“Get on all fours, princess.” I licked my lips. “That was only the beginning. I need you.” She blushed. “You need me?” “In my bed. In my studio. In my life. Yes. I need you.”
From Amazon Erotica Bestseller Kenya Wright comes a new standalone romance about a flawed billionaire and the innocent woman he can't leave alone.
Giovanni steals hearts with his music, raising him to the top of Blue-Eyed Soul, and subsequently giving him a playboy reputation. But when his best friend and songwriter's life ends abruptly through overdose, Giovanni finds himself lost and broken.
His search for a new songwriter leads him to Simone, an up-and-coming songstress chasing after her dreams of stardom. She’s perfect. Her lyrics deliver heat to his body. Her voice strums at his heartstrings, playing him like an instrument until he loses control. He’s convinced he’s found more than a partner in music. Simone could be his partner in forever. However, Simone is focused and not ready to get into bed with a man known for breaking hearts.
Can Giovanni show her the power of their love, or will their passion play out only through their music?
Kenya Wright wrote her first novel during her third year at UM Law school. She dropped out a month after the release and never looked back.
Words are power, and Kenya wants to be the greatest wizard that ever lived.
It's an audacity to inspire and teach the healing of love through arousal.
It's this crazy idea that love can not only help a reader escape, but the story can also teach the person about being human, while making them laugh, cry, and hot for more sex.
I'm sorry but I was so disappointed. A 2.5 for me. Normally I love everything Kenya Wright has written but this one really did not do it for me. The first half was like listening to two horny teenagers talk on the phone. And Simone's songs were like a teenage girls diary written about her crush. I was not into it. There was no build up, they were just instantly in lust with each other. Simone was so immature, and had bad decision making. Everything went out of her head when she found out Gio wanted to work with her in person, nothing else mattered including her own safety and the job she went there to do. Gio was controlling to the point of weird. And the whole manager thing...I'm sorry I really tried to enjoy it.
I fucking LOVE Kenya Wright! She's everything that's good about the IR genre, but I couldn't force myself to finish this.
The parts of the novel I read were either uncomfortable, unrealistic, or just straight-up cringy.
Uncomfortable: - Him masturbating in front of her because he had a sex dream about her - Her masturbating in front of him because she had a sex dream about him - Her giving up her panties for him after a few days - unprotected sex of course * Let me be clear. I understand. If my favorite, attractive male artist was throwing it at me, I wouldn’t be a nun, but you need to adorn that chastity belt when business is involved. - Their not phone sex sessions, that consisted of her moaning and him breathing heavy - Her treatment of Ru once she got with Gio
Annoying: - All the name dropping was irritating - Grammar - The lack of research to properly portray the music industry - Simone’s hair washing scene...it wasn’t annoying just unrealistic
Cringy: - Simone's songs read like an adult version of Tina's Erotic Friend Fiction.
- Instalovin' and lustin' was severe - The “sexy” dialogue was just...no - The vibe was off
This is the second book I've read by this author and I was not disappointed. The incident Simone encountered with Ru is so relatable. I really enjoyed Giovanni and Simone's journey.
I'm usually hesitant when it comes to books about musicians but I did not hesitate when it came to Kenya Wright! This book was so hot! This book has sensuality, humor, and everything you'd want. Amazing read!
Once again Kenya Wright doesn't disappoint. When you read Kenya's books you're always going to get a sizzling story with an engaging couple at the helm. Love her books.
So I typically love all of Kenya Wright's works but this one? Not it. The bones for a good romance were there but were suffocated by the tragic "insta-love" and underdeveloped character backstories. The romantic leads acted like they had never worked with someone attractive before. Simone was supposed to be this musical genius with grit and hustle, and yet she was under Gio in less than 4 days even though they were supposed to be writing music together? They didn't even make it to the studio to actually work until past the 75% mark. And the lyrics that she gave him? They were so incredibly juvenile that I was confused as to why she was anything special. None of this was realistic or believeable. They end up having raw sex multiple times within the first week of meeting each other and I'm scratching my head. Um, as a woman in the music industry that IS NOT how you'd behave if you wanted to be taken seriously. At all.
