Srinivasa Iyer Ramaswamy called as Cho Ramaswamy (Tamil: சோ ராமசுவாமி) is a comedian, editor, political satirist, playwright and lawyer in Tamil Nadu. He is the founder and editor of the Tamil magazine, Thuglak. His popularity in the Tamil Nadu literary circles is mainly due to his impartial assessment of political issues, and the audacity with which he publishes his viewpoints.
Cho Ramaswami has done an immense help for the Tamil audience. This is a book of great erudition. While the focus is on Valmiki there is also comparison with Kambar and Tulsidas on important events.
Very well written. I love the way he explains how differently each event in Ramayana has been described in the three main versions, at the end of every chapter. I got to know that some common sayings involving Ramayana were taken from later adaptations. Thus, this book serves the purpose of letting the reader know how the tales of Ramayana have evolved with time. However, there is bias in writing to a certain extent
Does a good job of summarising the epic and very comprehensive, taking into account other versions of the epic and additions but there is a very clear bias in the writing.
