Barry Faulkner was born into a family of South London petty criminals who ran with the Richardson's Crime Gang in the 60's-90's. Being the youngest his mother, a top fashion model, was determined he would not follow in the criminal footsteps of the rest of the family and enrolled him into the Morely Academy of Dramatic Art to pursue a career in acting. Sadly young Faulkner was asked to leave after three months when no acting ability had surfaced. He went onto become an advertising copywriter with the English branch of the US Agency Erwin Wasey Ruffraf and Ryan where he got lucky with some scripts he sent to the BBC TV and became a scriptwriter and editor for them and several ITV companies. During this time the DCS Palmer plots were amassed in various notebooks and three years ago Faulkner finally found time to write and publish them. His early insight into the criminal world of his family has added authenticity to the characters and plots that makes them credible and the pace keeps the reader glued to the end. His signature end twist will always surprise you. Check out his top rated crime blog at geezers2016.wordpress.com.
In this fourth series, DCS Palmer and his team are faced with their most difficult case yet. A disgruntled scientist is using his knowledge for blackmail. Having already proved it works, he is threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction to kill an enormous amount of London’s population unless he receives millions of pounds. The race is on to find out who he is and how to stop him before any more innocents die.
Each time I read another book in this series, I marvel at the scenarios the author comes up with! Believable crimes, always that little bit different have me hooked and I’m in awe of how the team get to the crux of the matter. As always, there is humour sprinkled among serious crime which makes this series to very enjoyable. I’m working my way through it, loving each one more than the last. If you haven’t given this author a try, then please do – he’s very entertaining! A joy to read, one I heartily recommend and definitely commanding all five shiny stars!
You’re always guaranteed an exciting, fast-paced investigation from DCS Justin Palmer and the Serial Crime Squad. This time, it’s a series of strange deaths. People are dying for no apparent cause. The only signs are a trickle of blood from one ear and brain damage.
While the team try to make sense of the deaths, the killer contacts the mayor of London with a massive ransom demand. Unless paid, a lot more of the capital’s citizens will meet the same grizzly end. With the stakes going through the roof, it’s a race against time to identify the killer and stop him carrying out his threat.
More is definitely less with these stories, which get straight to the heart of the action and don’t let up. Best of all, the crimes and investigations are always imaginative and a little different, while retaining the dark humour and interplay between the central characters.
Again, a clever little whodunit with an interesting weapon of choice for the murderer but scattered with errors. I really want to like this series but it's really doing my head in