And then Gio's actions were hair-raising too: staying completely secluded in Utah, becoming a hornball by the sound of someone's voice even though he's been in the music game for years, almost instantly becoming possessive of Simone before knowing anything about her, jeopardizing her career because he 'loves' her 4 days after meeting her and wants to 'keep' her? Gio alludes to essentially wanting to impregnate her to trap her. He sounds like a clingy and covetous older dude that puts Simone's dreams on the backburner. Then there's this gem --> “I’m fine. She’s fine. I didn’t kidnap her.” “Why hasn’t she answered her phone? Ru said he’s been calling all day.” I smiled. “I took her phone and turned it off. " Then he calls Ru 'rapey' like HE ISN'T DOING THE SAME THING that Ru would do? No bueno.
I'm usually all for alpha-males but this was skeevy and not what I expected from Kenya. Gio's alpha ways read more like emotional/physical manipulation. Ah well, not every book is going to be my cup of tea. Good luck, can't recommend.
I have read several books by this author before, but this story is by far the best and my favorite from her. Music brought them together, but their chemistry and connection bonded them. Gio and Simone were fascinated, intrigued, and attracted to each other before they even met in person. Their physical encounter ignited and highlighted emotions and feelings that were foreign to them. Did it move fast? Yes and no. Yes, only because they had been in each other's presence for a few days, and no, because they had communicated with each other for awhile before finally meeting. Plus, you can't ignore the heart when it has spoken. Ru was doing entirely too much for a manager, and then, we learned the underlying truth. Ru tried to ruin Simone, but she was a strong woman. With Gio's love and support, her faith and trust with humanity could be restored with a side of caution.
This story featured some great characters with a well developed story. I appreciated the character development as well as the progression of the story. Even though it was insta-love, the story itself was not rushed at all. I admit that I was not keen on reading anything else from this author after reading some of her previous books. I tried to get into them but I couldn't. A friend recommend this book, and I trust her judgment. I am so glad that I listened to her and changed my mind to read this story. It was different, wasn't too dark or too out there, and was filled with love, romance, music, passion, and even a some pain. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and would happily recommend it to others. After reading this story, I will be willing to read more from this author again.
For a story like this to be a five-star, it has to be well-researched, carefully laid out, and contain strong characters driven by a logical plot (with great steamy scenes).
The lack of proofreading was evident, and distracting. Throughout, I had to keep rereading sentences to discern meaning ( and change a word, mentally). Similarly, researchable inconsistencies detracted from its overall believability.
The star and the upcoming star is a great trope, and these two had potential. It strayed into "street garbage" a little, with the slang and youth-culture concepts putting it in a more urban niche. Missed opportunities for deepening characters abound, substituted instead for marginally gratuitous, slightly repetitive, steamy scenes.
This isn't a negative review, and I will read more work by this author...I think they need to be more careful with their texts in future.
This was a sweet but mediocre read. If you've read Power or No Ordinary Love, you know what I mean. The ebb and flow of this book was not what you would expect of Kenya Wright. It was too neat. Too tidy. And not as succinct. This book read as if it was following a formula script if you will. I don't think this was her penmanship at all. I think, as a few other authors are doing, that she lent her name to an unknown author. The chemistry of the H/h was awesome, but the story-line was too "scripted".
Chemistry: 4 Plot: 2 Character Development: 3 Story Flow: 1 Love Scenes: 3 Editing/Grammatical Errors: 4
I enjoyed "Gio." The premise was great. I loved Simone and Gio, the phone contact thst first had Gio intrigued with her, tge dramatic furst meeting, and then Gio not wanting Simone out of his sight or his bed! I wished that the music aspect had been included a little more. I was not surprised that Ru ended up being a Rhohypnol wielding pervy perv!
