. He doesn’t stand a chance, does he?”

'What do you think, Alekos?' It was Takis who spoke, the elder of the group of bankers. "Will the expansion have a negative effect on profits?'
'I think,' Alekos purred as he watched the young man reach out to touch Kelly's golden hair, 'that if Theo does not take his hand off my woman with the next two seconds I will look elsewhere for finance.'
The man froze and his hand dropped to his lap.
Alekos smiled. 'Good decision,' He switched to Greek, knowing Kelly wouldn't be able to follow the conversation. 'Touch her again and you will find yourself working at the supermarket checkout.'
You have to know that, just because the wrong thing may have come out of my mouth, doesn't mean the right thing isn't in my heart.

Anger was just another fuel to stoke a fire that was already white-hot.
I will never understand women.
Stick at it. You're a bright man; you'll get there eventually.