This is my first Kenya Wright read and my first ever review. She went for it right out the gate and I’m sharing this book with my next boyfriend. Gio has raised the bar! Lol
This was a good story, but the ending felt a tad rushed. Sexy beginning, love the main characters, but not much to the storyline since it was a case of love at first sight.
Kenya Wright is growing on me. Totally loved this story. I'm always a big fan of books where I can read the thoughts of both male and female so this was a win win for me. I look forward to read more of Ms. Wright's books
Superstar Giovanni (Gio) Ferraro, looking for a new songwriter to make a new album, found a person he was finally excited about making music with and could excite him with just her voice. Simone was so excited and so anxious to work with Gio that she flew to Salt Lake City on Christmas Eve to get started. After a memorable introduction Gio believe he found more in Simone than just a songwriter. Simone was instantly attracted to Gio as well and yet she wanted to make her mark as a songwriter. Can Gio, who have a reputation as a player persuade Simone to step out on faith and take a chance? Although the plot of the story is not very original what I love was how this story was executed. It was a page turner from the first page to the last. The story was told very realistically. Gio was a very intuitive character that reminded me of my husband in how he express his love for Simone by treating her like a princess and respecting her enough as a person to be independent even when they disagree of how to resolve problems. Simone’s character was very independent and ambitious and yet in many ways she was innocent and naive. I like how this story teaches the importance of listening to your instincts and how even when bad things happen how you work together as a couple to make a relationship stronger. This story will definitely become a favorite of mine and I will enjoy reading it again.
Okay I am some what a fan of instant love, but I'm a believer of instant attraction.I liked this story on all levels but at some point I was waiting for them to at least sing together.I wanted a little more of the chase and just a little more of a well rounded relationship. Also I felt the ending was a little rushed,it I wanted to cat least hear how the album was and their life together. This was a good and sexy story I just felt a little let down .
I loved Gio and Simone. Midnight was too funny. Ru was just... I have no words but unfortunately people like him exit in the world. I like how Gio let her be her own woman. He was all alpha but respectful of her at the same time. This is my first book by Kenya Wright and I am more than impressed.
This story was pretty good. It was different from her other books and I liked that. I liked the show biz aspect and how it related to things that are currently happening. All in all it was good.
I Love it Kenya you didn't again. I loved Gio and Simone chemistry in the book but that Ru was a hot mess. I'm happy things worked out for Gio and Simone I would love for they're story to continue.
This book was straight fire. It wasn’t cliche and it had my attention the entire time, Gio ad Simone healed each other and was compatible. This is why the book was good the plot, the characters and even the setting.
Ru wasn't liking that Simone wanted Gio instead him. Now that is some crazy stuff. Didn't know Ru would take such volatile action to make Simone are him in a different light.
Loved Gio!! He was true to himself and once he found Simone, he was loving, sexy as hell, and craved being loved in return. Simone, Lawd have mercy, was so naive! I really couldn't relate to her, but she and Gio together were fire!! Good book!
The sexiness chemistry between Gio and Simone was so hot. The lyrics to the songs they were singing to each other had wanting a cold glass of water. This book was so good. Looking forward to reading more books from you.
Ms. Wright, I am always blown away by your work. I laughed, cried and celebrated with Simone and Gio. Thank you for your words they made an otherwise dreary day fun! Keep writing and I'll keep reading
I’m not saying this was a bad book, but I’m not saying that this is something to talk in depth about.
This is a very fast paced love story, and I did think that the Trumatic experience she went through was it needed. Like it didn’t add any depth to the story I just made the resolution more intense.
Although this is an a definite, yes, for a re-read for me. I will still be looking for a Reads from this offer because I didn’t love her first book I read, which is Dima.
Wow! Another amazing book by Kenya Wright. Love, drama, and music all rolled into one in this steamy romance. My kindle caught on 🔥 with all the dirty talk and steamy scenes. Loved it!!!!
